The constant complaining about dynamic q is getting old

FiddlesOnTheRoof··13 votes·1,078 views

I've been asking players in every single game their thoughts on it. Everyone likes it. I'd say nine to one, players like it. Stop crying about getting matched against pre mades as solo. You were already going against duos more than you know.Stop saying you can't climb now because of pre mades. Every pro made it back to masters/challenger. Every plat made it back to plat. Every bronze is still bronze. Riot was wrong to promise solo q when they couldn't deliver, but complaining about dynamic q is dumb. You're NOT going to quit buying skins. You're NOT switching to dota or hots... It's just a bunch of empty whiny brats complaining about their free to play game. I think DQ is awesome. Can't say how many times I used to want to grind ranked but also wanted to play with friends. I love DQ, and I don't believe it can coexist with SQ. get over it, or quit the game. So annoying to come to the already toxic boards and see what essentially boils down to copy/paste crying every day.

Lol, your one of those people trying to defend yourself playing dynamic queue. Riot has been trying to confuse people between dynamic queue and the new champion select. Your poll is biased. Asked them if they prefer to go against a 5 man team or a team of regular solo players and see how the responses change.

Yea, I though dynamic queue was the new champion select until I went on boards.

You don't play against 5 mans. Look at your match history.

It's called smurf account. Lol, your trying to change the subject about the fact that you failed to do an accurate poll and expect us to buy it. Why quote me when it has nothing to do with what your going to say next.

I'm not sure what you want. You're wrong. I've listened to master tier players discuss at length how much they like the new DQ and find it superior to what we were offered before. They also acknowledged the difference between DQ and new champ select. (I have no clue how anyone got them confused.) I'll start reiterating the difference when I conduct my polls, along with recording the results.

I'm not trying to defend anything. I don't feel the need to defend it. I'm stating I enjoy it, and the overwhelming number of people I interact with also enjoy it.

They refused to deliver.

You are right. I'm not going to do it, I already did.

I think there's a certain level of conflating going on, where people assume that the new role/champion select method and dynamic queue are the same thing. Let's break it down a bit:

  • Role/champion select - Choosing your primary and secondary roles, then going into the new UI with the bans on the last three players and picking from there
  • Dynamic Queue - The ability to play with any premade size from 1-5

I would be surprised if people were in this much uproar over the new role/champion select, and the reason I think we're seeing so much complaint is that Dynamic Queue replaced Solo Queue for the most competitive ranked queue available in League of Legends.

Mathematically speaking, the most accurate way to do competitive play is the one with the least controllable (read: controllable) variables, and premade size happens to be one of the only ones left. If we view things on a continuum of competition, here's how it ends up:

  • Most accurate matching method - No premades at all, pure Solo Queue
  • Moderately accurate - Only one type of premade, Duo Queue
  • Least accurate matching method - Random premade sizes, Dynamic Queue

This is, I think, one of the main issues people have with DQ. For a competitive queue, it's basically the least accurate implementation possible. Sure, it might help to address toxicity and allow for more socialization, but I think there's a disconnect in the actual point of having Ranked play in the first place.

Easily the most comprehensive argument against DQ I've heard, and one that may force me to rethink my position.

LoL, every pro master/challenger? Yeah, guess how? By duoing.

Many of the pros who climbed solo to master/challenger in previous seasons can't make it above diamond now unless they duo because there is too much variance and they don't have years to spend grinding.

Also, most pros I've seen speak on the subject strongly dislike how DQ works, mainly due to the reason I just stated. Take Aphromoo for instance, a challenger class suppot, dropped all the way down to diamond 3 until he gave up on solo Qing and now practically always duos with Huhi. Guess why.

Most people I talk to ingame feels there are nice aspect to DQ, (mostly the new champ select, which ironicly is a separate component and not really DQ) and shitty ones, just like I do.

Competitively DQ is garbage, me personally as a gold player, have found that I'm more or less forced to premake to win consistently, because gold is utterly flooded with boosted low silver/bronzers who do not belong here (variance), premaking mitigates the chance of getting one of them on the team while giving the benefit of allowing premades to communicate better.

From a competitive perspective that is detrimental, in soccer you do not give a one sized ball to one team, and another sized ball to the other, you do not have one team playing in tapping shoes while the other plays in proper soccer shoes. It wouldn't be competitive as one team is playing with a handicap and the other isn't. Competitiveness stems from both teams playing on the same terms, DQ utterly breaks that standard. That's the reason many people don't consider it to be anything more than glorified normals, that includes me.

Why is it so bad that we want a truely competitive mode to reflect our skills? Casuals like alreay have normals, blinds, aram, and different rotating modes that people like me couldn't give a damn about, why does everything have to be catered towards casuals?

I think that the issue of not being queued on equal footing is only a real one as long as the chance of a premade of given size being matched against a premade of the same size is not 100%, but I'm not sure how real of an issue this actually is. On the other hand, the issue of variance that you talk about (for example, not having "years to spend grinding") is akin to the one experienced by players in ELO Hell: that significant variance in the skill of players leads to one-sided games (which means you have less influence on the outcome and therefore can only climb slowly). I'm not sure if variance is really an issue in DQ; I'm not convinced it isn't an issue though.

Personally, I think the issue with DQ is the issue of voice chat communication. Premades tend to voice chat, but players queuing solo tend not to. RIOT doesn't support voice chat itself, but DQ is a system that rewards voice chat communication. You may feel that your skills aren't reflected in DQ, but that's not really true. It is more accurate to say that your level of communication with teammates has become a major factor in your ability to climb. In other words, premades might not be significantly affecting the variance in skill of teammates, but premades do insure more stable voice communication with teammates.

So if you are hardcore, then you should basically always be trying to be in voice communication with your teammates. Saying that you want to play the game, but not take on the responsibility of voice communicating with your team is basically a casual attitude. You are basically saying that you are too lazy to care. Saying that DQ doesn't reflect your skills is a facade if you are using it to justify not communicating with your team. Some players think hardcore means queuing up with "random strangers" and then not communicating with them during the game using voice chat. I disagree that this is what it means to be hardcore.

Loving downvotes because of an opinion that differs from yours. That alone exemplifies what's wrong with this community. I never down vote someone else's well communicated opinion

Idk, may be because of the biased poll, the "stop crying", the "dumb" complaining, the "whiny brats" and calling others toxic when you don't see the toxicity in yourself.

Biased? "Do you like dynamic queue?" How is that biased by me?

Read your own TS, what's well communicated about it? You're just raving on people for sharing their opinions and telling us to get with the plan or gtfo.

You're right. I posted that after getting tilted for seeing three more posts about it today. There was nothing well written or well intentioned about my post.

Ya, you're right. I read my original post again and there was nothing constructive or well articulated about it. I'll post another one another day after everyone had said what they want to say here.

At first I thought people were overexaggerating.

Then I realized that they weren't kidding, after playing a dozen games with just ONE premade, and shit is already going downhill.

As long as DynamicQ is not changing, people will continue to complain until something worse than that shows up. Yes, I do agree with them to some extent, but making a thread saying the same thing doesn't really do anything other than farming for upvotes.

FiddlesOnTheRoof1 votes

I do think that the best way to make change happen is by having your voice heard. But the main things I see complained about is solos getting matched against pre makes, which simply does not happen as often as people claim it does.

FiddlesOnTheRoof1 votes

Although I will admit, I don't see why they can't restrict DQ to 2s and 3s, and reintroduce exclusively solo q. Seems there's enough players for both if they did it that way. At least for the 98% of players who aren't masters/challenger.

Erockandroll1 votes

The last update on SoloQ was only 3 weeks ago, Where a patch cycle usually lasts two weeks. (And I'm pretty sure a new Q structure takes more than a a single cycle.) Chances are, Riot really has nothing to really report on the matter. While they try to figure out the road blocks that hold it back.

I would give it maybe another 3 weeks before questioning Riot's radio silence. By that point, I would be concerned that they abandoned the project.

Getting duo's was already bad, and now things are worse. Care to elaborate why exactly people are not allowed to whine about shіtty and imbalanced matchmaking?

On the contrary, it's easier to climb / boost now than ever since you can abuse the system via stacking.

Yes yes, we know that scrubs like you love to get carried.

FiddlesOnTheRoof1 votes

Haha. I await your data to back that statement up. How is it "getting carried" when you're against another pre made? Ranked is significantly more challenging now that communication is so much more prevalent.

Not every premade is equal. Who knows, maybe you people are using VOIP and had a Ranked 5 team at some point... and then you are against people who have met while playing the game, who are not in VOIP nor do they know each other. You would have a clear advantage in that scenario.

Not to mention, you are not always against another premade or even the same sized premade.

{quoted}

Ranked is significantly more challenging now that communication is so much more prevalent.

And you would be correct.

However that's also the problem, since the premade that has the better communication also has the advantage ... which then again is unfair when it comes to solo players who are not part of a premade.

FiddlesOnTheRoof1 votes

Ok. It makes more sense when you put it like that. But people got in voice comms in solo q all the time.

FiddlesOnTheRoof1 votes

Perhaps there's no prefect answer. Normals aren't fun, because no one takes it seriously. Teemo jungle and janna mid have happened to be in separate normal games recently. I like ranked much more, but really enjoy playing with friends. I want a competitive game for my 2-4 man pre made.
