probably quitting this game

(because of the client and it's lack of maintenance)

it's not like I even want to. But since summer the client has taken a nosedive in terms of performance.

It takes me 10-20 minutes to get an instance of the client to open...it takes up all my memory before the game is even running. The app stops responding so I have to force quit it and reopen a new instance of it 20+ times before the app even opens. And then when I finally get it to open, every time it says "repairing", it shuts down and then patches which takes another few minutes.

If i'm lucky, then it will finally let me log in after the 10MB patch, but often it has to "repair" 2-3 times before I can even get the app to open (and again, after the repairs i have to wait 5-10 minutes of force quitting/reopening the app until an instance actually sticks and it opens allowing me to log in. It repairs 100% of the time I open the app. What? Why?

And dont tell me to reinstall. I've reinstalled at least 5 times trying to solve this problem and it's not even worth taking the time and frustration to play this game any more.

Now today it's even worse, I literally can't even open the app so i can start force quitting it to begin this agonizing process which can take 20+ minutes to even log fucking in. It closes immediately before the process even appears in task manager. so done with this crap

It's been like this for months, and each patch seems to make the process take up MORE of my memory. I literally have to discord through my phone now bc LoL takes up so much memory I can't run discord if the client is up. (note: i haven't had to do this for this game same computer for years), only since the new client/last few months.

I don't have a great machine but this is ridiculous. I can run the game fine once i'm actually in it, but the client needs attention because it runs as if i'm trying to run a PS4 game through an NES.

Yeah, I had this problem. The key is to completely uninstall League, and I mean complete. Then reinstall it, like once every couple of months, but even then, the client still sucks.

that's what i did like 5 times. it'll run good for a day and then this shit happens again. And it takes a good hour to reinstall and patch.

i deleted the whole league folder is there anything else for "complete"?

....Yes. You need to properly uninstall it through the uninstaller, restart your computer, then you need run a registry cleaner like CCleaner, then restart your computer... then you can reinstall LoL.

I give you permission to gift me with whatever Riot points you have left.

Disabling/turning off not needed background stuff might help increase performance.

I'm sorry the client is becoming beyond the scope of your computers capabilities, but that is the nature of technology, to evolve. For $150 you can probably get something two years old that will out perform your current setup, but if you cant get I understand.

Do come back soon!

it's not a performance issue tho. The game runs fine and without lag once i'm in the actual game.

it's just the client wont even open for me. How is it that the client requires more performance than the actual game? idk about computers but that sounds like you telling me a browser requires more memory than a video game?

If you’re using chrome, then it probably does lol

OrangeMarine1 votes

lol i do use chrome but it runs waaaaaay better than LoL client

as the person wants to point out, the game's performance requirements hardly dip above 2 ghz of processing power

the client itself, however, wants 2.8 ghz ?

Did it help?

I almost gave up after I had a shit day.i had to reinstall lol. It’s like really can the client ever patch with out being a pain in the ass. It could be worst at least it’s free.

good point. doesn't feel free though when i spend 30minutes just to log in xd

forcing me to multitask lol

ugh it did for the initial reinstallation. Game reinstalled , patched, and opened without any of those issues. By then i was so aggravated i didnt feel like playing.

Now I just tried opening it again and it's back to the same crap of opening and closing instantly. thanks anyway.

it's really not worth it to reinstall every time i wanna play so probably only gonna be playing once every couple weeks if friend group is around. bummer.

You'd be the 51,634th person to not quit after announcing they might, just in the last two years. The stat wasn't tracked before then. [sg-miss-fortune]

i'm not hating on the game like most of the quitter threads though, even though it's changed a lot since i started in S3.

I will be forced to quit bc they aren't maintaining their client

but you took the time to come and drop a comment to try to annoy/anger/irritate people.

Still less time than it would have taken to read your post. it was also valid criticism at your attempt to communicate something with others. But if this is how you answer to people giving you criticism then ... well have a swell life friend!

Are you sure it's not your OS and other software?

Why you are instantly blaming league of legends, tried to install on different machine?

Because never ever, I have experienced such disruptive issues with client.

OrangeMarine1 votes

im not sure but i literally have no problems running anything else. It's an old machine, and this is the only game I play so i can't compare that. (also why this is frustrating, I literally wont be playing video games any longer if i cant play this, besides the odd mario party round at a party...and i grew up playing games).

But no other app suffers this issue where it opens and then instantly closes, and stop responding 10-20+ times so I am forced to force quit the app and try again.

I run a DAW which i think is somewhat intensive. I stream like netflix, stream through websites no problem. Zero browser issues. As long as it's not League, I can run at least 4 apps simultaneously without a problem.

when League is open, if I run 2 apps (League + 1), i see massive slow downs and freezes. If I run 3 apps including League, the computer freezes and crashes.

So Im not positive bc idk anything about tech but LEague is always the common thread in terms of machine performance drop

and I think it's specifically the client, bc when i finally DO get it open, the game runs fine. Sure it takes up a lot of memory so I cant run any other app at the same time, but that's bc my machine is old.

It's the client though that I cant even open

Have you tried writing to support?

OrangeMarine1 votes

no but i guess i might. SSmotzer suggestion helped but its still pretty fucky.

figured id put this to the dozens who might read it and get better suggestions than the 1 support who will read it and offer me generic suggestions like reinstall and use the repair tool (which i did try and it's trash, possibly worse than the client )

also to hopefully remind riot to address their client bc ive sseen many complaints besides mine. Many issues that others experience that i dont experience as well so it's all around messed up
