These Sightstone Changes are Troubling

As a support main since season 2, I'm incredibly confused by what logic Riot is using when evaluating the challenges that supports face and the systemic problems with vision overall.

Some detailed insight into the reasoning behind these changes would be dearly appreciated.

From what I can tell, here's the (un)intended side effects of this new change.

  1. Aggressive itemization. Supports that do a lot of damage will be much stronger. Zyra, Brand, and other bully supports will take precedence in lane. You've gifted them a much earlier power spike which will translate into a lot of snowball heavy games lacking clear counterplay.

  2. Severely weakened traditional supports. Braum, Taric, Alistar, Thresh, Janna, etc, all of the supports which make their bread being the silent heroes will be diminished. Removing Face of the Mountain and the passive shield from Targons is an absolutely enormous nerf for tank supports. And removing Ruby Sightstone is a very significant nerf to Mikael's, Locket, and Redemption.

This is going to be a landscape change to the role, and it does nothing to address the problem of pink ward slot or vision globally. Vision is powerful in this game, but it's not something that feels rewarding. It's a chore. It grants little gold and experience as compared to its value, and the vision score algorithm itself is binary since it heavily favors "my team is already winning."

Why would you drop such a bomb on the role? My guess is that during your discussions the team couldn't come up with a good way to handle the cross-pollination that keeps cropping up with other lanes grabbing support items.

I've said this before, why not, then, just bind the items to the role? You effectively do this for junglers with smite. There are many, many ways you could do this for supports. For 1) you know our role before the game even starts.

It's been quite a few years now of intermittent high and low points for this role. Please help us understand what you're thinking, and if you have a vision for a brighter tomorrow.

1 If they bind is to the champ select role what happens if someone trades for sup then that team is severely screwed. 2 Bind to summs then any off meta thing that doesnt include exhaust gets screwed. 3 Making it a mastery doesnt help as suddenly all supps are forced into one mastery.(tbh a support tree might be cool though so im not set that this is a bad idea) 4 make non support sightstone and leave the old sight stone how it was. Not a bad idea theres already a jg one now we just need an ap/ad/tank sightstone. 5 theyve already talked about bringing back twin shadows in the ap update so we know were getting that one. Im sure riot could make a fotm/toa item
