What mages would zonyas be bad on

I think maybe singed if u want to call him a mage?? Idk about you guys but why are mages still dominating mid. I thought we were in an assassin meta. Someone pls explain

Singed isn't a Mage, and Mages are dominating 'cause of the removal of Aegis MR aura.

Zhonya is OK on all Mages, but it's situational. If their physical damage dealers don't threaten you, you're better off going for a Luden or a Voidstaff or something more offensive than Zhonya.

Thank you for being first person on gameplay who understands what zonya is. Also I know hes not im just mocking some dumbass thread the bronze players of gameplay upvoted to hell that basically states zonya is useless on every ap champion

Mages use Zhonya's for 3 reasons other than simply needing the armor which accounts for pretty much every mage in the game.

They die if anyone gets close. This is only not an issue for super high mobility mages and mages who are tanky like . Swain get Zhonya's for reason 2 though.
They deal continuous damage with a toggled or DoT ability that continues after they enter stasis. I may have missed some but these champions get it pretty much every game for this reason.
They are helpless when their abilities are on cooldown. This also accounts for the vast majority of mages. The top ones in this category are probably

We aren't in an assassin meta. A lot of people were/are playing assassins because they just got reworked, but most of them are still getting outclassed by other champions (Mages. If we're talking about midlane assassins.)

why are mages still dominating mid

Because the strongest of the reworks were Khazix and Rengar , which are jungle champions.

Riot's goal was to make it so that Assassins did not instantly burst people down. That leaves room for counterplay, and Mages tend to have tools to help them counterplay (shields, stuns, roots, etc). This in turn means people are less afraid to play Mages into Assassins, so anyone who liked a Mage before and got good with them will probably still play them, while the assassin counterpart has to deal with new mechanics and strategy to do anything Mid.

What mages would zonyas be bad on

Any one that relies on sustained damage output, such as Cassiopeia TwistedFate AurelionSol Azir . Zhonya's active is "don't take damage, hope you're not surrounded and your cooldowns come up before it wears off".
