Shaco and magic pen.

Why does Ap Shaco have to build lethality and/or armor pen to deal damage on his E? Why can't he have his E magic damage so he can build magic pen and make it viable instead of building magic pen for some extra box and item damage, it doesn't make sense. He should have some form of damage as Ap Shaco (His E) and some form of damage as Ad Shaco (His passive, Auto's and Q). His Q has pointless Ap scalings because you need lethality/armor pen to deal damage, his passive has pointless Ap scalings, needs lethality/armor pen to deal damage, his E has pointless Ap scalings AND Ad scalings because the ratio's are so low... and also you need lethality/armor pen to deal damage..

And if shaco`s e cant do magical damage then shouldn't Katarina be converted to physical damage champ.

Before the assassin update and the consecutive nerfs to shaco, his E used to do magic damage and it was viable to get magic pen if you went ap. Now that most of his kit is AD with AP scaling you have to go straight AP with at least a Duskblade. PURE AP builds no longer work as good as it used to.

I think the reason for the change was that, at the time, shaco was building a tank/bruiser build because his e allowed him to have a high degree of mixed damage which was difficult to itemize against. In order to get rid of bruiser shaco, they changed his E to physical damage so it would scale with lethality items. Unfortunately this has the side effect of making AP shaco have a difficult time itemizing penetration, which is a pretty big nerf.
