Syndra's disappearance from competitive play - Meddler what are your thoughts?

Hello,

I am a huge Syndra fan both play- and also designwise. I have always been excited when a pro players hovers over Syndra or even locks her in - A champion that requires both paying attention to positioning and also a certain amount of mechanical skill. Riot quickly realized that her laning phase was a bit too opressive and decided to tune her down just a tiny bit, which is perfectly fine by me. Mettler stated: We will have a close look on Syndra's performance and decide whether more (buffs) are necessary.

With the rise of tanky jungler with heavy engage and midlaners who have always had a strong follow up, Syndra's main weakness, not being able to escape out of tricky situations due to her lack of mobility, have made her disappearing from the competitive scene which I think is incredibly sad (I can't stress enough how excited it is to see someone playing her to her full potential.) The only one remaining to play Syndra is UOL PowerofEvil.

So what are your (balance team & community) thoughts on Syndra? Don't you miss her as well in competitive? I personally will keep playing Syndra, even though other midlaners might currently be a little bit stronger.

My suggestion would be to slightly compensate her weaknesses and leave her damage output as it it, for example with:

  • Making her passive a bit more powerful regarding her W- spell (increase slow.) --> Helps her getting out of tricky situations + more teamfight power lategame, the laning phase remains the same because this would only kick in late game.

  • W slow increase

  • Mana cost decrease on any spell (q mid/lategame similar to ziggs changes)

  • Now this one is special: Increase her movement speed! Would offer her slightly easier matchups regarding champs like Zed and also helps her with her weaknesses.

I hope you all have a wonderful day, I wrote this on my mobile phone therefore you might encounter some mistakes. Füzzerich

Syndra is one of my main too but I want her in this state. Do you really want your liked champion popular? Just be better and master on her.

TBH the only reason we see POE play Syndra is because it's a comfort pick next to Orianna, and Cass. Of those and other mid picks he won't blind pick it ever. If you noticed most of the time that Syndra is picked, it's usually last pick during pick and ban. Syndra doesn't fit easily in the meta and actually needs a team comp behind her to do well, especially in teamfights. So Syndra for UOL is really a niche or circumstantial pick especially when UOL is the team that innovates new picks and comps.

I will say that I slightly miss her in competitive, but from experience it just promotes more unnecessary nerfs if she becomes a constant pick. I'm ok with where she is and can use her effectively. Syndra is good at punishing mistakes and mispositioning which is all she has going for her. Her range is somewhat trivial because early game it feels godlike due to constant early lane pressure/poke, but late game the range of Q is like a playing russian roulette especially when team fights can erupt so she practically can't do anything and must rely on Q-E for safe poke, which puts her at a disadvantage most of the time. 2 spells down and one major utility down; makes her truly vulnerable late game; cost a lot of mana. Poke assassin turning into a control mage late game like Ori just doesn't click into people's head, so your team mates have no clue how to back you up if you're in danger. She has good damage late game, she just needs the peel to actually safely kite her damage out.

I do agree that Syndra needs more utility late game if she wants to stay relevant since her early game pressure is practically gone. Weak early and survive till 6 sounds like Akali or Kassadin; you know without the mobility. She just needs that lategame presence to actually fit her lore.

How about reverting 5.1 changes?

I just want her to be less about blowing people up with R.

That's the noobiest, least skill intensive aspect of her kit. I hope shes buffed to be more about zone and control.

Well, she can still blow you just by pressing R, but her stun is harder to land now. Why do you play low mobility and squishy champions with hard to land skills, when there are more reliable versions of him: Annie, Xerath, Ori can zone or CC + their damage is not that bad? Brand is not played for the same reason.
