I've been playing league for about three months now. I have around 350 wins in normals, and have improved rather quickly, at least according to my friends. I am considering starting ranked just to get a rank... Should I do it now, or wait for season 6 to start?
Also, what can I expect going into ranked for the first time?

I made a mistake and started ranked too early and now pay for it in the elo hell that is bronze... My recommendations are this;
the sooner you play ranked, the better. from every ranked match you will learn more han from a non-ranked so to get better, playing ranked is required.
Now's actually a good time to test the waters with ranked considering they reset ranks once the season starts.
As for what you can expect, pretty much just more of the same. People playing stupidly, feeding, raging, trolling, etc.
s6 starts in like 2 days, so just wait a little bit ^.^
S6 will start very soon, but the first couple weeks/month of the ranked season are hard. At the beginning of the season everyones rank gets reset and there are a lot of different skill levels mixed together. I belong in high silver/low gold, but last year I was struggling in silver V at the start of the season because of all the golds dumped into silver.
I would say just start now before it resets just so you get a base rank for your s6 placements to be based off of.
I would go ahead and play the 10 games to get ranked now (even though it'll be reset in less than a month). It will give you a chance to see how people can play differently in ranked sometimes. You'll be able to see what the popular bans are (if you haven't been playing draft mode).
I have also heard that your ranked MMR at the reset can determine your placement for next season, after you complete the 10 matches again..
Just don't play ranked.. ever.
