We hate Darius (TL;DR included, do not fear the text wall)

Well aware. Gotcha. Permaban. Even though I honestly think that he does have solid counterplay (while heartpounding, absolutely), totally broken as shit. Not here to argue.

But - a lot of people don't realize that the reason he's so OP is because he's like a shittier Riven - he gets food and snowballs to high heaven. The reason he's shittier is his early game is a big pile of moldy dicks sandwiched between two massive turds (I mean, there's worse early games, but unless he's facing a squishy melee champ he's pretty bollocks early).

So there's people who feed with Darius and suck anus in games. Happens all the time. Happens to the pros. Why? Because people haven't figured out that when a Darius is in the game, the beginning of it is supposed to be about him now, not the sucker ADC'ing in bot. Unless that bitch is going to be a wall of armor-shredding, damage-eating, bleeding-out-the-ass-causing, true-damage-slinging titan of terror, you're going to want to put your focus into your Darius early.

If you're still not convinced ganking for Darius and getting him fed is a good idea, well, here's some more motivation - unfed Dariuses are absolute shit. They're a bigger liability than a 0/10 Vayne. They can't take a hit without bulk and they can't do damage if they can't stick out enough shots to the face to activate his Noxian Might. And if you guys haven't figured this part out yet: his Noxian might giving him massive amounts of bonus damage as well as immediately maxing his stacks on hit is where his power comes from. It's his entire power budget right there - his R does mediocre true damage compared to others of its kind without it, he takes forever to apply stacks of Black Cleaver without the bleed damage stacking that shit, and you're not even going to 1v1 with your carpel-tunnel hindered attack speed if you don't have that sweet, sweet bonus damage to back it up (oh my god it's delicious).

So that brings us to the question: How do I, as the mighty Derpius, slayer of all the dinguses too stupid to ban or pick me, get super fucking fed? Well, you could go to your natural lane in top - but the fuck you gonna do up there? Keep trying to kill the same one cocksucker that's been cowering under his turret all game? Never going to get fed that way. Plus if you push it'll take you forever to walk your fat ass back to your turret when the jungler inevitably ganks you because your early mobility is beaten by pre-rework Xerath during his W.

No, that's not what you want to do - what you want to do is take this mother-trucker mid. Do it. Shit's sweet. Yeah, you're going to get flak from your team for going Derpius mid - who wouldn't called you a fingerjerking cockweasel? Most people wouldn't because that's not even a good insult. But seriously, fuck them because you just got Derpius past the pick-ban phase. You're goddamn king of the nerds at this point. So you go mid and guess what's going to happen? Mid's gonna get a cocky demeanor about them because you just countered your stupid self - here's them pushing wave to harass you. What's that? Your jungler's forced to gank mid because you're "losing"? Oh good, then that means BAM, a flash engage with two of the most stupidly strong slows in the game! Honestly, if you don't get a kill out of this then your jungler's special or has like no damage. Or maybe you suck, I dunno.

Now you got Phage. Niiiiiiice. This time, same thing - get them with E, but instead of having to flash, now you kill a minion, get that flat 60 movement speed boost and run up to that immobile bastard and E them in for a reking between you and your jungler. Because honestly at this point if the jungler hasn't realized that you just opened up a buffet for them mid, then they shouldn't be playing the game - they should be coloring the connect-the-dots duck they just "drew".

But now the mid-laner's hiding under his turret like a bitch - no clue how you're going to get them out long enough to murder them, and you're still too squishy and immobile to dive they aes. How the shit you gonna continue getting fed?

Well, what if I told you that in mid-lane, you have not only one, but two lanes that you can gank by just fucking walking to them? Holy Jesus you just hit on a gold mine. You waltz your fat ass down to bot - because for a jackass wearing absurdly huge armor you have a pretty high base movement speed that's perfect for roaming - and start to snowball your other lanes with you. And the best part is you're a goddamn fed Darius, so who's going to win the fight? The cocky-ass Caitlyn? Fuck no! Dunk her! Dunk her right in the goddamn face!

And you don't even have to use teleport. Guess what you can do? Teleport back to lane? Teleport up to top and snowball that bastard now, too? Choice is yours, bitch - the enemy can't do shit because you're the derpiest Derpius to ever derp this side of the Summonderp's Rift. Good job - you just snowballed your team out of control and are basically dragging your team to victory whether they like it or not.

So the point of this is simple: Take Darius mid. It'll ensure your jungler is "forced" to gank for you with some of the best follow-up you could ask from a champion in the game and you'll actually be able to snowball instead of rot at top-lane. Your jungler also maintains dragon control this way instead of picking and choosing (which he'll usually pick dragon over you because they're pretty clueless about how important feeding Darius is), and once you're fed you can go snowball your other lanes with easy access to both without teleport. Additionally, you have shorter walk to lane, a shorter lane for the enemy jungler to try and gank you (while having more sides, you generally outspeed a lot of mids and even some junglers), and even if you're under turret your W has a mana/cooldown refund built into it to assist you farming. Sustain out the fight, hold tight for when your jungler wants to make a play (or if you're feeling ballsy, see if you can't start shit yourself), and dunk, baby, dunk.

Go forth now, ye users of the broken arts, and derp like you've never derped before on Derpius!

some people have massive difficulty understanding midlane

For Carthage2 votes

Already did it multiple times. Works fine - you have in-lane sustain and fairly good bases that just take a while to pump out effectively. As long as the jungler assists you, you're pretty solid.

But you're also the jackass that blatantly lied about your own abilities and knowledge before. Don't think I haven't forgotten that thread just because Riot covered for you. So this is really kind of what I'd expect from you.

AyRe CoNteMpT2 votes

i dont know what you are talking about, but regarding the darius midlane pick: almost everything works in soloQ but "working" doesnt mean its good. your post sounds like it should/can be some sort of new meta which, to me, means that you have no clue about midlane whatsoever.

also "if the jungler assists you" means its not solid, its shit.

tl;dr but since you couldnt do two lines without insults, i guess it wasnt worth reading anyways

Basically you don't have a clue what you're talking about, you blatantly lie while having the proof readily available to view, and you're incredibly self-absorbed to believe you're better than anyone in general with how little you actually know or practice.

But good job crying to Riot about it again.

This is AMAZINGLY written, i'm sitting here laughing my ass off. Why this has downvotes i'm not really sure, i think you put the name Darius somewhere and people will downvote it right away.

In all honesty, probably because they assume I've done it like once and haven't tested it to ensure it's actually viable, so they're downvoting for me playing Darius mid.

The alternative is that they don't want to follow anything not explicitly endorsed by Faker him-fuckin'-self despite the fact that the guy functions almost solely on skill alone and that assassins have been so weak for ages now due to so much of their itemization being switched to sustained damage that the literal only way to win with an assassin is either to be up against team so heavily weak against you that they might as well dodge and rebuild an actual goddamn team or... actually be considerably decent at the champion.

And I've seen considerably decent assassins in solo-queue. No amount of meta could stop the nonsense they'd pull; "out of the meta" doesn't mean they can't just straight up outplay the shit out of their enemies.

Honestly, Darius mid was pretty terrifying before. He could murder pretty much all melee mids (lol yasuo) and kill short ranged mages for making a single error.

Now.. I can still see it working, but with his gutted burst it's going to a lot weaker.

For Carthage1 votes

His early burst is ass, absolutely. But that's why you ask your team for help - it may be solo-queue, but it's still a team game. Having the frame of mind that it's everyone for themselves has cost me more games than won (a lot of the time being when my team has it, and there's been a fair amount where I've had it).

Coordination works wonders. Just gotta make sure you aren't picking into a clear counter and, if you are, that you play that shit smart and fast early - because you start with a 40% slow with another 90% slow at level 3 (or level 2 if you're really coordinating this early kill), and even Syndra's hard pressed to make a gank that worthwhile.

"Darius has a bad early game" aaaaaand I stopped reading.

For Carthage2 votes

Are you trying to fight him in a sustained melee battle while allowing him to get 5 stacks of his passive?

If so, that's you outplaying yourself, dude. Of course he's going to be stronger against melee champs, but quick hit-and-runs or consistent lane harass make him basically worthless. The only reason he works great against mages with more harass is that generally they're too immobile and flimsy to survive an all-in if he manages to get one.

SaltyKracka1 votes

..."Quick hit-and-runs" against W? E?

Unless you're Riven, that shit's not happening.

For Carthage2 votes

Fiora. Gnar. Champs with escapes, champs with harass. Hell, I've seen a Teemo thrash him. Even Garen. He's got some really lousy burst now compared to the old Darius that literally just Q'd the shit out of you from afar. He's got almost nothing different about him early other than his passive and his E giving him a slow. And it's solid for ganks - for getting out a large amount of damage himself, surprisingly lackluster.

SaltyKracka1 votes

I'm still not seeing where "can actually sometimes be beaten in lane" equals "bad early game".

For Carthage2 votes

What do you consider early exactly? Usually I consider it from 1-10 or 11, because at that point laning phase usually ends and you're into teamfighting.

He still has Darius damage early from 1-5. Because Darius. It's how he's always been. Once you get him to 6, you're usually going to be terrified to fight him - you really shouldn't be, though. Generally, most ults in the game have multitudes better utility than Darius has in his, and at that point depending on what champ you are - Jarvan, Mundo, Fiora, Malphite, etc. etc. - your own basic abilities are even out-scaling his in terms of their usefulness. Tops generally have some degree of added bulkiness or shredding capabilities which is what makes them toplaners - Darius has none of those. He is straight binary damage with a couple of slows - and while it was terrifying in lane before because of just how quickly he could make things happen, it's slowed down so much that you actually have time to react and play against him. So Wukong can go in, shred him, invis and bait out his abilities before getting some more free hits on him, Malphite can just slow his attack speed to near nothing while tanking damage with his armor, Fiora can out-true damage him with a lot more straight-forward burst than him, Mundo can literally just sit there and chuck cleavers, Jarvan can just Q poke him to shit and engage freely whenever he's bullied him out of his health - Darius is just laughable in terms of early game. If we're talking immediacy? Yeah, his damage is going to win out because that's all he does is damage - high base, high octane damage. But the reason he eats shit if he doesn't get ahead or even break even is because you find out that so much of his real damage is in that passive of his.

It's not the easiest thing to do by all means. But anybody who's played Darius and learned where his shortcomings are can outplay the shit out of him with more ease than you'd see against a Fiora, Gangplank, or Garen even.

You get an upvote sir, partially because your wall of text was infinitely amusing to read (jesus, I need to get more creative with my insults as well), and because you made a very well-thought out response. And you are right, I've never personally had a problem facing Darius in the laning phase, but then again the Juggernaut-esque champions are the type I fundamentally understand inside and out since they are the ones I enjoy the most.

Darius isn't Garen, the heal Darius has is meant to give him survivability in a teamfight, not to infinitely sustain in lane like Garen can in lane with his passive, Darius needs the kills to stay relevant and maximize his bruiser nature to the fullest, getting shut down seriously hurts him. Then again, that is honestly the nature of all the Juggernauts to some degree: they require snowballing to some degree to function, but if you can get that train running, not even a Riven can compare to the snowball wrecking machine that you become once you get a few kills.

For Carthage1 votes

Oh absolutely. The in-lane sustain is literally just to keep you in lane long enough to not lose out on all your farm - it's why you still basically have to grab crystalline flask and pots no matter where you go. It's a strategy that I'm well aware requires either teamwork or you just being ballsy enough to search for a fortune elsewhere (in the game I played him against Cass, my jungler thought I was trolling and refused to gank, so I told him "Fine, I'll go snowball myself". Walked down the river to bot and got a kill and an assist for me and my ADC before backing and heading to mid again. He didn't hesitate to gank for me again so long as I ensured he no longer had to worry about bot.

Needless to say, he never had to visit bot during laning phase.

NemeBro1 votes

What item do you usually start with, if you have a core start? Doran's Shield? Blade? Flask? Longsword (YOLO)? Cloth five if you're against Yasuo?

For Carthage1 votes

Flask. Mana and health keeps you in the lane, and going bruiser masteries tends to ensure you're tanking the damage you may take. It's a lot of mortar dodging initially (especially if the mage you're facing is a spammer), but if you get ahead it's honestly way easier to keep the ball rolling than if you were top because the enemy getting too close basically means they aren't about to tank out the damage, either - and mid's such a high-priority lane for pushing and ganking that normally it's not far out of the way for your teammates to be near there. Of course, this means you could be ganked often also - but you're also generally bulkier than the typical mid, so even making the walk back from the enemy turret can see you surviving the ensuing nonsense that a normal mage might not survive. Basically, you and your jungler capitalize on mid aggression and your solid slows (most useful against the immobile champs in mid) and you're free to visit bot whenever you want to maintain pressure since Darius can actually clear pretty quickly to roam as well as just freeze a lane effectively now.

There's a fair chance you could lose your turret to you roaming too much, but there's no bonus gold for an enemy taking turret first - and if you're getting more fed off of roams that way, more power to you.
