Now, this is in no way saying Maokai is op. But he got fed in a game I just played about 5-0, but I got kinda fed too I went 6-1. But as soon as teamfights broke out, he would target me w to me, q, then ult and I was chain cced for so long and he did around 1000 damage in that time and a couple aas later he killed me, what am I supposed to do? You're playing Xayah mao shouldn't even be a problem for you considering you can featherstorm out of both his ult and his W.
It's okay, Maokai IS broken.
It's why he's permabanned at my elo.
He's too strong right now to be fair.
Anyways, the counterplay is to stay out of range of his w. I think your aa range is longer than his w. Allies can peel him for you as well.
Your disadvantage was that even though you both had kills, he had solo xp. His lead was more relevant / powerful at that point of the game. You won't outscale him until late game.
