Ranked play and LP

So I'm 5/0 on Zed and my team is throwing the game. They Do things like try to fight the enemy team in the jg with no vision when the enemy team has a baron buff and is ahead on gold and enemy jax is like 10/1 with a lot of farm. I ping them, they ignore me, and they continue to run into darkness and die. They then get mad at me that I didnt go with them. I knew we would all die in there so I didnt go. We lose the game due to continued bad decisions like this, and I drop a tier. I am sick of this riot. You need to to do something about this. I carry teams that sabotage themselves and I pay the price for it. I cannot control who you pair me with. I shouldn't have to lose so much LP because my team refuses to listen and just throws games by making really bad decisions that I cannot control. It makes me not want to play anymore. I work hard to move up in rank just to be slapped down because you pair me with a bunch of numbskulls who do things like try to take baron when 2 of our inhibitors are down and all enemies are up.

It's immensely frustrating. I cant stop the ADC from ignoring team fights to try and solo push a lane and die over and over despite multiple warnings and pleadings to stay in the back line and not try to solo an inner turret late game. Why do I lose LP because these people have no concept of the game? Its a total craps shoot whether you will pair me with competent teammates or not.

I feel LP awards or minus should be based on individual scores, or weighted in some way.

If lp is based on individual performance what's stopping people from getting a good kda then afking

They're weighted based on your mmr, which is the best estimate available of your particular skill.

It's a craps shoot whether you have competent teammates yes, but it's the same craps shoot whether you have competent opponents, and on average they'll have more incompetents in the long run (since theres 5 potentially incompetent people and the assumption is you consider yourself competent, and hence only 4 potential incompetents on your side). Theres plenty of stomps where you'd have a hard time losing even if you did poorly, and plenty of times you'll get stomped despite your best efforts, but it's the times where things are tighter where you really need to step up and make the difference. If you're better than your rank/mmr indicates, then it's those games you'll end up winning, otherwise it boils back to a 50:50.

It like if I dont go 20/2 every game and completely carry everything myself I cant win. I shouldnt have to do every damned thing myself! I feel like im 1 v 5 most of the time! I just lost a game where my lux support decided to go farm and push bot lane solo and die like 3 times doing it and not accomplishing anything despite warnings from the team. And at the same time swain top lane doing the same thing! I mean WTH! How can I possibly win? How do you get to ranked and be that noob still?

Unless you're way way way below your 'true' mmr, you're not expected to win every match. The point is to win more than 50% of them, which will happen if you're below where you 'belong' (and indeed will statistically happen even if you are roughly where you belong, again due to the fact they have 5 potentially incompetent feeder sorts, while theres only 4 on your side, so most people will get 'stuck' slightly above their actual skill level).

How much more than 50% you can manage will be some indication of how far out of line your actual skill level is from your mmr, but it's surprising how quickly your mmr will fix itself if you really do play at a higher level. If you're low silver skill level then climbing out of bronze is going to be a bit of a slog since you'll probably only have like a 51% win rate, but you'll still climb. If you're plat skill level, then climbing out of bronze is like a 75% win rate breeze.

Other players really don't matter for climbing in the big picture, it's only the difference you can make in those handful of 'fair' matches that determines how much you climb. If you're finding that's not the case, you're probably not as good as you think you are.

MMR is not an accurate measure of skill now. . . thats the entire point

And yet matches consisting of diamond players tend to be more skillful than matches consisting of bronzes, and the only thing the system is using to make those matches is MMR.

KDA is a poor measure of skill, because bronze is a bloodbath full of people getting crazy kdas and losing since they're only interested in KDA, while pro matches are sometimes ultra strategic chess matches where first blood isn't for 20 minutes and the game is over before 10 kills occur.

MMR isn't perfect, but that's why I said 'best estimate'. What ultimately matters is your ability to to win games and that's reflected in your MMR. Sometimes that'll be through being a god tier player who is literally 1v5ing with a perfect KDA, other times that might be that you're a god tier proxy singed farming all 3 lanes by their nexus and masterfully executing when they try to stop you (resulting in 0/20/0 or something like that, but winning the game as minions push all the towers).

because there is an afk sensor that stops you from doing that. DOTA has it.
