I took a break from League to play Battlerite instead, and I realized...

"Wow, League is really not fun."

In Battlerite, it's just all out teamfighting, a test of player skill. The only objective is the orb that gives you increased health. It's also 2v2 or 3v3 instead of 5v5. But with Battlerite, the games are a lot shorter. Battlerite is a MOBA as well, with champions that have abilities.

But the main difference, in my opinion is

Every

champion

is

meta.

If you pick Iva (my main), nobody flames you for picking somebody weak. There are no weak champions, and no OP champions. There's also no OP items to abuse (cough cough Ardent Censer). There's also nothing point and click, even your auto attacks are skillshots. The whole game is about raw player skill. There isn't any snowballing either. If the enemy team wins 2 rounds, you can still come back from that. Practically the only thing that resembles items in Battlerite is the custom loadouts you can have for every character, which buff their abilities in some way.

Compare that to League.

There's a select few champions that are really "viable," that have to build a select few meta items, or get stomped. The whole game is practically decided in champ select; whoever gets the more overpowered champion wins lane, and probably the game.

Honestly, Riot just needs to start nerfing things quicker. We've seen that they're capable of quick nerfs (support item nerfs, Overheal nerfs, Evelynn nerfs, Gangplank nerfs), but when it's something really important that needs to get nerfed (Ardent Censer again), they're nowhere to be seen. If a champion in League is garbage (Wukong, Mordekaiser), they won't buff them for years, unless it's one of the huge, every champion buffs, like the base stat changes for the Rune rework, and the spells drawing minion agro. In Wukong's case, they fucking nerfed him in 8.3. The last Wukong-specific buff that he got was in 5.22. For Mordekaiser, it was 6.16, which you can barely even call a buff. Riot has a very obvious bias about certain champions.

So at the very least, I'm not going to be playing League as much anymore, until they start nerfing things. Battlerite is just a much more appealing game to me right now.

Aren't there only 25 champions in Battlerite? Isn't there about that many meta champions in LoL?

Yes, but you can play every single champion in battlerite and be able to be useful. In League, about half of the champs are useless/get outclassed.

While this is true, there is a point here. Why should such a huge amount of the LoL champs be handicapping your team to play them? Past 2 Seasons I felt like I could play almost any champ and at least hold my own. This season has really crapped on a lot of champs. Too be honest the new rune system has been what did it.

Battlerite and League are two vastly different games. While they are both technically MOBAs, they should not be compared as such. I would say that Stunlock does a better job at balancing than Riot does. In Riot's defense however, there is far more to balancing league. League should not be seen as a game where every champion is meant to be as strong as one another. There will never be a time where each champion is as good as every other and that's fine. The idea of balancing league is that each champion should neither be too over-tuned or too under-tuned. Not that every champion needs a 50% win rate.

Not every champion in Battlerite is as balanced as you've said, and there is definitely meta in the game. While there may be no snowballing in Battlerite there is 100% rock, paper, scissors match-ups.

I also agree that Riot can take too long to nerf things but that aside your comparison of the two games seems pretty biased towards Battlerite and unfair towards League.

The thing is, with some of those champions if they get a small buff it makes a HUGE impact. Mordekaiser already can 1v2 fairly easy if they know what they are doing. This gets him ganked hard early on due to his lack of mobility and to set him back enough so that he does not 1v2 as easily.

They do quick nerfs or quick buffs and it often times ends up breaking the champion or item. The quick buffs and nerfs are for ACTUAL game breaking things, normally bug fixes, but for a while they let it slide for example having Karma shield minions and give ardent buff too. Then they fixed it after seeing just how much of an impact it had. They quickly fixed Zz'Rot Portal blocking minions from exiting the base. Stuff like that.

there are op/overloaded/obnoxious champions in battlerite for sure. croak freya shifu thorn for melee jade jumong destiny for ranged support is probably the most balanced since poloma was nerfed otherwise it was just poloma every single game it doesn't mean you autowin with these things (except pearl in 2v2) but they do way more then say a rook i don't know how much battlerite you have played but its no better balanced then league
