Do something about AFK/Leavers

Riot,

Everyone would agree with me that aside from toxicity, afk and leavers are next on the list that ruin other players' enjoyment of the game. We know how much effort you guys have put into curing toxicity and rewarding those who stay away from it. Don't you think it is time to really punish those who AFK or leave the game (rage quit or just even unintentional disconnect).

Every time I visit the Tribunal, it is always on recess. I recall visiting the Tribunal consistently in a day, and it was always on recess. So obviously nobody is using the report system anymore or the reports just aren't sufficient enough to put a player on Tribunal, even though said player has committed an offense like AFk.

I know there is a punk buster system that automatically gives out warning or even time ban when a player leaves a game too many times, but it is still not enough. It also doesn't solve players who intentionally AFK in game, that STAYS in game. Punk buster needs to be more strict.

To deal with AFK, I propose this. When a player is AFK in game, they will trigger a warning system after soandso time. Moving will cause the system to think they're not AFK. Then the system will spectate that specific player for attack and abilities casting on enemy targets. If none of these are registered, the system will warn the player that he/she is AFK. After soandso time, the player is put on an inactive status (invisible to players) and at the end of the game, the player will not earn IP/LP. Committing the AFK offense 3 times, and the player is banned from normal draft/ranked matches for a period (preferrably for months).

To deal with leavers, even players that disconnects. If 3/5 games a player is found to leave or disconnect from a game, they will be banned from joining ranked games for a period of time (preferably 3 days to 1 week). Committing this offense 3 times, the player will be permanently banned from playing normal draft/ranked games. Yes, even unintentional/accidental disconnect will put you on this list because honestly, if you are disconnecting 60% of your games, you probably should be put on a ban from joining ranked games for the meantime.

These two ideas doesn't make the system invulnerable to the many players who don't care about others enjoyment of the game, but it sure does strengthen the punish system and definitely encourage players not to commit these offenses. I know a lot of skilled players who are stuck at the bottom of the rank/tier because of AFK/leavers. Other players are put in ELO hell (earning less LP in wins and losing more in loss) because of afk/leavers. I even personally witnessed a player admit that he will not let another player win because that player is in his/her promo, said "have fun with your promo in chat" and left.

I propose this system to only work in normal draft and ranked matches because I think that there should one part of League of Legends that should be taken seriously and it should not only be ranked. There really only is two side of the game, casual and competitive. To keep competitive with more option, normal draft should also be competitive but without a big win/loss. Casual should just be casual and rules should be lighten in this aspect of the game, however, toxicity such as racism, homosexual harassment and religious insults should still be taken seriously.

Riot, it is time to put down the hammer and deal with these issues.

Yours truly, Eggtart Prince85

P.S - Please please please please, give an IQ test that a player must past with atleast a 120 IQ score in order to queue for normal draft and ranked matches. The test consists of decision making, MOBA logics, planning, timing, and priority targeting/killing.

Throwing people out isn't the answer. Sometimes it's the users issue, sometimes it's riots. I'd imagine in most cases people aren't leaving because they want to.

The solution to this problem is to limit the way it effects the players in the game. If leave buster tags you, then it should do two things:

  1. Reduce the LP loss based on the amount of inactive time. Therefore - someone who leaves 3 minutes before a loss gives you a slight reduction in LP loss. Someone who was never in the game almost negates your LP loss.

  2. It should remove that current game as being listed in any promo game. To prevent abuse, it wouldn't work with people who joined together.

Your AFK solution doesn't fix anything. Players will quickly learn what the system doesn't like and troll you by doing the absolute minimum. This is a vanilla toxicity problem and should be handled as such.

Riot already has a considerably stronger solution for leavers. Try leaving 60% of your matches for a week. I promise you won't just be banned from ranked games.

You spent a fair bit of time talking about elo hell being created by afk/leavers. It's not true. Statistically, if you don't leave games or afk, you will have fewer afk and leaver players on your team than on the other team over time. The higher the background leave rate, the easier it is to gain elo.

Reduce LP loss is not going to prevent people from leaving and afk, because they don't get a punishment. The key purpose to a punishment system is to prevent, not reimburse or compensate.

I did state that it is not an solution that will absolute keep people from AFK, because of course, people will outsmart the system eventually. But it does keep people from just being idle at all because there is a system in check. Not only that, but knowing that the system is in check at all times, will force people to stay alert and not just go afk carelessly.

I'm not sure about stats, but my I have had leavers/afk 5 times in a row just recently. Again, the key thing here is to prevent players from leaving a game. We don't want "you'll have fewer leavers because your leave rate is low". Riot should tackle the root of the problem and not just depend on other players to behave better, so they will eventually get the "good" games.

If these people don't want to take the competitive aspect seriously, then they shouldn't be allow to queue for it at all.
