Stop Doom and Gloom over Mana
Look, I know we all love mana pots. I have been doom and gloom over them all week - I use more mana pots than most people if you check my game builds.
However, I don't find it as big a deal anymore. Which is to say:
I actually looked through the new masteries
Shocking, I know.
Here's the breakdown:
You can put 18 points in offense and 12 in utility (something many mages already do with 21 0 9) and get all the benefits of an offense tree AND 1.5% missing mana restored.
In season 5 you had to go full utility tree to access meditation
In season 6 you can have the passive from Athene's completely free. On top of that, you either have mana regen buffs or mana pool buffs. That's a big deal.
Let's use Morgana as an example, since I really only care about her anyways.
Base mana: 340 +60/lvl Regen: 1.2/s (1.7/s next season)
Value of potion: 100mana/15s=6.667mana/s
We can estimate where the new mastery and buffs will benefit Morgana more than potions fairly easily - just see where the buff and mana restore fits.
Starting at level 3 because if you're running out of mana before then you're just going to need to stop spamming spells:
Mana regen from masteries and buff if morgana has no mana: 7.4 + base, more than 6.66 already.
Wow! We can already beat mana pot regen at level 3 if we have no mana!
That was easy.
If Morgana is missing 406 or more mana, the new mastery tree will provide comparable regen to a potion. Now, unfortunately that will be a diminishing return, but at level 10 Morgana can have more than half of her mana pool available while regening faster than if she was spamming potions.
Caveat: Precoffee math may be wrong.
So don't worry about mana. Use 18/12/0 and mana will be fine.
. The problem is the removal of
which is an extremely important starting item for mana mids with bad early games such as
... I find myself starting with
and this will make many lanes nearly impossible.
