Mark of the Kindred counter productive to ganking?

This passive seems counterproductive to ganking. If the enemy can see the mark and know your coming then what is the point? If the mark is invisible in combat but still takes 8 seconds to be effective then its unlikely to ever be taken because successful ganks tend to be less than 8 seconds. Sure you could use it to play mind games, but this will only really work pre first back because once laners start buying wards they will know whether the mark is a real gank or not. The only time I see the mark being useful is against dumb enemies and in teamfights.
