Alright Riot, bring back GP already

I get it. You wanted to make this dramatic. You didn't. You screwed up again.

You took a decent story, shoved a really cheesy not-death death into it, and now you're using it to actively punish everybody who wants to play GP.

You claim you have GP disabled because he is dead. You have GP disabled for no reason. You've gone too far.

You are making it so some people cannot enjoy your game. For a cheap trick. There were so many other possible "solutions" to this for in-game effects. Disabling GP was not the answer.

This isn't funny. This isn't clever. The fact that you're all going around taunting people who legitimately just want to play your game is sickening.

So, a heartfelt thank you to the lore team. You finally do something, and you manage to screw it up by wrecking the game for everybody who happened to like that champion.

Lets go ahead and start killing off some of those top-10 popularity champions and see how long you can get away with it before there are people with pitchforks and torches.

EDIT: This reminds me of that "That’s just like, your opinion, man" thing that happened a while back. Players who actually care are being shrugged off for a joke. Except, this time, instead of being a single employee, it seems to be the full-force of every single red on the boards joining in to have a laugh at the expense of GP players.

Is it really that hard to refrain from playing a champion for a week or so? I honestly don't understand why its such a big deal for people.

Its worth having a champion disabled for the duration of an event to tell a good story. I think this was plenty clever.

Some games- including pay to play or subscription based games where you actually obligated to pay IRL money for the content- have the design and skills of entire races and classes changed and maps or dungeons retired or changed for their stories. Its not a joke. Its one way to handle a good story, and I don't dislike it. It beats the League of Legends lore being crap and the world being entirely static.

The number of people buying into GP being disabled solely because of lore is honestly getting rather amusing to watch, and I almost can't blame Riot for keeping up with it.

Like, people don't particularly take Riot seriously at any other time, and now people are doing so when it's plainly obvious that they're joking. Really, why would a company that prides itself on the competitive aspect of its game remove a character solely for a plot that doesn't affect said competitive aspect?

Besides, if they DID say he was disabled for bugfixing, then we'd just resume the usual "spaghetti code" snark anyway, so Riot's going to get flak no matter what they do.

They probably planned it from the start anyway. Like all Riot projects, the new Gangplank was bound to have some bugs to sort out, and we know he has at least one bug in his barrel interactions. So why not do so during the time in the lore while he's dead?

You have GP disabled for no reason.

There was actually an (arguably) abusable bug with gangplank's barrels though.

He wasn't disabled for no reason.

I'm more disappointed in them relying on a cheap cliché like "They never found the body" to say he's dead. You don't kill a master privateer like Gangplank in such a mediocre way without giving at least some kind of reasoning for it. I'm a little pissed because for as bad as I am at him, Gangplank and Ashe would be my first level five masteries because they have the potential to be that fun to play.

But no, Riot wants to play the game of "He's dead Jim" and probably use this as bait for an M. Night Shymallamadingdong "WHAT A TWIST" and reveal a new Legendary that nobody knew about like "DREAD PIRATE GANGPLANK" that's more of a reference to Davy Jones, Hector Barbossa, or Edward D. Teach (The pirates he's actually based on).

Are you stupid ? He was disable because he was bugged as hell... One exemple is Draven could farm is passive with GangPlank barrels Instead of saying he was disable because of bugs, they said he was dead prior to the story

How dare you...

A MAN HAS DIED HERE!

Loken Stoneheart8/3/2015, 8:49:40 PM1 votes

OH LOOK, GP ISN'T DEAD. HAHAHHAHA. Still disabled though. Man this is getting really f@#$ing old.

Where is the compensation? Needing to play a match as him to get his old, not super fat weird texture isn't really compensation (how did GP put on like 250 pounds from the time he was on his ship, to the time he made it to the dock?) That should just be standard practice, to give traditional skins, because else-wise you're just crapping on people's champions and telling them to deal with it.. Well. Like you're doing right now, tbh.

This little silly "trick" wasn't fun or clever. GP is back, we all knew it would happen. Wooo~. Such suspense. Especially since that "suspense" ruined the game for many players (and still is, because he's still disabled)

Also, please don't lie to us again, kay? You all already know there are some pretty serious trust issues between the playerbase and Riot right now, especially with the lore team. You disabled him to push his skin, and presumably to fix bugs (only the first is confirmed.) What the Rioters did during this event was funny for... maybe a day. Then after that it just felt like pointless taunting.

It was amusing and interesting for the first day. A mild annoyance on the second day but the fun factor was there. Now it's just old.

This event is being awesome. Finally we managed to be able to read stories starring our favourite champions instead of having 3 lazy lines of a bio (I'm looking at you, Shurima champions. Now Amumu's lore is almost "Amumu is a child who is sad and lonely, it sucks m8"). Gangplank's dead both in Lore and game was cool and contributed for the stories behind LoL to be united with the actual game, but I must admit it's about time to have our badass pirate back!

By the way, it may contribute to Gangplank's popularity, as I won't be the only one spamming him after he comes back (I didn't get to try him after the rework)

I want to see how the reddit could react at a red post with title we disabled riven due to some lore problems
