Jhin first impressions

So this is just a current feel on how Jhin feels after a few games, I'll likely get more thoughts on him as time goes on:

  1. His traps are abysmal. They're quick and easy to set down, but other than some decisively okay wave clear and gank protection, they help little to none. Why? Well, firstly, the delay on them is so long that as a 325 movement speed champion, you are perfectly capable of setting off the trap and walking through it without taking damage. I realize it's supposed to be grouped in with Jhin's W to guarantee the supposedly heavy damage the traps do, but here's point number 2:

  2. Jhin is slow in every way, shape, and form. I understand his character is supposed to be "methodical", but there is a definitive difference between "methodical" and "delayed as all fuck". His W has practically a second of windup, so even trying to hit an enemy in his E it's painfully easy to just step out of the way of this very, very thin skillshot while also avoiding the trap altogether at the same time. His reload speed is painfully slow as well to the point that I have shot off the final shot in a clip with a Poppy pinning an enemy to the wall and they were unstunned by the time I was ready to take another shot. This is incredibly delayed damage for an ADC and limits Jhin's choices in fights horrifically, meaning that the vast majority of the time you're running around like an idiot doing nothing as opposed to, you know, actually being useful. As a rule of thumb, I've started looking as fights as "you will only get 8 shots at most - use them wisely." And that's practically true - your four shots in your gun and four on your ult. Trying to get more has proven to be almost impossible in a fight because by the time you get your shit together it's over. Oh, and before I forget - his ult also travels pretty slow as well.

  3. Jhin has an identity crisis in terms of gameplay. Why? Because his kit heavily lends itself towards an assassin playstyle while trying to be balanced for ADC play - his passive fourth shot is an execute, doing 25% of missing health damage. His R is meant to pick off stragglers or catch people out for your team. His W and E are both for keeping enemies in place (in theory) while you try to build up your damage. The reason this is all clashing gameplay is because you can't have a one-shot jockey in bot-lane and have it be balanced, so Jhin's balanced out to be in the botlane as opposed to actually being useful - he can be very scary bot, where the harass is flying and people can stay for ages at low health. Flashing and 4th-hitting an enemy has happened on multiple occasions in games I was in. However, this translates very poorly to teamfights as there are a multitude of people there - you don't do as much damage as quickly as any other ADC and you don't pack the appropriate burst to do an assassin's job, so you're stuck in a limbo of uselessness.

  4. I like his Q. Really not much else to say on that - it's a clever thing that I can use to farm from afar by bouncing it off enemy champs if I'm having trouble or I can use it for some meaty harass in lane through my own wit and planning. It feels nice to hit people with this ability when you get the damage ramping.

So that's where he's sitting - I'd suggest attack speed to still factor at least a little bit into his reload speed so you're not sitting back 80% of the game trying to reload your shit, and maybe switch up that % missing health on his passive to something less limiting considering that would be something more attuned to killing somebody you could actually kill in 4 shots - which does not normally include tanks and bruisers, the reason you pick ADC's in the first place to counter.

He just plays VERY different from your usual AD carry.

It's like he's meant more for picks, rooting people with W and then going for the kill, so he actually suffers a bit when he is dove or has little control of the fight.

That's why I said he has an identity crisis - it's not that he plays different from the usual ADC so much as his style plays more like an assassin.

He feels... like Twisted Fate in what he's trying to do.

That's not fair: Twisted Fate has much lower cooldown's. Jhin basically blows his load and sits around for 6 seconds being relatively useless.
