Lucian W needs something.... more

Just to start off with a little background about me, I've been playing Lucian since his release. Ive got about 500 ranked games with him, and I dont even know how many norms, but safe to say a lot. He got me into silver in season 4, and got me into platinum this season. I love how his kit works and functions; how he plays. No matter how much I play him, I never get tired of him. For the first time in a year, Lucian finally got buffed, which means Riot finally realized that he needed some help.

"Lightslinger’s ‘spell-weaving’ paradigm gives him a unique flair among marksmen, but hinges upon each spell being innately worth casting. Ever since lopping off Ardent Blaze’s AD ratio, the ability’s felt lackluster, so we’re pumping up its utility"-taken directly from the patch notes.

I think Riot are right in addressing this, but the W needs something more. The w is a utility spell; I get that. With the ad ratio gone, it became solely a utility spell. But it's utility is really only useful in two scenarios: Either when you want to scout a brush, or close distance with the culling. These buffs really only made it better in these two cases. You can fire off the w first, and then the culling to close distance with the added speed, but in a teamfight, the only time you'll use your w is when you want to proc your passive again, which basically means that Lucian w is useless. its a skillshot where simply firing it is more important than landing it

To fix this, the w needs something more. I've been thinking recently that perhaps giving another 10% more damage on your passive to those who are marked with ardent blaze would be perfect. Or really anything that gives a small damage boost to marked targets. This way, you get an ability that actually matters when you land it, and can be used in more than the two ways stated above. This way its still a utility spell in that it won't do any damage when it hits, but can buff Lucian's damage after they're marked.

I agree. The issue imo is that they buffed Lucians lategame and left his early game alone so he is still not the lanebully he was intended to be. I would rather have a weak early game buff than this weak lategame/utility buff that does very little for him regardless unless he manages to definately win his lane.

He is still as horrendous against Vayne so while I love this champ, I still don't see any incentive to pick him over, say Vayne or Jinx who can both play passively and simply outscale him easely despite the lategame buffs.

I disagree. I have also been a Lucian main since his release. I have played him anywhere from low Silver to low Diamond MMR and this past year he has felt very weak. However, the change to the W completely changed how strong of a teamfight champion Lucian can be now. It has so many more uses, the kiting potential is amazing due to the amount of movement speed you gain, especially if you combine it with the red upgrade to boots. Additionally, you teammates being able to proc your W for you, remember it marks all targets hit for 6 seconds, means that Lucian can effectively get a mini Jinx passive from just your teammates or tanks being in the fight. This allows him to reposition quickly, burst priority targets, and kite damage spells extremely effectively.

TL;DR, the W buff is amazing for Lucian.

Yeah, as a Lucian player of many games (300 at least) I do think he needs a little more "umph." If Riot's balance team is okay with having W being a utility only spell, then why not add some power back to his E (relentless pursuit). I think the W changes are fine in themselves, but he needs to have access to more damage, currently his scaling curve is too slow, especially compared to the likes of a Jinx or Vayne. I'd recommend reducing his E CD so he has more access to kiting and damage through his Lightslinger passive. Currently his E goes as follows: 18/17/16/15/14 per rank up, I'd like to see something along the lines of 16/15/14/13/12 possibly also allowing for his E to refresh CD if he kills somebody with the Culling. Honestly, he just needs a couple more small buffs and he'd be strong, but not overbearing.

Yes... I agree. I love Lucian ,his mechanics and I have been playing him for while. He is my main and the champ I enjoy the most. Unlike most people, I really play ap luc and while ad Lucian is stronger, I really enjoy ap Lucian mid more. It just seems more challenging and fun to dodge skill shots with your e and poke with your w against opponents who could burst you down in a sec. It's rewarding when you beat them.

However, I too also felt he needed a buff both in ad and ap as he seemed weak in this meta. As ad Lucian, I felt he was lacking in damage compared to other adc like vayne, So Im glad with the 10% ad on his passive although I really don't think that's enough.

One reason people don't like to use his w as ad luc is because not only does it not do any real damage, but like his q, there is a delay in casting it. If I'm going to stop to defend myself while being chased by an assassin, I want immediate damage. The delay on the w does not help in that crucial moment especially since I have to stop again to use my passive after w.

Now, I want to talk about ap Lucian as riot doesn't seem to realize or even CARE that there are ap abilities in his kit. As ap Lucian, I felt my only ap skills are his w and r. Now with the huge nerf on the cooldown of his ult, ap Lucian has even less tools to use. To make up for his lack of ap skills, nashors tooth seemed ideal for his passive, because of the fact that his passive doubles its on hit effects and it is bypasses the nerfs to his passive damage . However, the result ironically is lacking in damage.

The reason for this is that narshor by itself is rather weak and champs who use nashors tooth, usually have ap scaling built into their auto attacks through their abilities. So nashor's kinda just stacks with that. Hence, since Lucian auto attacks don't have any ap scaling, nashors doesn't work that well even if he double's its passive. Now considering riot did say they want to see nashor used on more champs, I felt like Lucian would be a great candidate. Because there are only 2 champs who really use nashor, Diana and kayle. Teemo now just goes for Luden's echo.

So the buff I thought of was practically the same as mentioned before. Allow Lucian auto attacks to do additional damage to targets that have been hit by his w, but in my version, it would scale off of both ad and ap. So Nashor would just sorta stack in ap scaling on his auto attacks.

Now, another thing that makes Lucian fun and unique is his ult. Considering the huge cooldown reduction nerf it received, I felt that a buff in damage should have been put in place to compensate. You know how many times I've ulted while trying to get away from an Udyr, simply from him to ignore it and continue to tail me. That's an example of the problem Lucian ult faces and why people simply used it to farm instead of fighting champs.... the lack of damage vs his auto attacks. Not only that, but it is also super hard to land the full ult unless the target is cc'ed and even then, it tends to get blocked by tanks and minion in the way of the target you want.

While the ult is fun, the result is unreliable, hard to land, and lacks damage especially late game. This is where I think Lucian really needs a buff, especially on the ap scaling, as he only has 2 ap skills. Again, I would love to see additional ap/ad scaling on the ult if his w lands on target. Or more damage against a target the longer they get hit based on their max health. Sorta like armor piercing rounds or something.

His ult should be his anti tank skill, like vayne w.

I hope someone at riot would actually listen.
