I would really love to have another 15% CDR item

Stiv1234··76 votes·4,189 views

Currently, the only two items that give 15% CDR are item 3158 and (potentially) item 3041 . If you buy a 20% CDR item, you sit at 25% with the CDR mastery, so you cant reach 40% except by sacrificing your MPen or buying a risky snowball item. It would be really nice to have another item with 15% CDR on it so that you can reach the cap while also being able to get the 5% from masteries.

scaling cdr blues = 15%. morello+runes+masteries = 40%. that's how i always do it

Yeah, but as Nomi Malone already pointed out, you usually need the MR against most matchups in the mid lane.

I bring this page mid all the time and generally dominate.

You don't need the MR if you know how to play the lane/match-up. Its not just spamming spells, hoping you hit and don't get hit.

Ionian2 votes

That page is way more situational. Movespeed does not help you at all against champion with mostly targeted damage such as Annie Cassiopeia Katarina Leblanc Talon etc. Flat cdr is also bad for champions with big mana problems early (like Ahri) because they just don't have the mana pool to spam spells. My blind pick mid page is just mpen, ap, hp/lvl, cdr/lvl

It actually helps against Cass. If she misses her Q/W, her E machinegun is useless.

It helps a little, but it's largely relative. Early game, the MS runes give a slight edge but only one Q needs to land and she's overcome the deficit. Since Cass gets inherent CDR, she can easily afford to run MS quints herself.

i wouldnt even say most matchups. I take scaling cdr in most lanes unless im against an extremely powerful early magic damage dealing champion, or im playing Galio mid

I'm pretty sure cdr blues are more cost efficient than mr blues. So you can just buy a null mantle with the money you saved on CDR.

Chuck Charles1 votes

this...this is like your go to on a champ who needs max cdr. i always run scaling cdr blues as they are incredibly efficient. combine that with masteries and you can go athenes, morello, nashors for your 20% cdr.

Smefanye5 votes

I agree, right now the only other way to get 15% is from scaling cdr blues, which you may not take depending on your opponents (remember kids, never walk into lane against a LeBlanc without magic resist in your runes), and since a lot of people take the 5% from masteries it would be nice to get an even 40%.

MasterVidallis4 votes

There is a big itemization gap in this game for CDR AP items. The only two options are both mana regen items, which means they can't efficiently be bought by champs that either don't need the mana or have another mana item like ROA.

Stiv12345 votes

Well, thats another matter. Champions that are manaless should never have easy access to CDR, just like AD champs have no easy access to mana sustain (why would you pick an AP champ over an AD champ then?).

item 3508 item 3004 ?

kDrakari1 votes

Neither of those really counts as "easy access" in my opinion. Essence Reaver is trash-tier and the mana regen it gives isn't even really that good. Manamune gives a huge power trough when you buy tear first item, and not every champion can stack it easily.

Tear usually fixes mana issues and is easily accesible. most mages end up losing power due to not buying ap if they want mana early on.

item 3023

WoonStruck3 votes

Yeah, there's a little concept known as "trade-off."

Stop complaining because you can't get even more out of the already outstanding AP itemization. Do you want to hit harder, be harder to kill, or do you want to spam more spells?

If you're consistent, you'll take CDR blues and do wonderfully with them.

Smefanye5 votes

ok, but the main point here is that there's only 1 item with 15% CDR (mejais doesnt count because if you have 20 stacks chances are you've won anyway), so it limits options, especially since with 5% cdr from masteries, unless you do the 15% scaling cdr of flat 5% cdr, you're gonna go over and have wasted stats.

DokiDokiTodoroki2 votes

I'm pretty sure that they're saying that the wasted stats is intentional. It should be difficult for an AP mage to get 40% without sacrificing the mpen from sorc boots. CDR is an extremely useful stat, and the two biggest CDR items for AP mages (Morello, Athene's), also come with some hefty mana regen. You shouldn't be able to have it all with your build without actually giving up something. Adding more items to conveniently round out to 40% only makes things easier, not necessarily better.

WoonStruck3 votes

Actually, the MS really does help vs cass, kat, lb, and talon.

The majority of their harass is baitable and avoidable with MS quints, starting boots/pots. Just as well, it lets you harass with auto attacks more without paying for it in creep damage.

This is especially noticeable against LB and Talon.

The early advantage lets you severely mitigate their lvl 6 all-in, making it safe to simply farm through their power spike.

Annie is the hardest out of the 5 you listed to deal with, but a jungler easily solves that, as most are really over-aggressive.

I just run scaling cooldown reduction glyphs on most of my mids that need 40% cdr. The 15% cdr is worth way more than 12 MR, especially since you can build athene's on many of these champs so you just get a null magic mantle or chalice on your first back and you've made up the mr. As long as you just avoid getting alll inned by an ap champ before your first back, you won't miss the mr glyphs. The 15% cdr is also way more valuable than the ap/lvl glyphs.
On support I just take 10% from masteries and build 3 10% cdr support items. Tanks you just take 3 cdr glyphs and 5% from masteries and build frozen heart and locket/visage.

What about item 3508

Stiv12344 votes

What do you mean? It has 10%.

ZylotheWolfbane2 votes

I think he meant what about item 3508 getting 15% CDR.

Which would actually be nice, as it would be a bit better of an option for AD caster champs. ER needs some help as it stands.

ShaftyMegee4 votes

I would actually buy it's on adc's if they did that.

Stiv12341 votes

Yeah, but it wouldnt address its core problems. It needs a smoother buildpath.

WoonStruck2 votes

Lol its you buying the stats. You're making the trade-off when you do so. You could use the creep damage/attack speed to help you farm early game. No more wasted stats, if it really bugs you that much. And yes, it really does make the difference when farming under tower with autos.

IcyPepper2 votes

Usually I would be against this (because item 3158 should be a choice if you want 40% clean, and a sacrifice if you don't), but honestly...

I think the real issue is with item 3020 and item 3111 >.>

I think that item 3020 and item 3158 should be on equal ground (do I want more damage, or more cdr without wasted stats?), but because item 3111 on AD assassins can and will force an AP champion to take item 3020, it's really not fair.

In my opinion, and this is just an opinion, I think item 3020 should give 5% cdr and item 3158 should give 10 magic penetration. Or something. Costs adjusted, of course.

A 15% cdr item would be nice, I guess. I'm not super against it, just wanted to voice my opinion on boots and midlane itemization >.>

I don't see what the big deal is. Just end the build with 45% CDR. The 5% from masteries becomes redundant after you finish your build, oh no. It's your first tier masteries, why should they be super amazing in the late game? Do you see a thread about anyone asking for special items to make Block or Meditation better?

Dinitrophenol1 votes

use flat MR marks. you are going to have to sacrifice something if you want that very sexy cdr glyphs's and flat mr reds are almost as good as the flat mr glyphs, you'll be lacking flat pen, but with mastery pen 6% + voidstaff, it'll be fine... also its nice on supports too that do not need pen that much and could use the ap scaling glyphs or cdr

Smefanye1 votes

Personally I like to go armor marks, health seals, Magic resist/mana regen/cdr glyphs depending on the support and fill quints with whats needed as a support. I take the heat early in lane since if I trade me being low for the ad carry being low then I consider that a win since I'll have more potions. Works well most of the time. Again it just seems weird that only 1 item has 15% cdr since if there were more we could have say the option to not run flat cdr so we have more ap/MR but less cdr in lane, or potentially have 15% from an item, 15% from scaling glyphs and finish with a simple 10% support item like Mikael's. Most times I end up going over on cdr because there are surprisingly few paths that'll get you an even 40% cdr on any role

WoonStruck1 votes

CDR isn't supposed to be a given on anything outside of support. Its supposed to be a conscious choice, similar to lifesteal or spellvamp.

That's why I have such a big problem with athenes . You could take away the cdr and people would still buy it constantly if it was gold efficient. It does too much, considering it trivializes mana on essentially every champ. The is especially apparent with Ziggs.

Back when Luci boots were 10% CDR on PBE, a Rioter said they were going to start moving items toward 10%-20% marks instead of more things with 5% in them. If anything, Luci boots and maybe even soulstealer will have their CDR adjusted in the preseason.

Posui Gart1 votes

Try scaling cdr runes, with +15% at level18. Or 5% flat cdr.

Dengeden1 votes

Main problem with that is that the AP champions you hate most would abuse it most. It's like people wanted an AD+Armor item.
