To the people who play off-meta like Kog'Maw jungle

God speed men.

Seriously though, off-meta has this awful stigma that it's gonna fail. If you so much as hover something off-meta you can be flamed for it, even if you hover it in it's intended role (happened to me with Mordekaiser). Playing off-meta leads to you getting blamed for the entire team's failing, you could 8/0 on AP Miss Fortune Mid, but if the team losing, you will get reported. If you are someone who yells at these people who play off-meta, consider that many strong picks started out as off-meta champs or builds, such as.

-Varus mid -Urgot -Graves jungle -Nautilus support -Veigar (people were calling him trash tier one week then OP the next) -Brand support -AP Kog'Maw

I could go on.

So go forth, off-meta players! Go forth and innovate where no one has innovated before!

playing Kog in the jungle isn't "off-meta," it's blatantly retarded

These are all meta picks now and have been for a long time, off meta is AD malzahar jg (fucking fun) or Morgans mid

The fact that all of those champions (except AP MF mid) were meta at one point or another or is meta as of current.... are you ok OP?

There is a difference between off meta viable picks and off meta trolling when it comes to ranked. If you lock in garen support or zyra jungle in ranked you better have some games in your match history proving it.

In norms its fine go test whatever off meta build you wish, that's how new metas are found trying things different. Just don't take your one off experiments into ranked unless you've got a PROVEN history of success with it.

A good example of off meta picks being troll would be the game I just dodged. A player requested the team first pick garen so he can take it as a support. His match history showed 2 garen top games. He has played garen two times out of nearly 90 ranked matches. Average statistics over the last 20 matches indicated a average of 1.8 kda per match and a 40% win rate over these 90 matches.

Knowing this information who wouldn't seriously question or be irritated at this player. He's running around ruining others play in a competitive environment by choosing a offmeta pick that has not been proven. Flaming isn't necessary however a dodge is and this is blatant trolling whether it is done through ignorance or intentionally .

I honestly believe at least in ranked games this behavior should be punished with ranked restriction. I mean all you have to do to automate checking it is reference the role they queued as and champion pick versus data from previous matches and if it's under a certain fitness threshold punish it. It could be done with a simple small script easily.

God knows I've innovated a few off-meta picks in my time (back in season 1 I played Evelynn before Sorakabot invented "Smite Revive jungle Eve" and did pretty well; I played Morgana support while all the other supports were playing Zyra and even made a large forum thread comparing the two, with everyone telling me "no, Zyra's just better"; and I played Support Shen to devastating effect from the start of 2015, before the buff that led the pros to bring it into the LCS; plus I still have a number of unique support picks that haven't taken off yet like Anivia and Orianna) so I can't really tell you to stick to the meta.

The problem is, any time someone says "trust me" I can't trust them. Because in my experience, when someone says "trust me" in a LoL lobby, they WILL betray your trust. Every. Single. Time.

Actually, 16% of all Kog'Maw players currently play him as a Mage. Anywho, Jungle Kog'Maw is love, Jungle Kog'Maw is life.
