Why League of Legends is king.
League of Legends = ARTS All others = MOBA
ARTS > MOBA
League of Legends = ARTS All others = MOBA
ARTS > MOBA
?
League of Legends lacks the conventional game play elements of a traditional moba like DotA and DotA2.
Because of this, League of Legends is considered an ARTS (by it's developers, RIOT and game reviewers) game with moba features.
First: what the hell is an ARTS? I've heard of RTS, like Starcraft, Age of Empires, and the original Warcraft game.
Second: how in the world does this game not have traditional MOBA elements?
A = action
When asked what the purest form of a MOBA is, the answer is DotA and the runner up is DotA2. I'm too lazy to go into detail, but DotA2 and LoL are 2 different games 10 fold and 100 times over.
Everything is different on an execution scale from laning, ganking, team fights, champion roles, leveling, gold management, farm, creep deny, lane freezing... everything! If you try to play DotA2 the way you play League, you're going to get destroyed because DotA2 isn't an "action" game. It's a fine tuned strategy game and very fucking boring to play in comparison to LoL (my personal opinion).
League doesn't have the depth that DotA2 has, especially when it comes to each champion in DotA2 having very specific roles in team fights and laning phase. League has a lot more breathing room (flexibility) and more of a rush-down gameplay style. The LoL developers even mention this difference in their scaled down map size and quicker average match length.
In terms of action/reflexes/solo skill at one end of the spectrum and team strategy/synergy/calculated decisions at the other end, League of Legends sits perfectly balanced in the middle between SMITE and DotA2.
