This champ select update was the perfect time to give us 5 bans per team

Within the next 3 years, we're going to have 200-250 champs and these idiots are still only going to allow 6 bans LoL [slayer-jinx-unamused]

I agree to a point.

The counter-argument of not changing too much at once is a decent one. I think I saw a red post where they said they were considering moving it up to 4 each side, but they didn't want to further alienate people who hated the new select system, and they were afraid that it would be too many changes for some people to keep up with.

But I still want 5 bans per side pretty badly.

I like 6 bans. It prevents from players banning out a whole meta.

Tbh 6 bans is fine, if people know how to ban. Whenever people just ban what shit on them last game and leave stuff like Graves open and he gets first picked, thats not the ban systems fault, thats people being selfish and incompetent.

We don't need more bans... Banning is supposed to be strategic... You know this is a strategy game right? You ban based on what team comp you're going for rather than the "op champs" at the time. =.=

Another issue that's kind of understandable from both arguments' sides and one you have to sympathize with the pro scene for once.

In Support of More Than 6 Bans:

  • 6 bans aren't enough to stop all of the broken-OPs currently running unchecked.
  • 1st and 2nd pick actually got made kinda awful to get now that they don't get any votes.

Against Support:

  • 10 bans might be too much, especially considering most players tend to pick a small pool of 5-10 champs for Ranked and practice them a lot.
  • 1st and 2nd picks come back into being highly coveted.
  • Pro scene would be drastically affected in a probably-bad way. Some teams might just take out one player's entire champ pool that he's really good with. Example: Say Faker loses LB, Zed, Yasuo, and 2 other mids he's good with. Well, now he has to make do with sub-par picks, making him perform sub-par overall.

I think I'd be OK with 10 bans if there are more than 6 "trending" (AKA: FotM) picks during the patch, but the pro scene seems to be really comfortable with 6 bans as well.

Had a discussion with a coworker about this last night. He was against it until I pointed out "even with 10 bans you'd still have 110 options to choose from". He then understood that more bans doesn't necessarily mean there would be no options left.

I was surprised Riot didn't increase the bans, yeah.

It has been long overdue.

Flytrap1/26/2016, 8:57:47 PM1 votes

They probably don't want to add in five bans per team because of what it would do to pro play.

FooDang1/26/2016, 9:45:00 PM1 votes

Banning out a lane would be too easy with 5 bans and a first pick. It's not how many champions there are but how many champions there are in the current meta and how many meta champions in each lane.

I would like to see more bans, but I think that the appropriate time to implement a change like that is actually at the start of a preseason, not right before a season actually starts.

Or champion tabs

It was the perfect time. There is no doubt Riot knows the Boards feelings towards bans, and given the new champ select I have no doubt they considered it. This means they came to the conclusion that the cons of having more bans outweighed the pros.

Mech0p1/27/2016, 6:33:29 AM1 votes

I don't know about 5 bans per team right now because that's a ton imo but I do think we need to add at least one more per side.... I think that once we get towards the end of the season though we will have a more balanced game and not so many op/broken champs which are taking all of the bans instead of strategically banning out champs that can destroy what type of team comp you wanna build.... THat is until the next big update or preseason when riot destroys everything we came to love...

SpecterVonBaren1/27/2016, 6:35:23 AM1 votes

Dear God though, it would take forever to get into a game with four more people that could potentially sit on their hands and let the ban timer run out without doing anything...

The Pro-Scene would benefit from 5 bans each side as well. If they chose to target ban a player it would leave them vulnerable to the samr in return or even possibly having one of their previously played team comps entirely banned.

Having more bans ADDS strategy to the game. It also forces players to try new comps and champs and not just go with whats broken in the meta on this patch.

AjabikiFTW1/26/2016, 3:26:42 AM1 votes

They are working on a new client, maybe they'll bring more bans with that. If not at least bring a way to look up owned skins.

But nooooooo

The community can never be satisfied, can it? Can it?

Niyumi1/26/2016, 11:35:10 AM1 votes

This year would be the perfect year for bratty kids to learn how to play against "counters" and champs they don't like.

But nooooooooooooooooooo, they can't put in effort, right? That's horrible! You poor, poor thing.

Slamurai Jack1/26/2016, 1:50:21 PM1 votes

You guys already waste bans on balanced champions. You don't deserve more.

KingKareful1/26/2016, 4:44:17 PM1 votes

I think 4 bans per team would even be enough. It's frustrating as hell when you try to take out the stupid champions only to find out that there's a whole arsenal of them waiting around the corner to mug you off. Regardless of whether or not you underestimate a champion, or merely forget about them, they always show up if you don't because you can't ban them out. Why? Too many OPs. Although another solution to this would be to wait for Riot to finish balancing champions. But come on. I'm not gonna be around in 500 years time...

La Barbotte1/26/2016, 5:53:07 PM1 votes

ok ok watch this, lets say we have 10 bans, the 10 best picks get banned, the 10 best picks that arent banned get picked everytime, same problem, people will want 15 bans, and so on so forth, we dont need more bans, we need balance

BiG PaPa5301/26/2016, 8:14:29 PM1 votes

To the OP. I think 6 bans is plenty. You have 40 seconds to pick what you are looking to play (during this time you see what kind of team comp you will be working with). Not to mention another 35 seconds for each pick. You want to ban the champs that would be more disruptive to your team comp you are showing. Rather then just ban champs that are annoying, and if they pick 1 or possibly 2 of those "annoying" champs, then you have to adjust your team comp a little bit.

Some champs are a pain to play against, but you need to learn to deal with them, because if you keep using the excuse that they are annoying where will it end. Will 10 bans not be enough, will we need to just keep banning champions until the game has 10 champs left to play.

I know sometimes you have your heart set on playing a specific champ, but sometimes you have to alter because it doesn't fit in the team comp you have, or what kind of role you need to fill in order to give your team the best chance of winning.

Any way... good luck out there.
