I would never accuse Riot of making good decisions, but they've proven time and again that they run on milking the most popular stuff they've got while throwing the rest to the wayside.

Meh, the way they fix midlane is revert malzahar, buff lissandra, and make Galio's W shield work against physical attacks.
Suddenly assassin's/yasuo have counters again, and the champions that counter them are in turn countered by poke mages, who are in turn countered by mobile hypercarries and suddenly almost all the midlaners are viable again.
