riot: illaoi is unclear and frustrating to play against

and microintensive!

I'm gonna list the things on my mind:

  1. there's no indication of her curse, if you're cursed there's nothing that gives you a tooltip that tells you what's going on

  2. if your ally is cursed, there's no indication that they are so

  3. there's no timer to see how much longer you or your ally are cursed for

  4. often when cursed, the little "tendril" thing that goes to the wall and the mark on it are next to invisible, so that it's a surprise when the tentacle spawns. this might be skin specific.

  5. attacking the tentacles to destroy them is counterintuitive for me - I keep clicking the health bar to destroy it, and that just moves me to the area.

  6. when you are cursed, it's so easy to spend so much time dodging her tentacles that spawn - and then more frustratingly - destroying them, that you forget to pay attention to other aspects of the game. tax via micro-intensive operations is just not a fun mechanic in this game. microintensive champions are ok, champions that force microintensive interactions is not...

They should add a quest whenever you have the debuff to remind or to educate the enemies that you can remove the curse by destroying 3 tentacles without having to read up what she does.

A few people already answered, but only briefly or with errors.

  1. there's no indication of her curse, if you're cursed there's nothing that gives you a tooltip that tells you what's going on

There is both a VFX (your whole screen looks blue and watery) and a de-buff in your buff bar with a tool-tip, a timer of remaining time, and a counter for how many tentacles you need to destroy before lifting the curse.

2) if your ally is cursed, there's no indication that they are so

I believe there is some watery reflect over their body, but granted it is discrete and it could be improved.

3) there's no timer to see how much longer you or your ally are cursed for

See 1), there is, in your debuff bar. For the record, you spawn a tentacle every 10 seconds for 60 seconds (so 6 tentacles total) and you can lift the curse before the normal duration if you destroy 3 tentacles.

4) often when cursed, the little "tendril" thing that goes to the wall and the mark on it are next to invisible, so that it's a surprise when the tentacle spawns. this might be skin specific.

Never had any issue with that personally. Also, you know that 1 tentacle spawns every 10 seconds, so you have a rough idea about when to look for them spawning. And they spawn on the closest wall, so you also know where to look.

5) attacking the tentacles to destroy them is counterintuitive for me - I keep clicking the health bar to destroy it, and that just moves me to the area.

You never have to click on the health bar to destroy units. Do you last-hit by clicking on the health bar? No. Do you attack champions by clicking their health? No. Have you played against Zyra or Heimer? You destroy their plants/turrets by clicking on them, not their health bar. However, I agree that the hit-box of the tentacles is strange. I know I don't have to click on the health bar, but sometimes I cannot find where I have to right-click on the first try. Probably due to the fact that the tentacles are "in the wall" and that they stand in a place where no other unit usually stands, so it's a bit disconcerting.

6) when you are cursed, it's so easy to spend so much time dodging her tentacles that spawn - and then more frustratingly - destroying them, that you forget to pay attention to other aspects of the game. tax via micro-intensive operations is just not a fun mechanic in this game. microintensive champions are ok, champions that force microintensive interactions is not...

Kinda agree with the general statement about forcing micro-intensive interactions. Not sure it really applies to Illaoi when you properly understand her kit, though. But her kit is definitely complex and has an heavy burden of knowledge for her opponents.

  1. You CAN look at the debuff, not to mention the screen goes green.
  2. Yea, maybe a few clarity buffs might help
  3. I believe it is 30 seconds, but clarity is needed
  4. No, it shows a small little animation of something coming before it pops out. It just really needs some focus
  5. Click the Tentacle, not the health bar.
  6. Then don't get hit.

1 - There is. Your entire screen gets blue and watery and you get a debuff. 3 - There is. It's on your debuff bar. 5 - Clicking on any healthbar will do nothing. You always have to click on the target.

But yeah, regardless of her overall strength, she's not fun to fight.

Been playing this game since season 1. Not since the Xin release has a champ made me so frustrated.

Laning against Illaoi is like being drowned in a puddle of your own diarrhea.

If you're laning against her and die, I won't report you for rage quitting. You were under your tower? She don't give a FUCK. You were at the base? SHE DON'T GIVE A FUCK.

Riot, would you please only match Illaoi mains with Quinn mains? It'll be like a duel of 2 cancers. Thanks.
