"Kog'maw only has a 30% win rate"

Unicky··65 votes·3,945 views

Said the Diana in champ select. (Yes I'm well aware that it's actually 41%) Honestly, I don't care if his win rate is 30, 20 or 10% I just want to use my one of my favorite champions. Just like how I kept playing Veigar in 5.4, it's not like I'm not trying, intentionally feeding or going AFK.

The moral of the story is: It's a video game, screw the meta and just play what you want to play as long as your not ruining others experience (by trolling via intentionally feeding or going AFK) trying your hardest and having fun. I don't care if you're Braum jungle, hybrid off-tank Teemo top, ADC Maokai.

Just do you in soloque.

How's that for a cheesy slogan.

As long as you keep him out of ranked games, go for whatever the hell you wat.

Wait, are you telling me that people aren't allowed to play particular champions in ranked?

I mean, I get that jungle Soraka is a bit out of line, but isn't it a bit far to tell someone to not play a specific champion in their intended role(s) for ranked play?

Well, at least you can't report for "he played Kog'Maw..."

i agree, as long as you pick a champ right for its role (not a Velkoz or Brand ""support"") they shouldn't complain.

I play anything from Rek'sai support to Thresh top to Ashe mid.

Yeah I play the champion it's intended to play, just in a different role. I can't jungle with Rek'sai but I can win games as support with her. Sometimes I play AD TF top and ADC because I know that I can handle the champion.

People trash me all the time, lmao. It's nothing new. Just prove them wrong and take your spoils of victory.

As much as I'd love to get behind the whole ideology that "every champion should be allowed to be used" Kog'maw requires too much farm to be relevant (like Dota levels of farm) and a team that is selfless. Both things you will struggle to find in YOLO queue and as a result, be a massive liability to your team.

And you really can't blame those playing ranked are in it to win it.

That being said, Kog'maw will probably be retarded in the pro-scene.

SCApikeman3 votes

If you are mechanically more skilled 40% win rate realistically isn't terrible. You can win with Kog'maw, I personally have stopped playing Kog'maw not because win rate but because I don't like the changes to his R and W but if someone enjoys him they have every right to play him whenever ever they want regardless of ranked or not and people need to concern themselves with how they play.

Shonjl2 votes

It really comes down to skill, if you can make it work then do it. That being said, some things just don't belong though. Kog maw can win if the person playing him is good. But doing something like say Raka jungle or Sona ADC on the other hand, keep that to normals.

In normals people can do as they please, but in ranked, that is meant to be competitive, so if you do something that is stupid, its one thing to be off meta, another to be stupid, then you entirely deserve to be yelled at and possibly reported for beign a troll.

Even with those things his damage sucks. I don't even understand why they reworked him to begin with, he was fine the way he was. This isn't even a "Oh all his mains love him and think he's fine" he was literally fine the way he was and was regularly picked depending on the circumstances and when the meta favored him.

I'm a Koggy main and I've been saying forever that he needed something to help distinguish him from Jinx and Vayne.

This remake has the potential to do it once Riot gets the numbers right. They massively under-estimated how much of a gimp effectively rooting yourself to auto attack is.

Hard Penetrator1 votes

Well you obviously can take what you want but point of ranked (for majority of ppl) is to abuse most overpowered shit you can just up to the nerf point.

Lets say there was a champion that can win every game (and he cannot be banned) but picking him cost 1 year of your life. Elo hungry guys would pick him every single time just to make you feel miserable.

OP just won't have fun against bandwagoners that abuse tryn, graves, yas, lucian for example.

What I believe he's trying to say is

"Don't be that guy who plays Taric jungle in my promos"

You can play Taric in ranked (If you're pretty sure you know what you're doing), but don't build item 1027 item 1028 item 3010 item 1028 item 1027 item 1028 shouting "RUBY IZ FOR VIGOR" every 5 seconds.

In normals, as long as you aren't intentionally trying to feed, I don't care if you try to play Bard as an actual bard

I dunno, "keep him out of ranked" in the context of this thread feels more like "don't play Kog'Maw" rather than "don't break the meta with Kog'Maw."

It's more like "Don't pick a champion people rarely build a team comp around when there are safer choices who can produce more results with less item dependency".

IcyPepper1 votes

Some people are better with Kog'Maw than they are with Vayne.

shrugs

It happens. There's no point in hating them for it.

Then they should adapt to what the meta is if they don't like hearing this stuff. If there is a better safer more reliable option, it makes no strategic sense to not learn that instead. I used to be a sona main, but you bet your ass over the course of season 5 the only ranked games I have on her were in a trolly ranked 5s team. In soloq, you need to put winning before fun, end of story.

Cool story bro, except I actually don't need to cause it's a game. GLHF.

I said some people are better with Kog'Maw, not that they have more fun with him.

Your advice applies to people who don't others picking Kog'Maw as well. There is no point in forbidding others from playing champions they are good at.

Biffolo1 votes

My point is, why would someone be good at kogmaw right now and not have practiced actual good champs currently before going into ranked. There isn't a reason someone should be good with kogmaw right now, because it's a waste of time to be practicing him.

IcyPepper1 votes

And other people have differing opinions.

You can't control them, and them playing Kog'Maw for the right reasons (they're good with him, they've mained him before, they're better with him over other ADC's) is not something worth trying to punish them for.

Honestly, these are one of the things people have to deal with. If I wanted to take your logic to the extreme, you might as well be telling me that people are only allowed to play and ban the top 16 champions or risk being reported, and no other champion is allowed to be played in the game.

It's kind of ridiculous. Some people just prefer Kog'Maw for competitive play. Deal with it.

Biffolo1 votes

I mean, the game would be far more interesting with the things you proposed, since you wouldn't get games where you face poppy in top lane because someone wants to be the next guy to hit challenger with a shit champ. And then if you are half competent, you exploit her weaknesses and absolutely rock her. It makes. Zero. Sense. To play anything that is not the best. Period. Why waste your time doing something that isn't the strongest?

Don't even bother trying to explain.

Most people here don't grasp the concept of playing to win. It's why 'tryhard' is considered an insult.

Just don't come in my ranked game. I need to win, not watch you bathe in your own satisfaction. I won't be happy if youre going to rip off 70% of winning chance just in the lobby.

Oshlet5 votes

That's an odd way of putting it, and could make almost any champion seem negative. Even a 60% winrate one because it 'rips off 40% of winning chance just in lobby'

Punkkee1 votes

i'm not sure that's what he meant by saying 70% chance of winning. it is parallel to the champion's win rate. I think he was exaggerating and explaining that choosing a champion that your entire team doesn't like will overall lower the teamwork and morale and reduce the chance of winning by a significant amount

Spoofghoul8 votes

yea only 30% of games ever get past ff 20

SpecterVonBaren2 votes

I've gotten past that mark on the winning team and Kog's damage is still shit. I even went for the whole on hit build people said you should go for with him and his damage was still terrible compared to old Kog. I used to be able to do the kinds of damage current Kog needs five items to do with two items on old Kog.

At this point, there is no terrible pick... aside from maybe still Sona.

Every character has viability, even some that used to be unviable (Rammus, Malphite, Taric, etc.)

I'm going to check your stats but I can already predict what I will find... Yep, unranked, with stats leaning towards Bronze... look, just because you are low rank doesn't mean you are automatically wrong... but generally speaking, you are uninformed of what the basic mechanics of the game are. Once you reach plat level or so, you will understand that Sona is one of the worst characters.

Yes she has "burst", yes she has "speed up", yes she has "shields" and a "stun", but these abilities are scaled down so hard that they are barely even there. Her E has a very low burst of speed and it only lasts 1.5 seconds, her shield has very low base and scaling value, only lasting 1.5 seconds as well.

Her "burst" requires her to stand within the range of enemy strikes which coupled with her ATROCIOUS defensive stats means she is in tremendous danger each time she decides to unleash her meager damage.

Furthermore, her mana costs are extremely high. She is one of the worst characters in the game.... but again, she is slightly better than she was before, but still needs some help.

ohh yes, i forgot Sona 's poke was a single target skillshot blocked by minions.

Don't blame the champ if you don't know how to stay behind minions.

Crowe Stalker7 votes

Thresh has more than his hook to screw up you and your ADC. Blitzcrank may be telegraphed as hell, but if he grabs you, you WILL die. Leona ignores minions. Alistar also ignores minions. Braum can block your ult. Annie will legit explode you, her 'skillshots' are targeted areas, not projectiles (with the exception of Q which is a targeted effect)

And anything Sona does, Nami does better, including Initiate and poke, which are the two main reasons you even picked Sona.

I only play Sona because I feel like as a champion after her rework, she retains the same identity. Sona is a fun champion, even though weak. If played correctly she can do some major damage bottom lane and help the ADC win lane and hopefully the game. Some supports need a really reliable partner to really shine, where some can be used as just winning the lane solo.

Do whatever the hell you want to do in normals, I honestly don't care as long as you aren't trolling. But if we're in ranked you should stick to meta champs because most people turn into try-hards when they play ranked and they actually like their LP (like myself).

Champion winrates hardly matter in low elo soloQ anyway where victory is dependent on which team fucks up more. I have seen people play the worst possible champions like Nami jungle, AP Rengar, Kha'Zix top, Xin support, and still win, frankly actual champion choice doesn't matter since games snowball out of control so fast that how good or bad you do in lane often doesn't matter, as long as you are playing a champ that can take a ride on someone elses back you'll at least keep 50% winrate.

It's exactly that mentality that turned me off from the game in the first place, and exactly the one that I predicted. The idiot neckbeards come in and it's no longer about personal preference or skill. It's all playing to arbitrary meta stats, completely disregarding whatever your own actual abilities are and the strengths and weaknesses of individual champions. These kinds of people don't have a single thought to call their own, and unfortunately, they are the overwhelming majority of the human race, and that includes League players.
