Deathfire Touch changes - more clarification please

The new patch states "Instances of Deathfire Touch are no longer overwritten by new instances that would expire sooner". What does this mean? Does deathfire touch now stack? Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

assume karthus takes deathfire touch karthus lands a Q (single target), applies deathfire touch for 4 seconds karthus deals damage with his E, applies deathfire touch for 2 seconds because E damaged more recently, the 2 second dft is applied and overwrites the 4 second.

instead, now the Q's dot will stay on provided it has more than 2 seconds remaining on its duration.

Deathfire Touch has three different potential durations. It can last for 4, 2, or 1 second. So if a 4-second duration DFT has 2 seconds left on it, it will not be overwritten by a 1-second duration DFT.

In most cases it will be good. What it should check for is how much damage will be dealt; it's very possible for a 1-second DFT to deal more damage than a 2-second DFT.
