Does riot purposely give us bad teammates when we're in our promos?

Literally i'm fine climbing through a division but once I get into my promo's, I get a 3/12 noctune jungle and a 1/7 gnar top lane with 131 cs by 37 minutes.

If you're in promo, you probably had a good win streak. That triggers the forced 50% win ratio matchmaking system.

I got int feeders 7 games in a row, got 2 teammates that only play bots games, demote all the way down to p5, get to promos, and get afks. Fun game

~85% of my losses are all from promo games. Literally have like a 90% winrate through silver but I failed my series into gold from straight shit teams

Like, let me just do my annual climb to gold then ill leave you alone rito, jeez

Not exactly.

The system will not let you advance unless you can prove you're able to play at a higher level. So it will statistically stack the odds against you slightly. Whether that's by giving you lower MMR team mates, or higher MMR enemies (affecting the team average). If you're on a winning streak, the system will try to force you back to 50% win rate. This also results in higher MMR enemies / lower MMR allies. Neither of these systems purposefully give you "bad" allies. They give you enemies that are statistically better than your allies.

If you're on a massive winning streak and in promos... RiP.

Also. When match making tries to make a balanced team, it will average everyone's MMR. That means pairing the best player in a group with the worst. This isn't unique to promos though; just some perspective. Being in promos means your at the highest MMR tier for that division. So all players will either be a higher division, or worse than you.

Yep. Purposely! This is the state of the current ELO system.

Maybe. Iirc your mmr gets inflated during promos (since it's hard to drop ranks compared to gaining them) so if you get paired with the same 9 people that you would've without being in promos you'll get the short end of the stick for your team. Matchmaking should adjust for this by just putting better players on both teams, but the available players for ranked is completely random so it doesn't always work out like that.

Of course bad players during promos is hugely overstated due to confirmation bias (nobody remembers unremarkable events during promos), so it might just be that.

It's probably overstated, but not in terms of quantity. The system is designed to stack the odds against you when in promos. That means matching your team's average MMR against a team with a slightly higher MMR. It's not so much that allies are "bad" in promos, the system is just giving them better opponents (which increases their chance of fairing poorly). Whether that means making reducing your team's MMR or increasing the other team's, the result is the same.

And Riot gains what by doing this?

If you go on a win streak, your mmr inflates so they give you the lower mmr teammates to balance teams.

"There was a Jayce ADC who went 0/8 that just finished Pair him up with the promo guy."
