Ranked Solo Queues & The Problems with Climbing which Shouldn't Be
I cannot carry four people to victory, myself. I'll play amazingly on teams which don't know how to build effective team comps, cover objectives, ward, teamfight, play their role effectively, roam, build for their lanes or provide any sort of advantage to the team coming out of laning phase. Teams should be balanced ffs. That's the nature of the matchmaking system, isn't it?
Furthermore, you're taking 20-22 lp from me for every loss and I gain a terribly slanderous 12-16 lp for hard-ass wins (I'm aware of what causes this variance, stay focused). In these very games, I am still the top dmg dealer for my team, by a large amount, and will have created the most opportunities, vision, and utility, with the most combat time - often S rated. I am always at objectives, always roaming, always rushing to fights to assist allies. I am not a one-man-army, nor am I without disgust having to be such in every single game that I play. Reward me for it.
I queue ranked to have 4 other players on my team which are working for the same goal, to have peers at the same skill level (at least at the level in which I am currently placed) who are also providing advantages of their own. It's exhausting to have to pull the team forward every time that I queue, toes digging into the mud, only to lose it because it is impossible for me to cover all of the bases necessary to win a match.
Now, while you're likely to callously assume that I'm boasting and that I'm exaggerating my abilities and contributions to the teams I'm a part of, I'll have to insist that I am accurate on this point and well above the, now, Gold V peers that I am surrounded by. I won all but 1 of my placement matches, only granting me a Gold 1 placement. I'd settled on this as fine and stretched forward for Platinum again this year only to lose the most ungodly imbalanced (one-sided and skill-imbalanced) promo matches I'd ever seen. In the ballpark of 12 times I then tried to make it through promos and into Platinum V only to be massively thwarted by what, again, seemed like intentional team imbalance. I really don't appreciate this. Continuing the trend with this hateful mmr system, you've tanked my mmr to the point where I've lost multiple sub-tiers of ground and am unable to climb despite always winning lane and always having what is in my experienced opinion the most contribution to the team throughout laning, mid-game, teamfights and objectives. I am the very definition of a team player.
Further hampering the desires of most to climb the ladder, there are "hyper carry" champions which have much easier times climbing the ladder because, with them, you can effectively play the game without your team, getting kills, having easy escapes, and landsliding the game into your favor by sheer cheese-level dominance, fulfilling multiple aspects of a team comp (cc, tank, engage, escape, burst) with one champion pick. Why is it necessary for us to have to play these in order to progress? Haven't we seen enough of the same champions spammed in queues because of their ease of victory? I am personally sick of seeing them and refuse to stoop to such a shitty dynamic. I, like many others, play the champions I love, with of course regard to what the comp needs. Those of us doing well with them, and picking them in situations where they'll fulfill needed aspects of the team dynamic, shouldn't be at a disadvantage simply because they aren't as easy to solo-dominate games with. You end up with many champions who require too much from the rest of their team to effectively deal dmg, and by that, flesh out their role for the team. How many adcs or mids are playing games and not having the correct versions of bruisers for top lane or jungle and they're losing because there is no front line or distraction or engage or cc. It's always a version or combination of these. Team comp has become, in the later years of League of Legends, to be too much of an impactful thing. I'd point to the bitter, but accurate, saying "always win lane, but lose game". We're 1/5th of the team and we're losing because of team aspects that we aren't at all in control of. I am aware that team comps were polished into a necessary, and vital, component to winning games in order to promote competitive play on the championship stage. But in ranked queues we're beating our heads against the wall because of the champions our allies are picking for top, for jungle, for mid. We ask them, "you realize we have no cc and no tank, right", but it never matters. They'll lock it in and hate you for correctly criticizing their selection. But that's a drastic version of the common problem. Usually you'll have an almost bearable comp, but one which isn't as utterly colossal as what the enemy team threw together (again, hyper carry champions). And regardless of how well you may do in lane, you're playing with an arm bound the entire game and one mistep from anyone, or one absence, will cost you major objectives, towers, and eventually the game. It's inevitable.
Frankly, if you demand to keep up this mmr nonsense, you should find a better way of rating players based upon their individual donations to the team cause and then progress them on this merit, alone. Then, I and many others, would be raising our ranking based upon our skill and contributions to the games which we play, and not stagnating into the gutter and being handicapped by your grossly mis-representative mmr contraption.
I know that you at Riot desire to keep the game fun and competitive. I applaud this, even if it's only a cash-eyed-endeavor for you. I formally nudge you to take a stern look at the ugliness of the current ranked system and the frustration and bitterness that it causes. Players want fairness in their games. They want progress for their experienced and well-crafted efforts, not to be spat in the face again and again and mocked by a system that hates them despite the weight which they've put forth.
"TLDR" - some things are worth, and require, more words in order to be expressed correctly and fully.
