Why do ADC's have no choice in summoner spells?

Elewd··3 votes·1,470 views

Like foreal, the last time summone spells were a choice for adc's was in season 3 when you would pick between Ignite heal barrier or cleanse depending on matchups. Now its "pick heal every time" Toplaners can pick between ignite and tp and maybe ghost/exhaust Midlaners can pick between ignite tp exhaust and heal. Junglers can upgrade smite to do 4 different things depending on the match and how you play so it feels like 4 different spells. Supports can go exhaust or ignite depending on how they wanna play. why do adc's only get heal?

Technically you can pick whatever you wan't. What you are refering to is a meta. Meta is made by players by using the game mechanics, environment and set rules to find the best possible outcome. In league of legends it's to win. ADCs take heal and flash because it is the optimall setup in their case. You are squishy and ussually with limited escape and/or engage. So heal for squishiness and sustain in lane, and flash for escape or engage. That is why we say that heal and flash are ADC meta spells.

Correct.

I think OP is asking why those are pretty much the only two viable options. As in "why do we have no choice if we want to win" lol.

SrbLud1 votes

They are the only two viable because they buff up your weaknesses. You could run barrier to buff your all ins instead of heal sustain. You could use cleanse to to clear cc faster. Any spell buffs something if you are ready to trade that heal that makes you less squishy. Maybe you wan't to play an all in ADC, maybe you wanna lane safe. But allways equip summoners acordingly.

Flash and Heal keep an ADC alive, which is usually what you want.

They don't ONLY get heal.

Also Barrier ouscales heal for Burst Damage...but isn't used as Much...if they gave Barrier a 50% shield Amount to closest lowest health ally and Boom viable for heavy AOE comps.

Fondling Gems1 votes

Really just a 10-30 sec reduction to barrier would be all the buff it needs. Still wouldn't show up bot much as heal effects 2 people and there are 2 people bot lane. Also damage is sustain rather than burst.

Heal is most important summoner spell in the botlane

If they do what you suggested we ll have heal 2.0 outclass or outclassed

Sometimes I go with heals as support because of the windspeaker blessing mastery affecting it, allowing the adc to take something else. Which means that the ADC gets to choose who to exhaust/ignite while you're dependent of the support to heal... As always.

SrbLud2 votes

Instead of running windspeaker to boost heal summoner to sustain the ADC a bit longer ( maybe 10-15 times in the whole game at best) , you could run exhaust... You combine the exhaust with the ADCs opressor tier 2 keystone. You give your ADC a slow target he can kite easily while doing more damage with their oppressor bonus damage proced. Your ADC has more kill potentiall....a lot more...like 10-15 more potentionall kills... Windspeaker is great for supps that have heals in their kits so you can use it more.

JayHog19921 votes

Pretty much, but if the support doesn't take windsblessing, then I use exhaust instead... Or ignite if I'm an agressive support like Annie.

SrbLud1 votes

Basically yes. If you are running a kill comp bot lane you take ignite to melt them fast. If you are running a sustain support you take windsblessing keystone to buff your kit heals and exhaust to proc opressor. If you are running a poke lane comp ( zyra suport ) take damage keystones and either exhaust or ignite.

The flip side of the Support having heal is it makes the healing the ADC gets from it immune to Grievous Wounds, since that only applies to self healing.

SrbLud1 votes

Grievous wounds immunity doesn't apply since 4.something

ModWulf Helhammer2 votes

They changed grevious wounds at the end of last season to only affect self healing

SrbLud1 votes

So my theory on heal better on ADC is even stronger

DrCyanide2 votes

What? No.

If the ADC is attacked by anyone who has item 3123 item 3033 item 3165 (or who an ability that causes grievous wounds) it makes Heal less useful on the ADC. The ADC gets more health back if the Support uses Heal instead.

SrbLud1 votes

Ok let's say your supp takes heal... While in early game ( laning fase ) you will allmost guaranteed never encounter grievous wounds...you take heal as ADC so if caught alone you got sustain... Mid game maybe you encounter grievous wounds but you will allready group and have your front line to soak up... late game everyone can burst everyone if on even grounds... and still grouped... with that heal making little to no difference on anyone except you....

So heal on your supp cause of grievous wounds leaves you with: No sustain if caught alone early Midgame you don't need it as you group. And late game it makes little difference as everyone is on their full builds and can burst eachother...and still grouped. Now i might be wrong on this but i rarely see grievous wounds in that short span where it can make a difference...

windspeaker + heal gives bonus resistance to everyone who got healed.

i can't explain again so here's the quote of mine from a coupple comments up:

You combine the exhaust with the ADCs opressor tier 2 keystone. You give your ADC a slow target he can kite easily while doing more damage with their oppressor bonus damage proced. Why it should be on ADCs... well i assume you already read the one you commented on.

Heal on ADC and exhaust or ignite on SUPP are a strong estabilished meta to the point it became the only viable option. Try changing it in ranked and every single person will question you and maybe even call you a troll.

Ultimately i defend the right to run whatever you want, but the meta is allways dictated by players finding optimall ways to win.

Now if you guys don't mind this is going nowhere as so i'll leave this board. Have a good day. item 2052

Heal on windspeaker support had been a very common choice when the adc tend to group and siege instead of solo push, it is not the most common use but it is definitely viable with the meta right now. Only lower ranks where people have no idea how the game works will question a reasonable summoner spell choice like this one.

Because it's vitality and mobility in one summoner spell, instead of having to choose between them.

Rebonack1 votes

Because Flash strangles all creativity due to being leagues more powerful than all other options.

Still needs to be split into two summoners, one for displacement and one for wall-hopping.

TheJinxedOne1 votes

because people are sheep that refuse to just pick what they want to.

summoner 12 summoner 6 and get flamed for taking this until they go 8/0 in a lane that they are never not present in.

Ignite heal barrier or cleanse

If you know why supports are usually the one taking ignite (it's still not common, though), then you'll know why the ADC doesn't.

Cleanse is generally considered weak(?) and QSS is considered a more valuable buy.

And barrier... well, that's asking to solo lane. Heal is the duo lane spell, and taking barrier is kind of rude to some of us support players. You got to have our back too.

Elewd1 votes

this thread is more akin to the fact that over the seasons adc summoners has shifted from having a choice depending on situations to "just take this every game" a support player still has the choice of ignite or exhaust depending on how they want to play the lane. Tbh i kind of just want cleanse and barrier to get buffed a bit so they actually feel useful or like they are an actual choice to pick as an adc. if you get offended by an adc taking barrier then you may have some problems.
