I wish I could give up my turret while being hard camped.

Not a very old player by any means but even back in S8, as a top laner I could always surrender a turret instead of dying to a two man dive if it meant I would be giving away free kill gold and scale later into the game safely.

Nowadays - You recall and give up three plates and that's more gold than giving away a free kill.

Quite literally, turret plating has been by far the dumbest decision made by Riot and I believe it's a topic which should be spoken about more. Nothing kept the company from just giving towers extra flat resistances but hey, gotta make games shorter by allowing the lane with greater gank pressure to snowball harder.

The rationalization was that the turret plates would simply disincentive aggression if they didn't give gold. It has been a bad addition though because it makes early game picks stronger than they should be. The idea used to be that champions like Darius and Renek would quickly fall off if you didn't give them kills, but now they get that gold from plating anyways and maintain dominance.
