What the hell is the point of reworking a champion?

In some cases, the champ Riot Games reworks can be a champ with a fairly simple kit that has a relatively good skill floor and a high skill ceiling. In other cases, the champ they rework has a busted-ass kit that just seems op on release or gets a few buffs to get going but ends up with Riot having to just straight up neuter the champ and leave em in a not so good place. I dont hate reworks, but I damn well dont like unsuccessful ones.

Modernization, and pretty much nothing more.

Reworks are intended with the goal of making kits healthier long term, but sad to say none of them achieve that. Closest being maybe Warwick

I guess for modernization standards, its harder to argue "modernization" as failing on each concept since typically they choose outdated designs to begin with, hence they keep doing them even if the gameplay is an utter failure. All we can do is hope riot is more careful about the gameplay aspect in the future. Ezreal idk if he's considered a VGU, but he's a prime example of keeping what works while fixing what didn't and not hurting game health at all while staying true to the original design... then you look at akali and she goes from one balance mess to a somebody needs fired mess.

Ryze will be fine by his 20th rework.
