are afks, feeders etc actually smurfs that freeze the account level to keep boosting a friend?

wat title says I read somewhere that smurf accounts have their mmr's changed when discovered as being a smurf, in order to reveal their true level, and make for balanced matchmaking, but why aren't they simply punishing people for smurfing? Is it condoned because more (active) accounts means more moneh?

EDIT: confirmed, we had this guy that literally said in chat they're tanking their elo, they went zed top and fed all game; downvote this all u want

High elo be like, 'Q_Q my que times, time to go make the ranking system irrelevant by bringing my skill into the lowest elo possible'

lol, there aren't smurfs in 100% of anyone's games. You might run into a smurf once every 20-30 games, this shouldn't be the sole reason you aren't climbing..

If encountering a smurf in 5% of your games or less makes it so you can't climb then you are full of it.. Theres even a chance you'll get the smurf on your team and have a free win.

But honestly,, people in bronze/silver shouldn't be crying about smurfs. It is impossible to get a smurf into bronze if you are a high elo player and just as hard to keep the account in silver, if you happen to place that low, for more than a few games. Usually within a week of starting a fresh account I'm in at least low to mid plat.

I'd love to see a source for this. I've never seen a smurf have their MMR changed to reflect their actual skill level and I smurf myself and have tons of buddies that smurf in order to avoid long queue times.

Well I just remember reading it on these boards, but I can't find it to link it here... Explain how a smurf account reduces queue time, unless you mean avoiding a dodge penalty? in which case u void it by changing accounts, still not ok, because you did not learn your lesson, you give 2 craps about the system and you will dodge for whatever reason again and again on other people's expense.

Explain how a smurf account reduces queue time, unless you mean avoiding a dodge penalty? On my main account if I want to play late at night I could sometimes wait 10+ minutes to find a game. By going on my smurf I only have to wait 3-4 minutes. Has nothing to do with dodging.

And before you say "Well you can play normals." I hate playing normals. I don't feel like the games are ever as balanced as ranked. I'm not going to play a game mode I don't enjoy so I go on my smurf and play ranked to cut out queue times. This is only a temporary fix though, as my smurf is now at Plat 1 and the queue times are starting to get closer to the 10 minute mark late at night, which means after I get it into D5 I'll start yet another smurf.

That's not an explanation, it's only what you observed, or claim to have observed, and use it as an excuse. Why do you have a longer q time for an older acc, maybe you dodged several times? I doubt its cus of a higher ranking on the original account. I'm in bronze and i still wait a whole lot, I even made a thread today if any1 else experienced issues, because the whole q dodging and remakes will increase the q time up to an hr for normals.

You are in bronze, so you don't know.

I am in Diamond 4 on my main account. Top .6% and place # 10,243 according to NA.OP.GG. At my skill level there aren't that many players, so yes the queue times are longer becaus there are less people to play against. Has NOTHING TO DO WITH DODGING.

You, in comparison, are in the top 92%, AKA the bottom 8% and in place # 1,586,749. You have lots and lots of people at your skill level to play with, so to you a long queue time is 1 minute at most.

But rest assured. As a bronze 4 player you surely are not playing vs smurfs. It would take some serious feeding to get an account that low to smurf on.

http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/LLTBaVHA-ur-lower-rank-so-everything-you-say-is-invalid Right, I don't know, I wonder why that thread is so upvoted.

Except I just said my q time went up to an hour just today, and it's never 1 minute at most hahaha ur joking, right? It always SAYS 3.x but goes up to 5 or 6 even for bronze 4, and that's just for the first found match, if you can believe that cus I sure can't. And rest assured I can tell when someone is carrying a 1v9, and they don't have to be bronze 4 to be a smurf, remember the matchmaking system? I can be placed with silvers, too. And I know someone who's gold and got at least 3 accounts from silver to gold and is now in promos for plat... That low is not so low, is it?

That thread has nothing to do with this thread. I'm not telling you to ward more, I'm telling you in high elo queue times get ridiculous so people make smurf accounts.

http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=adebug That is your na.op.gg. Tell me which game has you with silvers. All I see is you with other bronze 5s and 4s.

Just because someone is carrying a game it doesn't mean they are a smurf. In my Diamond 4 games I sometimes pretty much 1v9, that doesn't mean I'm smurfing, it just means I got fed.

Ok so you know someone who is gold and has 3 accounts from silver to gold? What does that have to do with anything? Are you saying he is gold and has smurfs in silver? Guess what, he isn't impacting the game much, a Gold in Silver isn't going to be devestating. But now you are saying he has an account in promos for plat and telling me that isn't low? Well, actually I do consider that low elo, but I don't even know why you threw that in there other than to sound incoherent.

i was replying to that, cus u went off track with that, ur quite funny, starting an offtopic, then calling me incoherent :) moving on:

that thread is called 'ur-lower-rank-so-everything-you-say-is-invalid', you really don't find it ironic to say something like 'You are in bronze, so you don't know'? I do watch other people stream and play this game and I'm telling you I have crazy q times too for the lowest ranking ever (i just spent over 14 minutes in q for my first game today; EDIT: nv mind, it was a remake, back to Q!). to use that as an excuse to smurf just don't fly with me.

i stopped checking lolnexus etc for every game because it was putting me in a bad mood since the start of the game, seeing my mmr as bronze 2, playing against silvers, when i was down in bronze 5. if that leveld in the last games, hooray for me. that still doesn't change the ranked experience that makes me want to uninstall when someone without a keystone is on my team.

Yea, you are in bronze, so you wouldn't know - BECAUSE YOU'VE NEVER BEEN IN DIAMOND. Your input about queue times in DIAMOND are INVALID because you have NEVER BEEN THERE. This is why I say that your input doesn't matter. That thread you pointed out is about GAMEPLAY. About higher elo players telling lower elo players to ward. Go read it again.

Queue times in DIAMOND are a lot worst than queue times in BRONZE. I don't care if you wanna cry about having a long queue time, you are completely full of it. There is a reason your thread just gets down votes, you are talking out of your ass. This is my last post to you because you are too stupid to try to get through to. Don't post threads asking questions if you are just going to act like a little kid when you get the answer.

See here is the difference between the 2 of us: I have played at your elo, you have not played at mine. I didn't just install League and start in Diamond, I grinded my way there after being at around 400 MMR within the first 50 games of my first season ( Season 2). Your input about my input is pointless since you never have, and probably never will, actually play at my level.

This is a very, very condescending comment man. Here we have another professional player that started in challenger teir and did not have to work his way up in the rankings or remember what it was like to get his ass handed to him by other smurfs when he was a lower level/rank....damn the pros have it easy....

Except I didn't start in diamond, I started just like everyone else. I had smurfs in my game on the enemy team just as much as all of you do. Did it stop me from climbing? No, because a smurf every 20-100 games isn't going to actually impact someone's ability to climb. If you are better than the elo you are playing in then the games will be so easy that losses mean nothing because then the next few games will be even that much easier. If you win a game, lose a game to a smurf, then lose another game when the enemy team didn't have a smurf then obviously you are at your skill level.

Has it ever been considered that queue times at higher ranks are long because the players at those ranks keep abandoning those accounts for smurf accounts in order to avoid long queue time, thus feeding the reason why queue times at high ranks are long?

No, that isn't the reason at all. It is really logical to anyone that is able to apply common sense actually. There are not a lot of players that have made it to high elo which means there are less people available to be matched against.

For example, you are bronze 2. Out of all of the players in ranked there are 6.7% at that exact elo and 29% of all of ranked palyers are in Bronze. Source: http://www.leagueofgraphs.com/rankings/rank-distribution

You are position 1,434,539 (83% of top). I really don't care for the math, so lets say there are 1.75 million players. Being at 6.7%, if you were ONLY MATCHED with other Bronze 2s, there would be 117,250 that the system could match you with. Since it can go up a division or down a division and still be at your MMR then that number is even higher, possibly 200k.

I am currently in position 11,762 (0.6773% of top). Only .3% of the ranked population is at that level. That means for a game of all Diamond 4s there would be only 5,250 people to choose from. If it pulled from ALL OF DIAMOND ( which it doesn't do ) then there would be 31,500 players to choose from, almost 1/4th of the amount you have. But that isn't how it works, in my D4 games I'll get maybe 1-2 D5 and maybe 1-2 D3, so theres maybe 7,000 players at that range, and guess what, not all are online at once. So theres about 1/17th of the population at that elo which means queue times can be 17x as long as yours.

If you are going to respond to my comments please put in some effort to prove your point and not just throw in "HERP DERP" assumptions.

You smurf in ranked games? If so, you're the prime reason high elo players don't get to use the default response of, 'You're in the elo you deserve.'

I really couldn't give a shit about your que times, please cry me a river, you undermine ranked by smurfing in it

Yea, when leveling your account in normals this may be true, because your MMR will be a lot higher.

In ranked this is not true, it just goes based off your MMR like everyone else. I check lolnexus every single game and I don't seem to be getting that many smurfs in my games. When leveling the account I def. encountered a lot of other smurfs but that is because we all had really high MMR for our level.

hmm interesting. Well then ignore my comment, thought they set MMR higher for the smurfing group.

Well your MMR gets higher than your rank for sure when smurfing. Like when my account was G3 it had around P3 MMR. This wasn't because of smurfing this was because of my winrate at the time which made it so I would skip divisions and sometimes promo matches. Any time your MMR is higher than your current rank this happens, don't need to be smurfing for it to happen. It doesn't put you with other smurfs, it just puts you against people that your hidden MMR matches with.

Treeofwar1 votes

he is right that riot made a system where if you win more that they will try and match you with people what win like you to make smurfs fight other smurfs but thing is you cant 100% tell me whos a smurf and whos not a smurf just because someone is good at the game think about it league is not leaps and bounds different than dota so people who play dota with thousands of hours can come and do decently vs low levels and look like a smurf so you cant ban someone for being naturally good at the game.

I'm pretty sure no one will dismiss an account based on JUST that... in any game... They would/should check ip addresses for every login as well as monitor the stats on each of those ips, and not only.
