May I ask why not many people play Shen anymore?

I just played Shen in a game, top lane, went against Riven. I am not even kidding you, my ending score for that game - 6/0/15. Riven literally didn't kill me a single time. Not only this, but with that amazing ultimate of Shen's, I saved people on my team NUMEROUS times. Why don't people use him anymore? I genuinely don't understand it. His Q is seriously now one of my favorite Q's in league omggg. And his W is one of the best shields I've seen at least, and his E is my favorite of all, OmG that taunt!!!! Oh, and I forgot to mention, I had only ever used Shen one other time EVER, and it was in a custom game against an intermediate bot. Seriously though, I want to know why people don't use this champ anymore! Are there downsides to him that I just haven't seen yet? Any commentary is helpful, thank you! :)

Part of the reason to your total victory was that you were up against Riven as Shen.

Oh I see, is Shen a specific counter to Riven? Or tanks in general? I'd like to know, have had many issues with her in the past.

Riven is a snowball toon where if she fails to snowball by mid game she is utterly boned.

Hence when she is up against somebody who is geared completely for dueling, individual and team survival like Shen, she is ruined almost from the get go.

Shen is not a direct counter to Riven per se since that would be bruisers with Silence like say Garen, but Shen is still nevertheless a bad news for her.

Theoretically Garen should beat around Riven like it's a piece of cloth, but balance wise, it's no longer that clear cut.

However indeed, Garen should still destroy Riven if you know what you're doing.

Cc is easily dodgeable, shield doesnt mean much llate since it doesnt provide that much effectice hp to a squishy teammember, weak in lane, no siege/poke potential
