"Because you're playing ______"

Gandalf010812··8 votes·2,450 views

I am really getting tired of this line being thrown around in almost every game."Because you're playing ____", said champion. It doesn't matter who I end up playing, people will just constantly recycle and reuse that line over and over again. Are all League champions really that broken? Are people just really that mad? Wouldn't this line apply to everyone then? I don't get it. What champion do I have to play in order for someone not to constantly say "you're ____" or "because you're playing " or " is op". It's just really stupid, immature, and really devalues the champions you're playing.

I guess this is why people turn off /all chat.

I'm sorry, but only a complete idiot would argue that some champions aren't more powerful than others. If you are on a champion that is OP and fits the meta, you have a HUGE advantage.

tonzillacrayon3 votes

half the "op" champions require skill that lower level players wont have that makes the champion "op" . No advantage unless you are playing 5's and the players actually know what they are doing.

3TWarrior2 votes

alright, compare singed to chogath then

singed is a very easy champ to use but very difficult to play effectively.

Chogath is a champ that is very easy to use and also very easy to play effectively, but in exchange for the tank stats which others have in abundance

compare poke supports to heal supports

both are easy to play, but not both are easy to capitalize on, hence if the ADC is bad, then a poke support is in for a bad run because they can't heal the ADC as effectively

tonzillacrayon2 votes

champ that are easier will always be better for lower level, in this case i will give you chogath and annie. Cho gath needs to be punished early before he farms and get big, low elo doesnt know how to do that its why garen is good and annie and ryze. Cho also only have one skillshot so its harder for players to fuck up but they can do it. For someone like annie its all point and click with burst so nobody knows how to play against it. Easy champions beat the harder champions in low elo a majority of the time .

I like both of your perspectives and they both hold true. But what I was initially going for was that it doesn't matter who I play, whether it be Riven, Singed, Azir, Leona, Heimerdinger, each of these range from different skill levels, and I still get that line thrown at me.

One thing I will say though, is that I don't believe any champion is OP. Some champs are good early game, some are good late game, if you know how to use your champion and know their strengths and weaknesses, then you should be able to win lanes. Heck, I have mastered many champions where I can even beat my counters. Hence, the reason why I think saying "so and so is OP" is stupid.

Riven is op. Prove me wrong. Don't use "just cc her" cause that applies to everyone.

Icestar11861 votes

She has mobility, but you can break her combo (most viable tops have some way to do this), play safe in lane, and keep her from snowballing. Or you can out-bully her early with Darius or Shyvana.

Gandalf0108121 votes

Build armor. That's it. She's so heavily reliant on bursting people down that if you play safe early and build some armor, you should win. I am a Riven main, and nothing bothers me more than seeing someone start with Sunfire's.

3TWarrior1 votes

little late on this, but Ryze was permabanned in the lcs because of his update (only one team got to use him and it was clear with 0.8 second cooldown on his root that there was nothing that the enemy team could do against his crowd control)

The Ecdysiast1 votes

What you're saying is really that the simple champions are harder to play because all the flashy high-damage champs have all the things that the simpler ones lack, often also with no mana cost.

3TWarrior1 votes

not necessarily, it's just that the simpler champs can't keep up with the damage and crowd control of the more complex "simple" champs

most simple champs have a slow at most whereas the newer champs have stuns, knockups, silences, roots, etc and a kit that can easily close distance or doesn't have to close distance at all

The Ecdysiast1 votes

No no, that's what we both mean. You're right. It's like trying to shoot the same target from 100 yards away, but as say, Zilean you have a pistol and as Zed you actually get the sniper you'd need for a shot that far.

3TWarrior1 votes

yep, and I agree. lol, it was funny that on the science channel just recently there was a guy with a scope on a pistol who could shoot a balloon 1000 yards away XD

The Ecdysiast1 votes

Ah, exactly. I played a game with some Plat/Diamond kids from my school once and I picked someone I liked to play (it was a blind pick), while they picked Darius Vayne Thresh Katarina JarvanIV .

We were playing for fun, and they just chose a really competitive team. Plat's and Diamonds don't have to be "Good" shots, they just have to learn to use the weapon with the biggest bullet. I figured being 4 full ranks above my entire team, they'd be able to take us out with maybe Taric MissFortune Skarner (this was before Vik's rework) Viktor , and Sion (also before Sion's). But they just showed me what I already knew, that those champions they did choose are extremely powerful. If I wanted to see someone use a sniper, I wouldn't be looking for the video from the Science channel of a guy shooting a balloon at sniper range with a scoped pistol.

Show me a KogMaw ADC main who can still ADC and beat a Vayne of the same rank with him after the nerfs, and I'll say he deserves his rank.

3TWarrior1 votes

it might help if you look up outrageous acts of science with that description

also, I can one up that with mage kogmaw (sorta), it was a horrible match

I was mid kogmaw against a godly lux player

thanks to rito, I kept disconnecting that match and had absolutely no chance, that same lux carried the match 21/2 or so

I believe I got one of those kills, but I was completely helpless during League of Lag time and they actually complemented me on my play style because not only did it force retreats, it kept her from farming

kog maw is one of my favorite champions but he's pretty helpless in this new meta (oddly enough with the tank shred) unless he is fed enough to strike back

if anything though, I think he could outpoke and outplay a vayne at early game, but the vayne would soon outscale him late game because of her passives and mobility/invis

Just because a champion has a higher skill level doesn't mean they should be stronger.

tonzillacrayon2 votes

doesnt mean they are. BUT Also yes it does, If it takes skill to hit the shots every single time and relies on you doing so you should be able to do more than someone who has to do less. Thats like saying mcdonalds should pay the same as doctors because its no fair they are more skilled than you.

Gandalf0108122 votes

If you don't land Leona's E, the Q, or the ult, you suck, you lose. If you hit them all massive rewards. That doesn't mean Leona is OP though, it just means the person playing her is very good at her. I've played against many terrible Leona's and I don't see that champion being OP, yet people have the ignorance to say she is OP, or say she is easy, when the important parts of her kit are skillshots.

tonzillacrayon1 votes

i wouldnt say you lose, you might suck but you are still pretty useful. good low elo champion.

Gandalf0108121 votes

Well if I am playing bot lane, and I see a Leona miss their E and already Q'd, then yeah I am gonna go in and wreck, hence, losing thee lane. Which I have seen many times.

"very good" To be fair, leona takes 0 fucking skill to play. The e moves quick enough to not matter, and the ulti is a joke to land.

Have you seen yellowstar with those leona ults?

True enough, but hes the exception, not the rule.

manliestdino1 votes

Yeah I know it's just funny as fuck seeing that.

The Ecdysiast1 votes

Just because a champion has skillshots (Leona only has one... Her ultimate is a very wide radius ground-target, not a skillshot) doesn't mean they take particular skill to land unless the enemy is a Kalista. She also has a stun auto proc and AoE slow that activates on her own location.

The only thing you really need to do is land Zenith, which is made easier by the fact that unlike Thresh , Blitzcrank , and Morgana 's skillshots, it passes through minions.

That is the EXACT school of thought that allowed champions like LB and Zed to be broken for so long. Champions like that should actually be on the weak side since there is so much potential for counterplay when mastered.

tonzillacrayon1 votes

they were broken for different reasons mostly numbers and how tanky champions werent as viable.

zed is very weak till you can land all 3 shurikens and anyone good wont get hit by all 3, leblanc is useless if she doesnt get fed

Lugg3 votes

Please tell me you are trolling.

The Ecdysiast2 votes

I think what he's really saying is that "when you're Leblanc with item 3157 it's hard to land the shurikens so Zed is actually pretty balanced as long as you're someone more broken than him."

Just because a champion has a higher skill level doesn't mean they should be stronger.

so youre saying a Renekton who takes little skill to do much with should be as equally strong as a Riven playing at the top she could play?

Lugg1 votes

I'm saying that if both players are the same skill level, it shouldn't matter what champions are picked. It should be a 50/50 chance of winning.

(BTW, you could argue that Renekton is actually harder to play at a high level than Riven. Just saying.)

The Ecdysiast1 votes

Well you're right about him being harder, but that's because the higher skill level you go, the less it's about skill. When the players are equal it just comes down to the fact Riot's balance team doesn't know a scale from a ruler.

Lugg1 votes

That is the thing that frustrates me the most. There are champions that you can't beat with certain other champions no matter how skilled you are unless the other player is completely incompetent. Even against a hard counter, you should at least have a chance for some counterplay.

Chaotic Reks1 votes

idk man. playing XinZhao is like turning auto-pilot on for league

The Ecdysiast1 votes

As I said, the ones who don't have certain things in their kits to stand up to the newer ones. Xin does. A lot of champions who were designed to and played mid on release Morgana ,Mordekaiser ,Fiddlesticks ,Karma , don't any more. Ashe didn't until her rework. Gangplank ,Galio,Nocturne ,Yorick ,Warwick, all need almost complete reworks. (Yes, sometimes a new item makes a champion -cough-Warwick-cough- insanely strong, but that doesn't mean the kit isn't outdated, especially after they nerf it to hell to compensate for that item being too strong before realizing it's too strong all around and never buffing him back because they don't want to give us more bans.)

3TWarrior1 votes

actually, mordekaiser is still pretty decent in mid and I actually prefer it, but both top and mid lane play fairly equally for him. Poke mages don't have the same amount of waveclear he does and if they get anywhere near close, he will poke them down

haven't faced a xerath or ziggs yet, but he wholly counters Katarina

now if riot would fix their server issues, I might play him more often, but so far, support seems the only role that can be sacrificed because of RITO LAG

Chaotic Reks1 votes

galio is perfectly fine, just nobody plays him and hence, nobody is good with him. his kit is really rewarding. maybe a small projectile speed increase on his Q and he'd be fine.

The Ecdysiast1 votes

"Skill level." I laughed. Most of the overpowered champions aren't overpowered to compensate for being hard to play, they're overpowered because in a bird-eye view MOBA, it's hard to make a character that's particularly difficult to play as.

4 moves. Maybe 3, maybe 6. If you've ever played Soul Calibur and weren't Nightmare or Seigfried, then you know that even only six abilities is laughable. No one in this game is, compared to other games, difficult to play. It's mostly strategy and timing of WHEN you go in, not what you do when you go in because most champions simply faceroll or right-click anyway. That being said, the champions who ** realistically** have the "highest" difficulty are the very simple ones that just don't have the damage, resistance, mobility, or CC in their kits to stand up to the "high skillcap" ones that have much more damage, mobility, or hard CC because they have maybe a single skillshot and a blink that requires you click one button.

tonzillacrayon1 votes

hmm who knows more a diamond thats been playing since season 2-3 or a silver newb?

The Ecdysiast1 votes

Hmmm... Funny that you're talking to someone who's been playing since season 3. If you're going to be stalking players, at the very least do it right.

I'm only silver because I don't feel like letting my rank be decided by people leaving, disconnecting, or just being outright terrible. Never been Bronze.

The simplicity of the characters is what made the game so popular. With that, all you need to learn is builds and proper strategy. Sure, some champions have a skillshot that if you miss, you simply don't get to go in on the target (most supports, Nidalee ,LeeSin ) but in reality it just says a champion has a lot of difficulty if you need to learn their one or two combos instead of just right-clicking and pressing R like Tryndamere MasterYi Fiora Aatrox Vayne .

The phrase itself is true to an extent. Sometimes, your champion allows you to do things other champs cannot, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. For example, if you're playing Leblanc /Riven /Nidalee / any champ with lots of mobility and you escape from the entire enemy team at 1 hp, and you (or someone else) go "Da playzzz" or some stupid garbage like that, someone is probably gonna say that phrase. And it is 100% true.

However, it's not always true. Sometimes people are just having a bad game/ get outplayed and so they get upset. I remember, kinda recently, when Leblanc was still FOTM. I was playing Syndra (a pretty ok pick vs her) against her and I played the best I have in a while. The guy spent the entire game raging about how I only won because I was playing Syndra, and that she's extremely OP and takes absolutely no skill to play etc etc.

tl;dr Sometimes

to be fair all syndra really does is just q e w r and the enemy dies. that has very little counterplay since she can make the q start moving as soon as it appears by e'ing right as the q starts being cast and once you get stunned the w will hit every time.

Provengreil4 votes

Well....yeah? I mean, what series of keys did YOU bind your your moves to?

PBnJelly1 votes

Well first of all, I never really said that Syndra was hard. I'm not gonna start arguing about Syndra's balance because I could go on for a while but this isn't the right place to do it. The whole point of that example is that sometimes, when people just outright get outplayed (the Leblanc was pretty bad, and at the time, LB was a much stronger pick than Syndra) they tend to find anything to blame but themselves. From how OP the enemy champ is, to how weak their champ is, to lag, to a bug, etc.

Velkoz generally considered the most balanced champion

Icestar11861 votes

He's never been buffed or nerfed. Except when they gave everyone 4 more armor and nerfed armor runes.

He's gotten hitbox tweaks to match visuals, but that's clarity. He probably is the most balanced champ.

I've had people complain about how much he can spam abilities. Vel with 40% cdr, ryliandry's, void staff, and sorc shoes can kill an ulting alistar so it's not too surprising that people will call him op if you do well.
