Clickbait title about Riot, ADCs, and towers.
Disclaimers:
- I'm bronze af so take my opinions with a mountain of salt.
- In general, game balance doesn't interest me beyond the few champions I play and the two I hate.
- This isn't a post about balance but more of an observation based on second hand moba knowledge
Anyways, something interesting I thought about is the relationship between towers and ADCs along with the communities opinion of both. Early on in League/MOBA history (as far as I've researched) ADCs were necessary to the game because they could reliably and safely take towers and/or poke enemys using towers as a safe haven due to being ranged AD champions. Over time though, the community at large wished for a meta shift that made it so ADCs were less required picks and more an optimal but optional choice.
Enter weakening the towers. If towers are less of a threat then there is not as much need for Marksmen in game because other characters can now perform in/near tower range without having to worry about instantly getting popped. It's a sneaky way for Riot to simultaneously increase skirmishes while expanding the bot lane roster.
