Taric Jungle not that bad this patch.

Included the custom game just so y'all have an idea of what my item build is. I go Trinity force instead of Iceborn because Taric has great base AD scaling, allowing him to make excellent use out of spellblade procs, doing a lot of damage with them +his own passive. I guess you could take Iceborn if their team is all ad, though.

I did some calculations for his heals, as I was wondering how ramped up they'd be thanks to cinderhulk. Late game, you'll have ~5k health, meaning you'll heal teammates for ~500 (250 from his bonus health scaling alone; woh), and the self-heal will heal for ~700.

I can post my runes+masteries if anyone is actually interested, haha.

Not /too/ bad. He comes out pretty healthy, it's just slightly slow but not something like how Nautilus used to be.

What I do is do Gromp, Blue, Wolves, and back. If you feel you'll need to powerfarm, go Trailblazer; I opt for Skirmishers so I can go into teamfights and smite the damage dealer for more tankiness.

Once you get some cdr and points into W your clears are much faster.

Pretty slow early, but not much worse than any other tank jungler early game. Once he gets bami's cinder and a few levels in his W, it is pretty good. The W armor reduction is really good in the jungle as it allows him to deal pretty high damage to the jungle with basic attacks. His passive works in the jungle as well. Take AS/AD/Hybrid pen Reds, Armor/Armorperlvl/Healthperlvl Yellows, CDR/MRlvl Blues, and Armor/MS/CDR Quints. CDR will give you faster clears, but you will have less resistances. AS will give you the fastest clear for your reds, AD and Hybrid Pen will give you stronger ganks. Armor seals are safest, Taric can get by with Armor per lvl for a stronger mid-late game. Health per levels should only be used if you take armor quints. MS quints are great for Taric as he has no gap closers and it lets him stick to targets better.

I take W first and clear gromp or Red buff. If I take red buff first I level my stun and look for a lvl 2 gank. If I start Gromp, I level my heal and go to blue. Then I go for red and get stun at level 3 with a lot of health. Consider flash stunning for more damage and better follow up with your other abilities.

As for your build, Get Cinderhulk as soon as you can. If you didn't take CDR blues or Quints, Get Frozen Heart and Warmogs early. Sightstone can be an option, but in solo queue at low levels, you might just want to grab an upgraded trinket and pink wards. If you do have CDR in your runes and masteries, Skip Frozen heart and get Thornmail while sitting on a Giants Belt (for Warmog's) or a Catalyst (into Righteous Glory). Spirit Visage is a great item if you need some MR as it works well with your heal and gives you more CDR. Don't underestimate how effective Banshee's Veil and Aegis can be if you need MR though. If you need more Armor on Taric, IBG is a great item as it gives CDR and the spellblade passive. If you are going for more effective health for the same price, Randuin's is a great choice. Basic things to look for in a Taric Build is Armor, Health, Mana, and CDR. If an item has one or more of these, it is probably viable on Taric.

Example builds: These are a few builds that work well with Taric, they are not set in stone as they can be altered and changed around to fit the situation.

item 3709 item 3110 item 3083 item 3065 item 3143 (Super Defensive Build, Gives you the most effective Health; you will be unkillable for the most part unless their ADC is super fed, or they have Cassiopeia) item 3717 item 3075 item 3800 item 3025 item 3083 (Much More offensive build and my favorite kind, Has no MR besides the possible Merc Treads but would fair well against high AD teams while they will not be able to ignore you as you can output a large amount of damage; recommended to take CDR in Runes or take Lucidity boots, as the build does not provide much CDR) item 3725 item 2045 item 3110 item 3190 item 3800 (Utility build, this will give you the most for your team but you will not be as tanky or as much of a threat as the other builds; it has the benefit of being the least expensive)

To the OP, good job noticing Taric jungle as a viability. I really wouldn't recommend Triforce as it is just too expensive and IBG gives more effective stats for Taric (Armor, Mana, CDR). It helps him kite for his team more effectively and with the slow effect of IBG, he shouldn't have a big problem sticking to squishies. If you need the MS, take Furor boots or Alacrity with MS Quints. But Taric shines when he can output lots of AOE damage in a teamfight. His Ult, W plus IBG AA is a pretty effectve Nuke to an enemy team that Taric is standing in the middle of.

Taric jungle will work best against a team with high AD for obvious reasons. But he is also fairly good in team comps that have a hypercarry. He is still a support even as a tank jungler; he is one of the best kiting champions when he has IBG, he shreds armor with his W, and he gives a huge offensive buff to all the champions on his team with his Ult.

Check out Taric Jungle today! It will be "Truly Outrageous!"

Hmm, I see your point. Maybe I'll try switching Trinity out for ICB for a match.

You'll do more damage overall with iceborn. Taric's passive works really well with the armor, and iceborn's aoe slow+damage is beautiful

I guess if you don't account for the occaisonal crit he may do more damage (I can do the math in a bit if you'd like), but I also really like Trinity because the Rage passive +Furor really helps him close in on the more mobile champs who tend to ignore slows nowadays.

I'd like the runes/masteries.

Also, how bad is his clear pre-bamis cinder?

Runes and Masteries

Runes may not be the most efficient (mostly because I don't have enough ip to buy a %health quint and scaling armor seals ;-;). I grab attack speed marks to help his clear, and %health quints to make Cinderhulk a little stronger (in theory). I go pretty defensive in masteries but also gon into utility for the movement speed to help chase and get around the map faster.

Pre-bamis isn't as bad as you'd think it is, haha. Putting two points in W and one in Q makes your first clear pretty alright.

Coincidentally, I was trying this just yesterday. His first clear is actually really healthy - I even managed to do a full 6-camp clear. I mean, 1 game isn't much of a sample pool but I definitely wouldn't rule out Taric Jungle being viable.

I also did a bit of a test with Bard to see how he would do with a Top Lane Tank build (I still played him support) and the results were pretty promising.

EDIT: Also, when you post Gyazo links, right click the image and copy the image URL not the gyazo page url.

He'd probably be okay as a Challenging Smite Cinderhulk Top Lane.

The only issue I have is trying to figure out what Runes and Masteries I should use when I want to be dealing damage by taking damage because I'm so used to playing Bruiser and Off-Tanks where you want to ride the line between Defensive and Offensive stats.

Build-wise I'm noticing that there's a distinct difference between Jungle and Top Lane.

Top Lane: item 3111 item 3143 item 3717 item 3110 item 3065 then item 3075 or item 3102 (Priority being getting highest Effective HP possible.) Jungle: item 3111 item 3800 item 3717 item 3110 item 3190 then item 3075 item 3102 oritem 3065 (Priority being getting highest Effective HP possible while sacrificing some for team utility.)

The build order would be different too because Locket is most useful in the Early-to-Mid game when your squishies haven't purchased defensive items of their own. So rather than going Cinderhulk ---> Frozen Heart ---> Spirit Visage like a Top Lane Taric, you'd be more likely to go for something more like Cinderhulk ---> Locket ---> Righteous Glory.

Note: I guess Bruiser/Off-Tank Taric would be good too, but we're kinda in a Tank META right now so that's what I've referred to the most.

The only way he could do that is by sacrificing Teleport. He cannot do without mobility summoners or he would be a free meal for any jungler. The reason Shyvanna top smite/tele works is that she can use her burnout as a mini ghost to get out of tough situations and she can use her Ult post 6 to do the same. Taric does not have that kind of mobility, if he gets ganked, he will most likely go down. So he would have to take flash toplane and that would get rid of his global presence.

I don't see him being one of the TP/Smite top laners. The only ones I see doing that are high mobility champs like Shyv, Hecarim, Lee Sin, Rek Sai, and maybe Trundle. But besides Shyv and Trundle, I don't see many champions being more optimized by going this route.

Top lane Taric can follow a similar build to jungle Taric though. You can basically swap out Cinderhulk for Sunfire Cape. People say that Cinderhulk is just better overall, but Sunfire is still strong in the early game as it gives more health and armor for about the same price. Top lane you'll typically want to go:

item 3068 item 3025 item 3065 (item 3143 or item 3110) item 3083

or at least something similar. You have lot's of AOE damage, lot's of Health and Lot's of Armor. I would go CDR/lvl blues sometimes on Taric, but if you don't, Frozen Heart is a great item on him as well. You can actually swap it in place of Sunfire or Randuin's (I usually swap out Randuin's) based on what you need. You should have plenty of health if you pick up a Warmog's. I suppose you could replace your IBG with FH, but I really love Gauntlet on Taric as it synergizes with his kit so well. You just want a lot of CDR with Taric to make the most of his passive and have a heal ready at any point in a fight.

To be totally honest, I have been playing it a fair bit. You basically play the lane like you used to if you were playing against Shen. He's pretty immovable, so you shove him under tower then go to your nearest jungle camp, clear it, then return to lane. So you should never really be gankable. If you do get ganked, Challenging smite reduces damage from that person by 20% so smite whoever has the most damage potential, stun them, and walk away like a boss.

Once you get cinderhulk, ganking Taric is more trouble than it's worth and his late game is insane.

These are your main builds (the one with Locket is a jungle build). - they're the most complete builds in my match history so sorry for them being bot games http://i.gyazo.com/10a06eadbe39aa34ca1c97ae19b60e53.png
