Ask Riot: Autofill in Ranked - League of Legends

To change the "complain, complain, blah, blah, complain" feeling, here is something I hope others feel the same about.

To quote RIOT here- ahem, : "not every position is equally popular, so we have to get people to fill in for those positions to make sure matches happen in a reasonable amount of time. Without autofill, finding matches would not only take longer, but they’d end up involving a broader skill range, as we stretch our search outward to find the 10th player we need." ... "While we probably can’t ever fully do away with autofill, we are looking to make changes to improve upon the system."

Now, I don't know about you guys but I'm willing to wait and have a much longer queue time to get my position in ranked games. Getting what I need feels like to me, that is the improvement everyone wants. After all, I'm playing that role or position because I wish to prove my worth with what I know as well as the enjoyment I get out of that role comparatively. Auto fill makes it harder for your "team" and seeing how RIOT is trying to also implement a system where both teams get an auto filler, it wouldn't really fix the issue that a lot of people would already rather not deal with.

How much longer are you willing to wait, and how much are you willing to have the skill range expanded?

Would you wait 20 minutes and end up with a bronze jungle in your gold game just to eliminate autofill? Will that make a better experience for you...especially if the other team gets a higher ranked jungle?

If we ignore the fact that rank is represantation of your skill ingame, not in one role, not with one champ. Without autofill, skill disparancy would widen with growth of que time, which is imo something, no one wants.

Riot is on good way with autofill parity. What next step should be imo, is to try to pair autofills into same roles, so filled jngler vs filled jng etc.

While you and I would happily wait ~2 more minutes for a better role distribution, the issue would escalate quickly as you check higher rankings, where people already complain about ~30 min queues, not to mention the occasional dodges that would result in extended timers. Any small change for us would result in a huge change for the others.

Ok... how much longer would you be willing to wait? They wouldn't have autofill be a thing if all it would do is make games be 2 mins faster. It'll be something that's 5 at the bare minimum and it's something that would get longer and longer the higher up in the ladder you get since there would be less players in those portions of the ladder which means less people playing certain roles. This is also assuming people just don't mind waiting the extra time but what about those that do mind? They'll stop playing. You know what that will cause? Queue times to increase further. The more queue times increase the more people will just not be willing to wait longer which will end up with them quitting which in turns leads to further queue time increases. This cycle repeats until everyone has insane queue times and the mode is deemed a failure. You want proof of this? Look at teambuilder. This is exactly what happened there.

YOU might be ok with waiting a bit longer but a lot of people more than likely aren't. If those people don't wait then YOUR wait times will be even longer since those other players aren't playing the roles that are needed to get games going. It's not about what YOU want.

EVERYBODY (or nearly everybody) would be willing to wait for better matches. Riot does not WANT the players to wait. Riot wants players to spend as little time in queue, and as much time in actual matches, as possible.

The goal is queue time of 3m. Yet often we see that a queue is only a few seconds, and yet players are autofilled, or MMR is otherwise compromised. Riot has their own goals.
