Armor penetration or AD?

can someone explain the difference between the two?

and if 10 Armor Pent, is better than 10 AD?

i've been told, that 10 armor penteration, well make a said enemy with 100 armor, treated as enemy with a 90 armor.

the bonus damage being 10 AD.

"IF" so isn't it just cheaper to buy the 10 AD right off the bat?

that is all, thanks.

...Okay I'm gonna have to stop you for a moment. How do you think Armor works?

i without any form of shame will gladly say i have no idea.

i used to think it reduces damage by a flat amount (based on armor you have)

It reduces by a percentage, for example 30 armor is around 40%, 70 armor around 50%, 100 armor around 55%, 180 armor around , 63%, 250 armor around 68%. As you get more armor points, the amount that each armor point gives in physical damage reduction, decreases.

your explanation is correct, but your numbers are off. the formula for the damage resisted by armor is armor/(armor+100)*100 (%).

therefore (rough calculations):

30 armor = 20% 70 armor = 40% 100 armor = 50% 180 armor = 65% 250 armor = 70%

That is very much not the case.

I think the problem is your understanding of how Armor works is incorrect (don't worry, I made a similar mistake when I got started playing his game). Armor decreases the percentage of damage you take. Take a look at this from the wiki:

Every point of armor requires a unit to take 1% more of its maximum health in physical damage to be killed. This is called effective health.

Example: A unit with 60 armor has 60% more of its maximum health in effective health, so if the unit has 1000 maximum health, it will take 1600 physical damage to kill it.

Armor penetration allows you to ignore some of that armor, and makes your damage more efficient. For example, if the enemy has 100 armor, and you have 10 armor penetration, then your attacks will damage them as if they only had 90 armor. Whether or not this is more gold efficient than stacking pure damage depends on how much armor the enemy has stacked. If they have 30 armor, then they are still taking a large percentage of your damage even without Armor penetration. If they have 300 armor, you better get some penetration if you wish to even leave a dent.

Are you talking about runes? If you are, ad i think is better because it helps you cs more efficiently. In terms of gameplay, the reason people rush brutalizer is because a champions base armor REISTANCE is greatly affected by a flat 10 armor pen early. For reference the difference between 30 and 20 armor is much bigger then the difference between 210 and 200 armor, in terms of physical damage reduction.
