PBE Mastery Changes Thoughts

Ferocity Tree: Double Edged Sword moved to tier 4 replacing Oppressor. Buffed: Deal 5% increased damage, and take 2.5% increased damage.

Double Edged Sword replaced with Fresh Blood (new). Fresh Blood: Deal 10 + 1 per level damage on the first AA against enemy champions (6s cd).

Battle Trance (new) added to tier 4. Deal increased damage while in combat with enemy champions up to 5% over 5s.

Battle of Fervor changed. Stacks have shorter duration and lower damage, but have higher cap (10 stacks).

Thoughts: Replacing Oppressor with Double Edged Sword is a bad move. Why so is because Battle Trance does the exact same thing, but far better. Oppressor was amazing for champions with CC or those that built Rylai's/Randuim's/Frozen/Righteous. Oppressor should remain and Double Edged Sword should be removed instead.

Cunning Tree: Green Father's Gift (new) added to tier 4. While in a bush your next damaging attack/ability deals 3% of the targets current HP as magic damage (9s cd).

Precision changed. Armor Penetration replaced with Lethality. Gain 1.7 Lethality per level + .6 + .06 Magic Penetration per level.

Thoughts: Green Father's Gift, I feel as though it's adding too much to the power creep; however, it does help with supports doing a bit more damage.

Precision changes I feel as though it's a buff because of how Lethality works. For those that don't know: Physical damage is increased based on targets level and armor.

Resolve Tree: Siegemaster (new tier 2): Gain 8 Armor and Magic Resist when near an allied turret.

Fearless (new tier 4): Gain 10% +2 per level Armor and Magic Resist, when damage by an enemy, for 2s (9s cd).

Courage of the Colossus (new keystone): Gain 10 +10 per level +7% of your Max HP, per enemy champion near you, when you inflict hard CC onto an enemy champion. Shield lasts for 4s (30s cd).

Strength of the Ages removed for Courage of the Colossus.

Thoughts: Siegemaster is great for laners when pushed back and also helps for when getting dived.

Fearless I feel is adding too much to the Armor and Magic Resist boosts that already exist, but it still helps a lot.

Courage of the Colossus is great, but I feel as though is actually pretty insane going with the fact that it stacks per champion and not up to X amount per champion. Potentially you can gain over 35% of your Max HP as a shield.

Strength of the Ages being removed is a poor decision IMO because Bond of Stone is weaker and far less useful. Bond of Stone should have been removed in place of Strength of the Ages instead. Why so is because Courage of the Colossus is far better for tank supports because they have hard CC and abilities to help engage which puts the shield effect to full use. If Strength of the Ages and Courage of the Colossus were to both exist junglers would have a choice of +300 HP or a shield for hard engage junglers with hard CC. This overall adds more diversity to jungle picks and play.

Riot tries to remove generalist mastery Fervor of Battle and effectively nerfed most non-AD Auto Attacker, without providing an alternative Auto Attack Mastery.

It's a nerf to Fervor, but it hasn't destroyed it completely.

Riot complained originally that old masteries were a slew of nuanced micro-math optimizations to favor high-impact choices for the player to impact their playstyle.

http://na.leagueoflegends.com/na/site/2016-season-update/preseason.html

Instead we get all these masteries:

  • with conditional uses
  • Cooldowns between them procing off
  • Spend more mastery points as skill dumps (4 max to 5 max)
  • Unable to fully invest into a tree with ALL your points (30 max points)
  • Get less overall masteries
  • Each tree is changed to not be centric on a simple focus like before (Offense, Defense, Utility) since they are now all mish-mashed together in a clustered mess

It just makes it all feel clunky, unappealing and unrewarding.

There is no diversity with these mastery trees.

IMO there is very little diversity now with the potential upcoming changes. Not sure what their aim is with the potential changes other than, "Hey guys look assassins so we give more damage and a bunch of armor and mr stuff so you don't get blown out of the water-ish."
