Why'd they get rid of laser tower damage

KuraSei··33 votes·2,628 views

In the past some of the towers would hit you with a consistent beam of damage. Now they all jusy shoot seperate tower shots. It may be because tower shots "ramp up their damage" after a few shots. But towers are so weak this is irrelevant at this point. I think they should bring back the laser and buff it's damage. This way you couldn't just get perma dove. And your nexus towers might actually stand up for one second

Riot will bring them back once they have the technology to fix the sound bug.

2030 here’s hoping.

Also the way those turrets worked wasn’t great, I think a large portion of the player base hated them from what I recall. But then again, I was just looking at past board posts. I don’t imagine I’d find much positive feedback on here, lol.

To add to the issue though, aren’t we already seeing 56 minute pro games because they can’t end? I don’t watch much, but I recall seeing some posts on the topic. I mean it’d probably be fine to bring them back if that’s the case since they weren’t great to begin with. I do remember we used to call them “tickle beams” since they were all but worthless.

Yeah I mentioned they would totally need their damage buffed if brought back. And maybe only replace nexus towers or something. But It just makes more sense in my head that the beam would be better killing a tank. Not sure why

I don't think it matters once you get to the Nexus towers. First team to drop an inhibitor has roughly a 92% chance of winning from what I read. https://www.leagueofgraphs.com/rankings/win-stats . IDK how accurate that is though.

Either way, you buff the Nexus towers and I feel like you're just delaying the inevitable. At that point you've probably lost all map control, are pretty far behind, and generally doomed. But then again, maybe its a good change that won't affect high elo and helps out lower elo?

it made it harder to farm under tower and didn't significantly add damage to enemy champs, which made the whole thing pointless

NineTailedMystic4 votes

No, but laser towers slowed and reduced the damage of what they were targeting.

DeadUnborn1 votes

a regular turret can do that as well if need be, no need for lasers. Usually the one tanking isn't dealing the damage so in very few cases was this useful

KuraSei1 votes

Oh this makes perfectly good sense. Had not thought about farming aspect.

Because it caused problems for computers that could only run on the lower end of the graphics range.

the laser beam effect is still there for the nexus so you're a liar. stop spreading misinformation, liar.

you mean the fountain? Fountain laser rarely sees action so i don't think that could cause a performance issue.

It also just 1 shots you so not like its going very long

Go fish through Red posts if you don't believe me. The base towers were problematic because once they turned on they ran for a long time, often two at once.

The fountain tower also has super low quality visuals compared to the old base lasers.

lol that's such an unreasonable reason to nerf that. I don't think riot is that stupid to do that.

Not everybody has or can afford decent rigs. Riot has tried to accommodate the lowest common denominator for a long time. Many MMO's do. (>_>)

I'm glad they do. A handful of my friends would not be able to play otherwise and I would not have been able to start playing when I did.

Coincidentally I got to talk to a friend that quit specifically due to the base lasers overheating his graphics card. Honestly forgot he played because he stopped so early into the game.(level 3ish)

they haven't been beams for quite some time now. they do basically the same thing, more damage the longer you are getting hit by them.

Critmaster Garen3 votes

beams took time to heat up aswell.

KuraSei1 votes

Buffing this speed or their damage should help though. Guess that maybe be the same as buffing our current turret damage. Idk just a thought

flibitydoo1 votes

then why not, by that logic just buff the ramp up speed or damage of normal turret shots? Since that seems to be the actual flaw here. The lasers were also terrible because it was much more easier to calculate how much dmg you were taking and when to pull out.

IN THE PAST THE TOWERS SHOT BALLS OF MAGIC! like they do now....

then riot decided to try out beams.... the reason it got reverted is because players started to abuse the beams alot, and thus riot decided to NEVER implement beams again THANK THE GODS.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGOkvCfHBcQ

with the consistency of the beams 0 damage was taken by certain champions -.- so riot had no choice but to revert, it couldn't be fixed.

with beams any assassin using item 3146 would also be able to perma tank a beam tower as long as there is a target, so beams are not an option!!!!!!

instead i recommend a tower buff :

1st tower hits takes 50% hp off second tower hit takes 100% hp off. towers now multi-target anyone in its reach.

xelaker1 votes

it was making towers worth a fk, can't have that. same with the little shield on the 2nd tower (not the champ one though that was maybe too far)

But I like building 400 armor and a warmogs and laughing at the towers as I sit under then for until they die.

SwiftKitten881 votes

turrents need 25% hp true damage, 3rd hit onward thats all, we don't need to complicate this shit any more than that...

to be fair 25% hp true damage would be brutal and make sieging really hard. but towers do need a damage buff either armor pen or to deal mixed damage.

Thier reasoning was, summarily, to make base seige easier and punish losing tier twos harder, generally making it easier to close out games.
