Honour by Rank?

My buddy's silver (used to be gold++) and I'm bronze and I have way more honors from players, despite him having somewhere between 4x and 10x more games than me.

I assume this is either a result of him playing for longer (did they have honor back then?) or a result of him being a douche (unlikely when he plays with me but otherwise I'm not sure), or a result of players at low rank giving honor more freely.

When I first started I ran out of honor to give. Since then I've been more selective.

I suppose I could be really nice but I don't really think so...

I concur with the observation. When I was new to the game I gave out honours often, and so did everyone else. Then as people get higher level they, and even I, tend to give honours less. When I honoured my friend for being friendly in several matches of ARAM awhile back they asked if I was the one who honoured them, I admitted I was, and they seemed perplexed by that. As such I don't honour as much anymore. Instead of 4-5 honours a game I tend to give only 1-3.
