New Players Will Never Know About This Old Gem

it seems like new players don't get it, which I understand, when veterans are skeptical of riot's intentions pretty much with anything.

Riot's Dynamic Queue was so bad, so awful, that people were quitting en mass. They specifically said, after removing solo queue without warning, that solo queue was coming back. Then they released this video, in which they say "solo queue is never coming back, period." and fast forward to literally the end of the season, the point at which they probably noticed they were losing money and then begged people to come back.

When they were called out for making ranked less competitive, they said, competitive integrity was a "trade-off" (for what?) and that they intended to change the meaning of ranked as far as how competitive it was.

For those who don't give a shit about ranked, this won't mean anything to you, but the ranked base had nothing at that point. I know riot backtracked but it was only because they were forced to. they will do whatever they please unless they think they will lose money.

It was the absolute most infuriating time of League. The constant "oh we're bringing back solo que, just wait a couple of weeks" and the weeks without any communication afterwards, all while having to play vs 5 man premades as a solo player in ranked. It was a fucking nightmare.

Nothing about their attitude has changed since then.

You can't put it without the frost prime video on it, was great at that time.

Also how disgustingly horrific Riot's defense was. Riot's Lyte to be exact, man that guy was such a douche.

New players won't remember the Reginald Wukong/Gorilla cosplay memes

My main issue with the development team is when they implement an update that the community is against (Or never asked for to begin with) and then basically say We know what you want and even if the general consensus is the update was a mistake to bad till next season.

Seems like this Is happening more and more, and every season they have to fight to get new players to make up for the ones they lost from ignoring the current community. They released not 1... but 5 League of Legends advertisements to sign up the same day they announced fixing matchmaking.

Games just morphing into more of a mess as they scramble to fix the fixes...

I like how the community was pissed off then about the over enforcement of teamwork in the game. And riot was like 'ok we will scrap the obvious part (dynamic que)' and TWO YEARS later riot is finally looking at scaling the enforced teamwork back so people can solo carry again.

Dynamic Queue itself was a misguided, forced implementation of what Riot really wanted. But it has lead to Flex Queue (which some people like, and some people don't bother with), and eventually to Clash (which a lot of people are pretty hyped for). The idea behind Dynamic Queue (i.e. allowing for a competitive premade experience) was not flawed, and a lot of people liked the direction. But almost no one was willing to sacrifice the Solo Queue experience/integrity for it.

So yeah, big mistake in execution, but with good intentions at heart. It's just a little sad it took Riot a year to get through that "learning experience".

But I still think players blow the whole thing out of proportion. It was undeniable flawed, but let's be honest... It really didn't affect anyone below Gold. And it was truly problematic only if you were in D1 or above (which is why Master/Challenger had restrictions added well before the full return of Solo Queue). People just overreacted to the principle of having to play against/with boosted premades, even if it only "ruined" 10% of their games in reality. And I guarantee it had a negligible effect on solo players' ranks (unless they let it tilt them too much).

A lot of people just latched on to it as another excuse for why they were losing games. But like all the excuses that existed before and after dynamic queue, it really didn't matter in comparison to your own skill and consistency.

Dynamic queue was only a mistake in principle and in a couple of edge cases. But practically speaking, most players were hardly affected, unless they were unlucky and matched with a Toxic 4-Man Premade. And those were really quite rare.

Sincerely, A salty Dynamic Queue apologist

This is one of the examples I use every time someone tells me to believe or trust Riot.

bubby wtf are you talking about. Dynamic queue was like 2 seasons ago. "veterans" he says. by your standards even i'm a damn league veteran.

Dynamic Queue is good because it decreased toxicity -Riot The Majority of the community likes the new queue.(8 minute queues in Flex lul)

Look, I understand what happened back then. I was around, but I wasn't in the ranked scene and still am not, but I get what was happening.

However, I think to say that Riot only cares about money is far from the truth.

This game would not have survived without the player base and the company caring equally about the game. I remember notable players right now looking back on the early days of league talking about barely scraping by but that the community and their love for the game made it worth it.

The fact that they are larger than like 20 people and have to think like an actual company with massive expenses, revenue, and profit is something you can't fault them for. They need to be thinking like a business when they act or else the game that we all love will die. I can't defend their decisions, but of course they are going to eventually reverse any decision that makes them lose out on money. THAT'S WHAT BUSINESS IS!!!!!!!!!

I can't really speak for myself, because I play differently than most people without a specific main or main role and just playing draft, but I can say that they do care. And they have care every step of the way.

"Riot's Dynamic Queue was so bad, so awful, that people were quitting en mass."

Evidence of this?
