How to build Gangplank now that Triforce isn't his core

Hey there, Onwodori here.

REAL FAST because I'm doing an essay. How do all you GP players build GP now? I tried out Triforce on him post patch 6.11 and it just feels awful. He does not in any way need the attack speed and without the crit it just isn't worth spending your first 3k gold on.

For me, I am finding that this works as a great core, in this order: item 3077 item 3057 item 1001

This gives him an easier time prepping minions to be Q + E - ed for maximum gold gained and sustains you well in lane. You also get a surprising amount of bullying and fighting ability when normally you need to farm for 30 minutes for a stupidly expensive build.

Final builds are looking like this for me, very bruiser-y (as I sorta predicted) : item 3074 item 3025 item 3111 item 3053 OR item 3156 item 3065 item 3742

Not always like this, but the first three are quite consistent. He's returned to 'split pushing, wave clearing, skirmishing' rather than 'wave clearing and perhaps one shotting entire teams' And honestly, I'm enjoying this far more. I don't feel shoe-horned into building nothing but damage and crit and having to farm the entire game.

Let me know what you all have found.

"Trinity Force isn't core anymore because it doesn't give crit."

proceeds to make a Gangplank build with no crit in it anyway

You go on to mention split-pushing with him now, and that's EXACTLY what attack speed is good for. Trinity Force is great for splitting with Gangplank.

Auto a turret for Trial by Fire damage, toss down a keg to activate Spellblade, attack turret again, attack the keg once Spellblade is off cooldown to reset Trial by Fire and apply it to the turret again. Repeat.

Trinity alone still adds more damage to Parrrley than any other AD item in the game.

Well right. I don't like going with any crit at all by this point because including a tri force AND getting a reliable amount of crit (I stopped at 70 crit usually because the odds that I'd get the crit was good enough) is now just silly. You'd need a build like this which is unreasonable: item 3078 item 3031 item 3508 item 3087 item 3009

Rather extra on hit effects make up for it I've found. Sure you can still buy Triforce, but I imagine the build would look more like this:

item 3074 item 3078 item 3053 item 1001 You really want to get Triforce over Iceborn only if you have Steraks in your forseeable build, at least I feel, because the base attack increase makes it worth it then over the AOE slow and damage as well as the armor and vastly lower price of IBG.

I have also noticed item 3077 also procs off of Q so you get more silver serpents. You also get more SS/kill when you Q jg monsters. [slayer-jinx-catface]

I think I built Death's Dance and Swiftness over Maw of Malmortius and Spirit Visage.

....Which reminds me, why build Steraks and Maw? Weren't the passives changed to more or less be mutually exclusive?

Oh I had completely forgotten about that! Thank you for the reminder.

Hey, just goes to show how badly you needed both of them if you didn't notice :P

Musta been a good game.

It was more 'I forgot this was in the patch notes' kinda thing ^_^; Yeah I was laning against a Teemo so I built a hexdrinker first item then later wanted an extra bit of surviability at low life so got Steraks too.

Haha, whoops.

Critplank isn't dead.

item 3031 item 3046 item 3812 item 3742 item 3065 item 1001. Boots I'd normally go lucidity, but you can go tabi if you need to be tanky, and replace DMP with iceborn if you NEEEEED cooldown reduction.

To be fair, that's very glass cannon, and you lack mana or spellblade. You can certainly go critplank, but is it the same as before?

Remlap12231 votes

Of course not. Triforce was a key item on him. However, don't be deceived by the lack of defensive items, Phantom Dancer and Death's Dance more than pull their weight. If you're that worried about mana and spellblade, you go iceborn instead of DMP, but corrupting potion takes care of that, IMO.

If you're not sold on critplank, you can go tanklplank instead. item 3748 item 3065 item 3083 item 3190 item 3025 item 3047

Oh Tank Plank is definitely strong -- I loved it back in the day. Only, I feel like a large AD pool is very strong on GP currently, namely to make full use of his true damage passive. Surviving to use it several times on a single target whilst still having the AD to make it hurt is wildly powerful in one on ones. And I like to go Warlords Bloodlust for my mastery, as it helps him sustain with impudence in lane while you farm up to nab a Tiamat and a Sheen (I start with three pots and a long sword for this) But after those two items, I have no opposition going very tanky if the game requires I do so.

You really want to be an asshole? Take undying grasp. It procs off his Q. That's why DMP is insane on him. You thought Poopy was scary with that, try a hyperscaling ability that has 50% more range. Put UG keystone mastery and watch your opponents health bar disappear.

Man, between metagolem MF and tankplank, there's a bunch of champion builds I need to catch up on.

Uhm but this forces you into poking the opponent with Q. That and they nerfed it, so it's not as strong as it once was. Still good, but for someone with early limited mana and someone who benefits from farming hard the first 10 minutes, Warlord's Bloodlust is better from what I have found.

I predict there's going to be 2 builds.

  1. Crit GP for mid. item 3031 item 3508 item 3087 core. It's not as good as the Triforce build but it's really bursty and keeps his barrels as the core.

  2. Bruiser GP for top. item 3078item 3022 item 3065 item 3142 item 3742 item 3047 imo. It makes him really tanky and hard to kill, his barrels still do decent damage, his passive auto and Q do decent damage, and he can't be escaped.
