Some things you should know about Gnar [Be ahead of the crowd!]
#Kit nuances and tricks
-
Mini Gnar's Q (Boomerang) only damages each enemy once, however it deals damage going forward and backwards, so use this to your advantage if you missed.
-
Gnar gets a burst of health entering Mega Gnar mode, use it especially when you are about to die for clutch health. The fastest way to do this is to use your ultimate Gnar!
-
Mega Gnar's bonus ad is applied to his base AD, so the effectiveness of sheen items is increased for tons of damage

-
You cannot hop on wards, but you can go over walls (even with Mega Gnar's jump, though you have to be close to the wall)
-
You can collect your boomerang mid-Hop, use it on an enemy then jump on them to get the boomerang back as well as positioning yourself favorably for the kill.
-
During Mega Gnar transformation, if you transform using hop and it hits a unit, you double hop in Mega Gnar form. But only as the transformation move.
-
Mini-Gnar and Mega Gnar's cooldowns are shared, the only ones that aren't are the W, remember this as you use abilities in either form.
-
You can collect left-over boulders from Mega Gnar as Mini Gnar and reduce the cooldown of your boomerang.
-
You can actually poke from farther away by throwing your boomerang backwards, and not catching it. However, this is extremely difficult to land (mlg Xx420yordlescopexX)
-
When you transform into Mega Gnar, you gain a large amount of health. However, you keep the same % of health that you had in Mega Gnar when you go back into Mini Gnar, building tanky can result in you restoring more health when you transform back.
-
Gnar can use abilities in mid-air in both forms, however he cannot autoattack. use this to your advantage for stuff like mid-air stuns and ultimates.
I have confirmed that Boomerang Toss and GNAR! can work midair, but nothing else does.
#Tips on using your rage correctly
-
Don't build up a lot of rage early game, you transform roughly at lvl 2 if you auto attack a lot. You will not be able to kill them (unless you and your jungler are mentally linked).
-
If you bring
you can coordinate your Mega Gnar transformations for devastating ganks. -
The best times to Mega Gnar cheese are lvls 3, 5, and 6, with lvl 6 being especially powerful. Keep in mind cooldowns are shared between forms.
-
When in Mini Gnar form with no rage, stay as far away from enemy champions as possible (unless you are ridiculously fed). **You will die **due to lack of damage.
-
If you are adc Gnar, you will want to avoid autoattacking unless necessary, if they engage just when you transform back into Mini Gnar you will probably lose that teamfight.
#Build tips
CDR and attack speed are both equally important on Gnar, so here are some items you'll want to pick up.
< Not a single stat you don't want
< Tons of damage, explained earlier
< You pick these up to round off your CDR from runes and masteries and Ghostblade/BC
< Expensive, but worth it if you're fed
< Amazing active, great source of AS, also has much needed lifesteal
< Mostly optional, pair this Trinity Force (spellblade proc is physical damage :D) over Black cleaver
Getting a mixture of these items will ensure you will have good penetration, AS, and CDR. This is if you are going full Glass Cannon however, which is usually when you are going ADC Gnar (or insanely fed)
#Top and Mid Gnar are gonna need some tanky items like these:
< Nice active, not bad stats, but the nerfs hurt :(
< So, why this over
? Both are great buys, but I prefer you not blowing up instantly, which is the whole point of buying defensive items anyway.
< If you absolutely hate Banshees, then pick this up.
< This is a bit more of a risky pickup, but if are pretty much the initiator then go for it.
, Frozen Hammer
and Mercurial Scimitar
would be more useful for him, sacrificing the advantage of Trinity Force for some tankyness.
