Reports for 'Negative Attitude'

I'm sure you've all seen this: Your playing a game, and trying your best, but your just not doing well. Someone on your team starts flaming you, and you mute/ignore them. Then, in the post-game screen, you get some warning for 'Negative Attitude'. Another scenario (this actually happened to me): I called jungle, and picked Amumu. Our top wants me to play Heimerdinger jungle, and I say no. If I get the role, it should be my choice as to what jungler I want to play. When we get in the match, our top, a Riven, goes 'Report Amumu for trolling and harassment'. What?!?! This isn't trolling, and neither is it harassment. I don't do so well this game, and another player on my team says to report for trolling and intentionally feeding. Then, what pops up in the post-game screen: 'You have been reported for a Negative Attitude' I proceed to get a chat restriction, all because I didn't want to play Heimerdinger jungle. This is insane. I think that before any punishment at all is issued (except LeaverBuster punishments, of course), the Riot staff should check out the reports. There are just too many angry players out there to have automatic punishment systems! And to make matters worse, people don't even report you for the right reasons. It's always 'Negative Attitude'. I'm sick and tired of players being punished for a lack of skill.

You should leave some thoughts here. I've had a similar experience.

That's dumb. Just because I can ignore the chat and not communicate with my team doesn't mean I should be threatened with a chat restriction for not doing so. I've gotten 2 chat restrictions before I even knew how to use the in-game chat, one of them after my first PvP game, where, as stated above, I had only sent the four messages stated above, none of which any sane human should be offended or discouraged by. If I'm encountering one of these players every other game, the system obviously isn't working because I'm the one getting punished. This automatic punishment system seems more like a weapon than it does a tool. And, I think your a bit confused about the system: It doesn't review any of the chat logs, all it does is compare the ratio of reports to games. If I'm encountering a report-abusing player every game, even when I don't say stuff in chat, which I usually don't, except calling roles and objectives and stuff of course, that means that I'm getting a report every other game, for silly reasons like not giving my support blue, or having a KD ratio less than 1. There are sometimes even players who just report everybody in their game if they are upset. One time I went 17/7/9 as Yorick, not saying a word at all that game, and in the post-game chat, the enemy top laner says: 'yoric noob' and whadd'you know: That notorious old 'Negative Attitude' warning. Which has yet again, given me another chat restriction. I mean, am I just unlucky, or is there something that I'm doing wrong?

I'd really like to see a Red's view on this issue. There have been a lot of threads like this, but I haven't seen one Red post on this matter.

If they wanted you to be Heimerdinger jungler over Amumu jungler, then you aren't the one without knowledge of the game, so keep doing what you're doing.

This happens a lot to me when I play normal games. A 4 party team joins my game, and they proceed to try to bully me into doing things I don't want to by threatening to all report me. It maybe forcing me to choose another lane that I got first, or getting upset when I don't answer every single one of their assist pings.

There should be a harsher punishment for people who abuse the report system in this way. People do this so much when they join games with their friends, and it should be stopped.

That's incorrect. There is an automatic punishment system that issues mild punishments (short suspensions, chat bans, etc.) based on amount of reports for amount of games played, which, by chance can actually be quite high if you get stuck with a snobby 4-man pre-made, or just an unlucky streak of salty, stubborn, and immature players.

The warning appears when you have been reported frequently but at that time the reports aren't validated yet. Sine you got a chat restriction I assume you probably had some long discussion with the people that told you to play Heimerdinger jungle. I have a feeling you have somewhat long defensive discussions with people which might annoy other people outside of the discussion to report both sides.

I can understand that these things can feel unfair especially on the defensive side but as a general rule to avoid these scenarios, you should ask the question "Should my teammates know what I'm about to type?". If yes, it's probably something related to the game, like grouping etc or something related to a joke that is going on in the chat or something funny that happened in game or it's gl hf or gg wp. If it's not and whatever you typed is related to argueing with some guy, just delete the message.

I think the Heimerdinger case could have been avoided by simply saying that you don't have that champion. If they saw you hovering over it, tell them you don't want to jungle with that champion, I will pick another jungler. Case closed don't respond to them anymore about the matter. They won't have a valid reason to report you anymore. They might report anyway, the report gets discarded as a false report, you don't get restrictions.
