How to counter extreme mobility champs?

Around999People··1 votes·402 views

Hey, I'm a Thresh main, and one thing that I can't get for the entire time I've been in League is how to successfully counter those highly mobile champs.

I'm talking about those that have multiple teleports and usually go mid. I can beat an Ez, but Zed, Leblanc and Kat just ROFLstomp me.

So, any tips?

Edit: basically, how do you counter highly mobile champs when you're thresh?

normally you would play champs with targeted cc abilities.

but riot has been nerfing those abilities for years

Fiddlesticks Rammus Maokai Taric Evelynn Garen Irelia Kassadin Leblanc Ryze Zilean

so your best bet is to abuse these champions instead Chogath Blitzcrank Galio Sejuani Alistar Amumu are the best bets for dealing with current cancer.

ryze and cho gath are some of the best anti carry champs in the game.

But that's counter picking.

What if they picked one of the mobile champs after you lock in thresh? Or am I doomed to my adc dying?

theres nothing you can do on thresh besides preemptively throw lantern down and hope your team mate takes it to safety.

You seem to have a problem with assassins

Thresh can build tanky to be a bad assasination target himself and if they jump on his adc he can flay into a hook (and if they used up all their dashes, R to lock them down even longer) or if he isn't next to his adc he can lantern them away from the assassin.

firstly, you don't want to be a squishy thresh in this type of situation. second, you want to try to get in close for a flay. otherwise it's going to be pretty hard to hook them if they have any kind of mobility spells available at the moment. flay them or not, how you play your cards next depends on the type of mobility they have. for example, if you see that leblanc just W'd, and she doesn't have her ult up, go to hook where her W blink platform is. if zed has his shadow and he hasn't blinked to it yet, throw your hook at his shadow. most of the time this will work unless they're really smart... or really dumb. most of the time it's really just a mind game of where they're going to go when you throw their hook, because some people may be smart enough to not even blink back or try to dodge at all, predicting that you would try to throw your hook to their potential blink location. if they have a dash, try to throw your hook towards the end- but not quite at the end, of where their dash would be, depending on who it is. if it's leblanc who dashes at mach 5, just try to guess where she will be. if it's yasuo who has a much slower dash, just try to throw it in the middle of the area that he's dashing. this actually works a lot. anyway these tricks aren't going to work every time but i hope i helped somehow lol. if you keep some of these in mind you'll get better faster with experience.

Ok, so pretty much what I've been doing so far. Guess I've had bad luck with smart enemies who don't blink back ><

Save your hook or flay until after they've used their mobility. For example Kat will typically shunpo in and then ultimate which is a perfect time to CC her. Zed will use his ultimate on your adc or mid typically which after 1.5 seconds will place him behind that champion. Leblanc is a little bit harder but she typically will need to dash and hit the person she's got marked with her Q.

You shouldn't be the one being targetted by them in team fights so it's all about peeling them off your carries. Another useful thing is to use the Face of the Mountain active on whoever the assassin is trying to burst down.

You basically have to play around objectives and not fights. You have to force them to commit to fights they may not want. And then you CC them.

It's annoying, but you have to outplay them. The nice thing about Leblanc and Zed are that they are relatively obvious with what they're going to do. Minor things.

  • Line up. Leblanc is great since she has a linear dash. Throwing your hook at her, is also throwing your hook at her return pad. Same principle as Zed. If you can throw your hook in a manner that is hitting Zed, while also aiming at his shadow, he has a tough time dodging it.

  • Prediction. This is honestly a pain to do, since no one plays the same, and rarely people make smart decisions. For instance, if you see a Leblanc W'ing forward from mid range towards a low ally, she's probably going to R - Q - E, then jump back to her initial W. If you can predict where she'll land from her R(W), she'll either be forced to bounce back to W or tank the hook. Zed follows the same logic. He's going to attempt his assassination routine, then use his ulti shadow for the escape.

No matter what though, you can't have 100% accuracy on these kinds of things. There will be times you'll try to hook the return point, and they'll just not bounce back, or vice versa. It's just something you have to watch for in peoples playstyles, and try to react accordingly to.

Win the exchange. If you can't win the exchange & they're more mobile you Will die.

Thresh is almost exclusively played as a support, it's not much of a surprise you're losing 1v1's against midlane Champs.
