Is Critical Strike Chance still considered a bad stat for this game?

Hey there. As you already know, Critical Strike Chance is one of the most RNG (Random Number Generated) factor when it comes to gameplay. Now when you think about it, it doesn't seem so bad as the ADC or whoever builds that stat as they only have a "chance" at critically striking you for extra damage, right? But that's where it gets its consideration as a "bad" stat.

Not only is it chance-based, it's free damage from just getting that good roll from it. That chance can equally go against you as sometimes even with rather high odds (such as 80% or such), you will not get a single Critical Strike from about 10 or so auto attacks. In my opinion, this needs to be less of a "Oh hey, I out-damaged you with my 20-30% Critical Strike Chance" to something more moderate.

If I have to change this, I would somehow tie in Critical Strike Chance from items to the Critical Strike Damage. This is so that the Critical Strike Damage isn't just extra free damage for most champions for 200% (or 220% with item 3031 ) damage.

What is your opinion about Critical Strike Chance as a stat? And should Riot change it somehow?

Crit starts can be very good. Most ADCs for example start item 3031 or item 3087. It isn't always the right call, and you should look at guides for the individual champion you wish to play to see, but it is often a good starting item. As you said, "it's free damage from just getting that good roll from it.", which is a powerful thing. When you are an ADC and will AA almost constantly, even a 20% crit chance will still mean you get multiple crits off.

Critical strike itemization has no place in the game for marksmen right now and serves only to keep them absurdly strong for flashy plays and short games. Marksmen get 1.8asp and 300+AD; back when crit was introduced they got 1.25 and 200. They needed it back then, they dont need it now.

This being said crit isnt really RNG. 50% crit is actually ~75% because every non crit increases your chance to crit. Its why the "1% crit rune" was a thing... with proper usage, you could actually rely on a crit proc.

That is NOT how it worked at all.

In effect it is. If you have any crit at all, theres a sort of entropy system to ensure that you crit eventually and dont go for long strings of non-crits if you have any decent amount of it. 50% crit is, in effect, every 3/4 attacks is a crit due to how crit works.

shrug But who knows, that could just be hoopla from a long time ago thats still in my head.

The system worked to force you towards the correct AVERAGE damage meaning 50% crit chance would work to make it so 1/2 your attacks are crits. If your attack doesn't crit then the next one has a higher chance to crit, but if your attack does crit then your next attack is less likely to crit. They worked to make the equation balance out to not favor you positively or negatively, just make you more likely to be closer to the average damage.

personally not every champ that builds crit should be like ashe. and yes it a random stat cause by chance. its not also ohh I didn't crit, its also ohh I crit, and ohh I got crit. I think crit is fine as it is. crit scales off of ad crit and as.

It's fine. Crits have always been a fun way to scale damage and the only really problematic version of it was the 1% crit rune which is now dead.
