Can we please see a Gnar nerf within this next season?

Knowing how long the balance team takes to nerf an item** (Ardent)**, I just cannot even think how long it will take to see a nerf on Gnar. He has Percantage HP damage, poke, a escape, attack speed and movement steroid, engage, and teamfight potentional all in one champion. Laning against him as any form of melee champion is damn near impossible because he just buys Frozen Mallot, then you're literally fucked because if he auto's you once, he'll just E a minion, Q then proc his Hyper and you legit can't run away from him. God forbid you would be able to farm under tower, because he'll just Q poke you out of lane, it's like I'm forced to play a ranged champion top lane and ruin the comp for the rest of my team or something.

Both of his forms are powerful, but conditionally so, and he has very little agency over when the shift occurs.

What do you mean he has little agency over when the shift occurs? He can E onto a minion to engage, stun you, and push you against a wall to stun you again.

That's not agency. He was going to shift regardless. Gnar E's into the minion to engage because not doing so means he will shift in the middle of the wave and get kited until he dies.

But he get's increased base AD and increased HP with 2 stuns, and still has his E to get away, not to mention his Q also slows. There's also the point where he's been poking you down the entire time he's been in mini form, so trying to engage on him when he's mega is suicide.

Meaningless if A) he can't land them or B) the enemy simply outranges him.

Only a fucking idiot would fight Mega-Gnar in a knock down, drag out, but there are NO downsides to punishing him if he can't pickup his boulder. And Mini is squishy enough to punish if he has to deal with the shared cooldowns of his ACTUALLY uncontrollable transformation.

I'm not saying Gnar's not strong-- he is, and probably always has been. I'll never play him for the reason I described.

I want you to try laning against Gnar as any melee champion in the game, tell me how you do.

Illaoi does fine against Gnar. I have no issues with Gnar in this matchup

Illaoi is more on the lines of "If I hit my E, I win lane". She hardly applies.

LitAF1 votes

She's melee how does that not apply? Is she not a melee top laner that could be picked into Gnar?? Kind of seems like you're really biased at this point.

Also Yasuo top is supposed to be a "counter" as well.

For one who plays Illaoi a lot, she hardly auto attacks. Illaoi is a champion who is forced to fight in specific locations, being where tentacles are. I can see why Gnar is a good matchup for her, because if he E's into her, she'll E, Ult, W then Q. In no where in her combo is she auto attacking, except for her W. She's not a champion that's known for auto attack's to poke the enemy down. She's known for Q'ing the minion wave while potentially hitting her opponent and forcing them out of lane that way. Same thing can apply to Ekko. He spams Q's on minion waves, while poking his opponent down, then proc's his passive.

Why would anyone play a melee champion in this game, knowing the incredible design bias that has existed for literal years at this point?

I can't tell if you're trolling.

You realize his niche is literally to punish wanna be carry melee tops....

Do maybe try playing something else into him. He has a super high skill cap for this game, a lot of room for him to be counter played, and late game falls off pretty hard.

So if you are having issues against a Gnar..its you and the champs you select.

If you're at 90% rage from passively farming and you're low hp and don't want to switch to melee you either just watch creeps die in front of you and have a disadvantage or you transform into melee and have a disadvantage

If you transformed early and your team needs an initiation you won't have the double jump to knock people around and he's easily kited and won't be tanky for another minute at least

Given the nature of League and how you have to farm constantly to stay even, refusing to auto or cast abilities is bleeding gold. You technically can control when you transform but most of the time you have to react based on where your rage is and decide whether its worth picking fights or not.

Its all mallet.

He looks awful on paper, with mobility, a speed boost, and a slow built into his kit (not to mention his item choices) but he is surprisingly manageable in lane. If they nerf him anywhere it would likely be on his mega form cc cooldowns, because his teamfighting is where he is truly strong.

They should just nerf his Jump cooldown, thats it, otherwise it's good. His jump should have way way way higher cooldown, no tank should ever be able to cover that distance, that quickly, so often. In mini, he has the range of a freaking Kha'Zix upgraded jump (tho kha is an assassin... not a tank) and has basically no cd. But in Tank this ability has the same problems... Its a fairly long escape, for a tank, that has an extremely low cooldown.

A normal get away combo with gnar:

  1. Jump away.
  2. Enemy dashes to Gnar.
  3. Stun enemy and Slow enemy.
  4. Run for about 1-2 second(s).
  5. Jump again.
  6. Repeat. Result: Your enemy will never catch u unless they have similar cooldown leaps or longer and better mobility abilities. And those champions are very very very few. This results in such a fucked tank. A tank, IMO, shouldn't have the dmg of an adc, the tankyness of... well a tank, and the escapes/mobility like an assassin, whilsts still having massive amounts of CC with low cooldowns....
