Thoughts on Aatrox

Its been a bit since Aatrox's rework, was released and I figured I'd give Riot some feedback on how it is. So, on to the criticisms!

Passive: While it was compared to Darius's passive, it more reminds me of Gnar's. It's slow to stack, and you have to use it before its gone, as once its gone, you're not getting it back. It terms of the passive itself, it is a little underwhelming. The AS and bonus AD is nice, but it doesn't feel strong enough for something so hard to get/keep. The revive is nice, since its constant, but the window it is up is so narrow, it's easy for an enemy to play around.

Q: Honestly, the changes here are really good. The CD on it feels better, the damage actually scales, and it overall just is better. Good job!

W: Blood Thirst functions pretty well, and the missing health scaling works pretty well. I just wish it had an AD scaling still, since, unless your building health early, it doesn't scale efficiently. In terms of Blood Price, it just feels weaker. The health cost removal was nice, and it makes using the skill a lot less binary, but the hit to the damage really hurts Aatrox. However, it does make CSing easier, although I do have to keep reminding myself to turn it on. Although, I sometimes feel like the skill is bugging a bit, its interaction with wards is strange, and the number of hits it takes to proc BT/BP seem to vary. It may just be me, but the skill could be bugged a bit.

E: The change to physical damage wasn't bad. The increased damage and AD scaling feel nice, and it now proc's BC and Death's Dance, which is nice. Also, I love the shift from scaling to flat health costs. It makes using the skill so much better. That said, I really dislike the removal of the AP scaling. Aatrox was meant to be a hybrid champ, and this scaling loss really restricts his item choices.

R: Not much was changed here, don't expect much to change until he's fully reworked.

Suggestions: Add AP scalings to his other abilities, or remove the AP scaling from his ult. Since his ult lacks utility, having a useless scaling doesn't do Aatrox any good. If you want Aatrox to be only AD, then don't leave him with his current ult scaling. However, I would really prefer him to have more AP scalings. This could promote build variety, and just make Aatrox more viable overall. I understand it may be a bit strong, but just food for thought.

Increase his base or scaling AS. With the loss off the AS on BoRK, and Rageblade/Nashor's no longer being good pickups, there are few pickups for Aatrox that work well with Aatrox. A buff to his AS would make his W a lot cleaner to use. If that's not possible, how about adding passive AS on his ultimate? Maybe something like half the AS it grant's when active.

Allow Blood Price to apply on turrets, dealing reduced damage. With how his new passive works, Aatrox lost quite a bit of his splitpushing power, and this would be a decent way for him to get some of it back.

I agree with the either give him ap ratios as well or get rid of the ult ratio. I would like to see ap ratios on his other stuff because then you can see On hit aatrox or like an ap bruisery aatrox. Would be sort of interesting to do.

My favorite build for pre-rework Aatrox was Gunblade, Rageblade, and Nashors. You had good sustain, good damage, and your ult was actually good for the burst. Keeping options open for Aatrox won't make him any worse, but it'd be nice for the people who played things like AP Aatrox, if it was kept viable.

I would like to see his other abilities gain total AD ratios like his Q did, it'd make the 25% base AD on his passive feel a lot better and make items like triforce and steraks gauge feel a lot better on him (they almost feel perfect for new aatrox whose much more diver then Skirmisher now)

I'd also like it if his passive was a bit less windowed, like the GA and total AD only being up when the blood well is up is fine and fair gameplay, but can the attack speed scale as he builds charges? Something like 1% atk speed per 2% blood well (capping at 50% at max blood well)

And finally it's weird that his passive has 100% and the only way to make it go up is in 20% increments, you could either simplify it to 5 charges and everything you do generates 1 charge, or give aatrox another way to build charges I'm smaller increments, like a percentage of the damage he takes is stored in the blood well

Those are my thoughts on new aatrox and what he needs going forward

As someone who generally preferred the more drain tank style, I like the direction the changes are pushing him in. There are just two notable things that have stood out to me in the games I have played on the new Aatrox.

First, he feels really weak early on. Without any easily accessible boosts to attack speed (getting to his passive in part 2) he just feels clunky in combat, not much damage and not much durability.

This becomes offset late game when you have 4 or some completed items. At this point I have just felt absurdly powerful, literally tower diving 3 people, drain tanking through everything, killing them all, then resurrecting only to full heal about 10 seconds later off creeps. Each item you purchase just makes Aatrox grow exponentially to be an unkillable fighter that has to be chain cced or he will slice through the entire enemy team.

Second, the passive just feels terrible to use. So many times I have died before I could get it up to 5 stacks, I have found myself using my ult more often simply to activate the ability to resurrect than as a steroid or burst damage. Entering fights as Aatrox is mostly a battle to just get that passive online and hope you live long enough to do so. Early on this is quite possibly not going to happen, but once you have more attack speed and some defensive items it becomes easier.

Mostly both of these things create a sense that Aatrox is a huge snowball champion. Early on everything feels weak, clunky, and bad. You don't have the attack speed to use Blood Thirst/Price often enough to fill the blood well or sustain. You don't have the defenses to reliably survive in combat to even get to 5 stacks. And you don't have the damage output yet to really make these trade offs seem worthwhile.

But 4 items later all these problems disappear, you are tanky enough, attack fast enough, and deal enough consistent damage to be a huge threat that is difficult to stop. And honestly, it feels kinda great, but I would be willing to sacrifice a bit of that to make the early game click a little better.

Having some easier way to get an attack speed boost would go a long way to help this, simply getting access to those enhanced attacks a little more often would do wonders to help the feel of the champion. Maybe instead of all of the attack speed being granted at 5 stacks it is granted over each stack up to 5, at which point you get the other bonuses too? Perhaps not a good idea, but something along those lines would do a lot for the champion imo.

Wholeheartedly agree. This new Aatrox struggles to really get ahead but he becomes way too hard to kill if he's allowed to build tank items.

Needs work on the passive for sure hope riot will recognize that.

I just want it reverted, i knew they'd ruin Atropos.

I wouldn't say it ruined him, and reverting him doesn't fix his problems.

id say W is rather weak as healing and damage ,damage nerfed from 200 +100% bonus to 185 now +75% bonus W makes u buy health ,but with 2200 hp missing u heal up to 300 hp at around 300 remaininghealth

He should be able to get some base attack speed boosts now that his passive AS isn't constant.

honestly, I played a couple games with Aatrox. both of them I did fairly well. Last night I went 15-3 on him.

His passive is very wonky. I wish that he didn't need it to be full for the revive to happen. Because in small skirmishes, it goes down too fast for it to be effective.

As for the rest of his kit. I find is pretty nice. The W i feel like scould just be 1 spell, not 2 in one.

The first game I played on him I went Bork into Warmogs.

I was up against a Fiora, She couldn't out damage me anymore because Of the health I had.

They surrendered shortly after the 20 min mark, so I couldn't get to go further in the build.

Usually once you face juggernaughts or Yasuo it becomes a problem to trade with them.

It is like for most of the Top Laners. Unless you are irelia, Fiora, or Riven.

Yasuo is just yasuo.

I like your idea and I think he should be better at splitpushing too.

My suggestion to buff Aatrox without making him overbearing through better numbers is this: Make him gain incremental attack speed (1/5 the blood rush bonus) for every blood rush stack, while keeping the bonuses during blood rush the same. Also, increase the time it takes for Aatrox to not deal or take damage before his stacks start falling off so he has a better chance charging them before a fight.

Oh fuck. They did another champion revamp?

On one of my favourite champions.... Dear GOd. Not Again. Riot. Why do you want to kill my fun in this game?

Julius Evola1 votes

Wow he went down to 36% winrate jungle and 41% winrate top in one patch.

I cannot express my emptiness on this subject.

Yeah jungle aatrox is dead. Not like anyone lamented Ekko jungle.
