Question about JG

TL;DR - Sorry about the wall of text. How do you separate an amazing JG from a selfish decent JG? Does having a JG take all the kills from a gank hurt the team in the long run?

I've been playing league for a few years, nothing very serious though. I enjoy playing the game a lot (minus all the toxic behavior in a lot of the matches), I generally play mid lane with Ahri/Lux/Orianna or Support as Soraka/Orianna/Lux.

Lately I've noticed that JG will go for ganks in lanes but instead of letting the ADC/APC get the kill they just take it. I know that it doesn't hurt for them to get the kill for the most part, but at the same time it could potentially put the ADC/APC behind because after the kill the JG also takes all the farm thats available.

I don't play ranked so it could be really different in those matches, but the main issue I have with this is that when a gank goes wrong the JG seems to get mad at the laner and blame them for the missed kill, or if the laner says something about them taking the kill instead of letting the laner snag the kill for the gold the JG responds by telling them to get over it or that they didn't deserver the kill or that they didn't trust the laner to secure the kill.

If the laner goes into the JG to get a bit of farm the JG freaks out on the laner as well "you can't have my blue/red buff because I NEED it"

This isn't the case in every game but it seems to be the new trend of JG lately.

Maybe someone that is a main JG could give me a little more insight on what it's like to be a JG? I've never successfully done JG I've tried it but I felt I wasn't good enough (not to mention I was yelled at constantly even though I had told them before hand that I had never done JG before)

Before the trolls roll in and tell me to google "How to Jungle In LoL" I know that I can read about Jungling at lots of websites including these message boards but I'm looking for a more personalized discussion not just a "this is X, do Y" type of blog entry.

I'd would also appreciate that this tread be kept as civil as possible, I'm not looking to start full blown arguments between Junglers and Laners. Be kind and Informative or find another thread to participate in please. :)

P.s. I also thought it would be neat to see from those that read this thread what your Main Position would be in a poll :D

I don't play jungle often but a major issue i have with feeding laners is that they always manage to feed the kills right back. In my elo (high silver low gold) people just dont have the map awareness nor the ward coverage to maintain a lead so its easier for me to have the kills and force the enemy to my side of the map to stop my pressure. Another major advantage is if the jungler is fed he will be more prepared to effectively gank other lanes especially if the enemy is ahead in said lane. As far as the farm sharing thing goes its a 2 way street and both laners and junglers complain its how people are but i will note that the jungle should be considered a lane so if the jungler has to leave lane to roam and help you they should be compensated whether a kill was secured or not. Just a side note but having your jungler ahead does wonders for securing objectives so sometimes sharing some farm or giving a kill can go a long way to future barons dragons and even towers. Hope this helps and if you have any more questions or something i said isn't clear ill be happy to help.

That is a problem I have noticed as well. There are junglers who think THEY have to carry the game. So they take the kills in lanes and don't give up any of the buffs. The simple fact is that Carry junglers probably win 20% of their games, if that. You can't 1v5 the other team no matter how good you are.

A good jungler will take the first blue buff and the first two red buffs, then start giving them over to the AP carry and ADC. This allows you get get fast clears, have effective early ganks, and get enough gold to get their basic items started. If you are counterjungling, you should encourage your lanes to take the camps near them when their lanes get extended. That way they still get gold and CS without over-extending.

I think it is due to junglers dominating so much the last couple patches, so everyone is wanting a piece of the action.

It depends on what champion I'm playing.

If I'm playing a tank or supportive jungler, like Maokai or Nautilus, I'll usually give kills over and take a cannon minion for myself. If the laner backs, I'll push a wave into the enemy tower and take the farm.

But if I'm a carry jungler, like Rengar or Khazix, then I try my hardest to secure the kills for myself. In this case, however, I almost never tax a lane, unless, again, I push it into the enemy tower when the laner backs.

Solo Queue is a different play style than pre-made 5s. If you want to climb, you assume that all your teammates are complete garbage until proven otherwise. This is harsh, but effective. So if I notice that you don't know how to cs, use your champ, harass effectively, I make a judgement call that you're not going to carry, and that I can use the gold better. I take the kill. You also don't get blue buff unless you're carrying and winning lane hard (Because I can use it better otherwise).

In pre-made 5s, I know that my teammates are amazing. I want them to have every advantage. I will give them that advantage. Exact opposite of solo queue.

See the difference?

personally, I think the jungle is in a very bad place right now because the good junglers (not great or amazing or etc) can easily carry their team to victory just because of their items

the "bad" junglers can afk farm all day and still come back from behind, for instance, a master yi at about 15-25 minutes in will likely have a fully stacked devourer and one offensive item with boots can take out pretty much any lane or combination so long as he is not overwhelmed

the match then becomes a battle of time because the jungler items CAN outscale and probably will outscale other items

for instance, sion with cinderhulk is a tanky crowd control champion with a decent amount of damage

that tank can get up to 8000 hp because of cinderhulk, and don't forget that's twice because of his eternally active passive

It really depends on the champion you are tanking into the jungle, some jungles will be useless unless they get a kill, some won't see a bump big enough to take the kill. As a general rule I don't tax the lane as much if the gank was unsuccessfully but what people consider a successful gank varies. A succesful gank in my terms is as follow: 1. I burned enemy summoners and you kept yours, B. I forced the enemy out of lane and you were able to stay. C. The enemy died. If either of the 3 reason is true then I'll tax lane unless I took the kill, then I will either left the lane or push for turret. Most of the times it will depend on what my teammate rather. A nasus will rather if we leave the enemy turret standing so he can keep farming his Q a riven will most likely want the turret out as soon as possible but it also varies according to the player.

Champions like, Khazix Rengar Diana Nocturne ie assassin type junglers need teh kills as much or even more than the adc/apc. They normally have kits that is either hit or miss (high risk/high reward) and depend on this early kills to snowball and be relevant late game.

Some champions like XinZhao ShyvanaMasterYi Udyr benefits from the kill and should be built different if ahead a few kills, since they will fall off late game you should push for a mid game spike and try to get some global gold for your team, if they give the kills their mid game will be average and they will go straight tank to the late game (except master yi)

Then there is the junglers that wether they take the kill or not won't make much difference Amumu Sejuani Maokai Sion Hecarim will be scary if they get fed since they will be hard to kill but since their role is more utility than damage they can fullfill this role with relatively lesser gold.
