Slow your roll about the splash art changes

A lot of the splash arts especially the ones that got unified (with the whole global splash art thing) are getting redrawn. It's not as easy as just drawing the picture and sending it in, hell, drawing just one picture in itself can take days and even weeks of gradual work before it's completion. I've just been seeing too much complaining about the splash art changes and I think we just need to be patient after all "Art is worth the pain." - Jhin

Reav3 said that making a entirely new splash art take 1-2 months

Thanks for posting this. Drawing or creating something isn't easy and takes a lot of time. Imagine sitting down in art class and doing a full painting, top to bottom, from brainstorming to completion. It's not going to take one class to do it, and I'd be surprised if someone could even finish one in a month's worth of art classes. For someone to come up with a great concept, they're definitely not likely going to sit around for an hour of brainstorming before rolling it out.

The complaints about the competitive team skin themes, for example. I'm not surprised that they can't make them kickass legendary skins, I don't know too much about them but I'm assuming they make them as soon as they figure out the winners. That would probably take a while too and I'm sure if they took longer to make them higher quality, someone's going to complain that they're too expensive, or it took so long to make them.

So why not save yourselves some extra work, don't bother swapping splash arts between regions, and just upload the new splash arts everywhere when they're done?

Because that pipeline still exists and is an issue to resource management in that example. With this they eliminate said pipeline and free up resources to work on other things. Like updated the splash arts properly.

But you're just making a new pipeline when there's already one there?

Some countries have regulations on what is shown in media; example, skulls and tobacco use are obscene in China. They chose to replace and unify artwork with temporary fixes to keep their work to a minimum when they release and rework champs. It's easier to replace 1 image than have to go through and replace several in other countries. Additionally, creating art that meets standards and isn't offensive in other nations takes a lot of time.

So regions like NA and Eu suffer terrible skins because of others? We'll never get a blood or skull themed champion? Next thing hecarim's spectral riders will be pink ponds and Darius causes people to bleed chocolate.

Censoring a game which is based off of fantasy violence is just silly.

It's not suffering. The skins are fine, the splashes are only temporary fixes. And yes, when you deal with international affairs, and even other people, you do have to take care about customs and offense. It's called being a polite human being.

True, but limiting game content and removing old splashes and such, especially paid for ones, is kinda annoying especially since it seems to happen oh so coincidentally with tenement (Chinese company) buying out riot and suddenly we're forced to accept their splash arts. Look at gentleman cho'gath the first skin I bought, now its so ugly and dopey looking, the old one was cool but apparently smoke, a natural occurring thing is censored. WTF wheres my rp back?

You know you buy the in game model decoration, not the splash art? You can find the art anywhere online. And so what if they're tentatively using Chinese splashes? In the grand scheme of the world, China has the most censorship regulations, so opting to use their art is the easiest temporary, non offensive solution until they can make regulation art that's up to standard with all the new current artwork. Everyone just has to be patient and stop flipping out over a placeholder. Seriously, if half the board read the posts by Riot, there would be so much less upheaval.
